Just watched Gracie Gold at US Championships skate to East of Eden and definitely saw elements inspired by Michelle so I had to come and watch this beautiful program.
They Don't Make Them Like The One The ONLY Michelle Kwan!!! Her Grace, Her Skill, Her Attention To Details, Her Jumps, Her Signature Spiral, Can't and Will Never Be Duplicated... Michelle Endured Prejudice In Most Catagories, Throughout Her Long and Illustrious Career... None Of Those "one-hit wonders, Tara, Sarah" Could Ever Hold A Candle To Michelle... I Am Now 60 and I Can Still Vividly Remember How Several Olympic Gold Medals Were Wrongfully Awarded To A Less Skillful Skater... But No Matter, #MichelleKwan4everQueenOfTheICE
I find it hard to think of Tara as a one hit wonder. She was an extremely talented skater who simply did not stick around because she moved on to other things after winning all the major events including the Nagano Olympics. But Michelle had a grace and style that none I have seen over the years could match. Her spirals are the stuff dreams are made of. She was truly unique.
Exactamundo, nailed it. Not just at the Olympics but at worlds too. Michelle should have had 7 World titles if the judging was fair dinkum and objective .
Her jumps always so smooth! Beautiful! Most of us will never know what it's like to excel at something ... Michelle accomplished excellence in her career and made America proud.

I am surrounded by genius writers , people who have done Harvard, who have a high medical education, or who have prepared PhD in prestigious universities! we know what it means to elevate excellence to the rank of art! much more than doing spins or jumps on ice!
I wonder if the people in the audience saw the irony in an Asian girl in Asia representing the Western World. 20 years later Michelle Kwan remains by and far my favorite skater. :)
The judges that came from other countries always give Michelle low score. This people are so jealous of her. Because they were NOT GOOD SKATER like her before. Hahahaha!!!!!
Is it just me or is Michelle kind of like "bloated" in this performance and in the US championships? If you watch her performance at the Worlds in Canada, when she wore the orange outfit, she really looked slimmed down there.
Nope, you're not alone. It was this season when she began this habit of taking things slow and looking out of shape at the beginning of the season and then be in insane shape in the latter portion for the Nats or Worlds or both (except for 2003 where she was pretty fit throughout the season). She said that the pain in her hip (which eventually led to an injury and a surgery) started after 2002, but I think this was when it really began as this was also the time she was pushing herself to do triple-triples to be able to compete with Irina; probably the reason why she took slow to get in shape for seasons in the latter part of her career. Unfortunately, they didn't notice it and nothing really came up in her medicals (probably because of the technological progress with diagnostic machines at the time as well), until she was already in severe pain and couldn't get on the ice anymore.
I wish the announcers would shut up, so we could just enjoy the music and the performance. Yack, yack, yack, shut up and enjoy the beauty and the music.

クワンが初めて世界女王になった大会のエキシビションのプログラムがこのエデンの東で、たしか13歳くらいで、ほんっとに、表現力が凄くて、毎朝その映像を見てから出かけるのが日課だったのを思い出しました。
あの時はオリンピックにまだ出られない年齢だったんどよね、たしか。
あの時オリンピックに出ていたら、金メダルとれたんじゃないかなぁ、ってずっと思ってます。

Believe it or not this was better than at the Nationals. Both her Lutz and Flip were huge here.
But the musical phrasing was slightly off here. Even so, the judges underscored her.
