It would be nice to get Watts or Malaki Starks or even Andrew Mukuba.
To me that safety spot where Stone is playing has got to be fixed. If Watts is ranked 4th best or even 6th best overall safety, if that's the guy to fix that position he is very much worth the 17th overall pick "for the Bengals." It's your best chance to stop the bleeding for 4 or possibly 5 years.
Many people are going to say D-Line is more important and we all know it starts in the trenches but here's the deal, we have young players that just finished their rookie year and others just their 2nd year completed. Some highly drafted and some mid to late rounds.
DE Myles Murphy 1st round 2 years exp.. Very little playing time offered to him but why ? From watching him you see he doesn't have the bend to be a great edge. He's got good length, strength and straight line speed and with his big body frame he has plenty room for adding weight to be a interior pass rusher. Imagine him running down QB's trying to pass outside the tackle box because it will be easier for him running from the inside to outside rather than one side to the other side. Get up in the 290 range and move inside is where his career should be.
DE Cedric Johnson 6th round 1 year exp.. Man, if there's a player on the D-Line I'm high on it's Cedric Johnson. He simply just needs the opportunity and I think when it's said and done he could be the biggest steal of the 2024 draft for the Bengals. He was a 6th round draft pick and Lou refused to use players like this because the layers of players in front of him in Sam Hubbard the vet and Myles Murphy being a 1st round draft pick would play when Hubbard wasn't on the field but toward the end of the year I think Lou's hand was forced to play some of these young players like Cedric and Cedric did not disappoint. I'm not saying to hand the job to Cedric Johnson because competition and to fight for that position is a good thing. I'm just asking for people to notice what Cedric did with the small amount of opportunities he had.
Kris Jenkins and McCookin McKinnley Jackson both finishing year 1 as rookies and they both have very good futures ahead of them. I think Bengals are able to resign BJ Hill... team player.
If the Bengals need anything on the interior it would be a vet player that doesn't mind sharing time or even being 2nd string but still splitting equal playing time. My prediction for the Bengals is Raiders FA DT Adam Butler who is still producing and having fun at age 31.
Another free agent I think Al Golden may like to bring here is Raiders FA DE K'lavon Chaisson because Al Golden described a type of player he'd like to have on the team who's able to play on the edge and drop back into coverage.
I think the Bengals could draft Xavier Watts at 17 and still draft a good edge in the 2nd round round such as Jared Ivey Ole Miss or Ohio St JT Tuimoloau.... another mid to late round pick I'm very high on is Virginia Tech's Antwaun Powell-Ryland.
Great discussion.
This who i want as our FS
If there... Malaki Starks #17 pick
This Safety class looks very good to me. Good enough to maybe get 2! Watts is ranked 4th with a possibility to rise up boards to 1st Rnd possibly from a guy I like to watch for draft prospects!!! Texas FS Mukuba who looks interesting is ranked right after him. 2nd looks like it going to have some pretty high end D-line your prolly going to have to pass on to get Watts.
If we're really looking for a hard-hitting safety I prefer Ransom from Ohio State 💯
Im a Notre Dame fan & Im hear to tell you he the 1 person on that defense that I would like in Bengals uniform.
He Jessie Bates 2.0.
I hear a lot of people talking about other safeties but theyre not everywhere on that field like he is.
He's a field general
I think not at pick #17.they need a Nolan or Grant then maybe if they can trade up in the 2 and Rd. and get him possibly! Stone is too expensive for his production he was a swing & a miss in FA! He's maybe best in a Buffalo Nickel.package as. a 3 Rd safety but again his contract far exceeds play! Thanks again as a Bengalsfan luv your content & views!
I'm just as interested in the later round guys from ND, where Golden might know about some solid players not necessarily on the league's radar
The Bengals aren't taking a safety in the first round and Watts isn't likely going to be there in the second round when the Bengals pick.
I like him, but I don't think bengals get him. Skeptical his value is as high as the 17th pick, but I also don't think he will be there when bengals select again. So they'd have to make some traded, which the bengals tend not to do, and are not superior at executing trades when they attempt it.
