The Bengals NEED to PAY Trey Hendrickson Before It’s Too Late
With comments from Bengals Director of Player Personnel Duke Tobin regarding Trey Hendrickson’s future in Cincinnati, there’s a lot to unpack about what this means for the team moving forward. In this episode, Malik and the State of the Jungle crew break down Tobin’s statements, analyze Hendrickson’s impact on the Bengals defense, and discuss why keeping him long-term could be crucial for the team’s success. Is Hendrickson’s future with the Bengals in doubt? How important is he to the team’s defensive scheme and long-term plans? And what would losing him mean for the Bengals chances at another deep playoff run? We cover all of that and more in this in-depth discussion.
Let us know your thoughts in the comments! Should the Bengals extend Trey Hendrickson?

I dont care about the '29 & '30 cap... it'll be $325m+ by then. Back load contracts, guarantee the second year, maximize and manipulate the cap. Restructure the contracts you can. This is the window. When Burrow retires you can worry about being in "cap hell". They'll have to rebuild with a QB who's currently in 4th grade. Do it Bengals! Now's the time!

To me that safety spot where Stone is playing has got to be fixed. If Watts is ranked 4th best or even 6th best overall safety, if that's the guy to fix that position he is very much worth the 17th overall pick "for the Bengals." It's your best chance to stop the bleeding for 4 or possibly 5 years. Many people are going to say D-Line is more important and we all know it starts in the trenches but here's the deal, we have young players that just finished their rookie year and others just their 2nd year completed. Some highly drafted and some mid to late rounds. DE Myles Murphy 1st round 2 years exp.. Very little playing time offered to him but why ? From watching him you see he doesn't have the bend to be a great edge. He's got good length, strength and straight line speed and with his big body frame he has plenty room for adding weight to be a interior pass rusher. Imagine him running down QB's trying to pass outside the tackle box because it will be easier for him running from the inside to outside rather than one side to the other side. Get up in the 290 range and move inside is where his career should be. DE Cedric Johnson 6th round 1 year exp.. Man, if there's a player on the D-Line I'm high on it's Cedric Johnson. He simply just needs the opportunity and I think when it's said and done he could be the biggest steal of the 2024 draft for the Bengals. He was a 6th round draft pick and Lou refused to use players like this because the layers of players in front of him in Sam Hubbard the vet and Myles Murphy being a 1st round draft pick would play when Hubbard wasn't on the field but toward the end of the year I think Lou's hand was forced to play some of these young players like Cedric and Cedric did not disappoint. I'm not saying to hand the job to Cedric Johnson because competition and to fight for that position is a good thing. I'm just asking for people to notice what Cedric did with the small amount of opportunities he had. Kris Jenkins and McCookin McKinnley Jackson both finishing year 1 as rookies and they both have very good futures ahead of them. I think Bengals are able to resign BJ Hill... team player. If the Bengals need anything on the interior it would be a vet player that doesn't mind sharing time or even being 2nd string but still splitting equal playing time. My prediction for the Bengals is Raiders FA DT Adam Butler who is still producing and having fun at age 31. Another free agent I think Al Golden may like to bring here is Raiders FA DE K'lavon Chaisson because Al Golden described a type of player he'd like to have on the team who's able to play on the edge and drop back into coverage. I think the Bengals could draft Xavier Watts at 17 and still draft a good edge in the 2nd round round such as Jared Ivey Ole Miss or Ohio St JT Tuimoloau.... another mid to late round pick I'm very high on is Virginia Tech's Antwaun Powell-Ryland.

They need guys that are Dawgs, stop taking chances at certain positions & draft a for sure guys at a needed positions. Ravens don't draft like that, Browns don't draft like that Steelers don't draft like that. That get what's needed that's why they always give Cincy a rough time.

Mike’s stock has significantly raised. IMO I feel like if you’re not extending Trey, send him and your first round pick to whatever team is potentially looking to draft Green that night then you can add Green while also saving some money along with a potential late round pick as well. As far as Stewart, I don’t think they need to invest into a potential project in addition to the players that already need that attention but long as the end results are good obviously it’s whatever. The other guys that were mentioned would be great to add if you don’t trade to get Green.

  • @denizgifford1670

To me they are in a rebuild on the defense... Anyone over 30 should be traded... That includes Trey. Love Trey, but this is at the highest trade value right now. He is over 30 and there is absolutely no way he leads the NFL in sacks next year. He is only going to get older and there will be a drop off. Trey played hurt all year this year which takes years off of your career. They over paid for Hubbard and he dropped off a cliff. If you do not trade Trey now in a year or 2 you will have another player getting paid way too much and you need to cut him as there is not trade value for a boat anker. Not to mention he was one of Lou's guys... He played at his absolute best under Lou. With Lou Gone who knows what he will be. They hired a college DC for a reason let him build this thing up from the ground. Lou's Guys are a liability without Lou... Holding on to Trey is what bad teams do... They had an super easy schedule this year and could not make the playoffs... Do you really think they will have the second easiest schedule next year? No they need to build up the Defense. Trey could fetch a 1st or multiple seconds to a contender. If they do not trade him now he will be battling injuries and the drop off will be huge. To me the lion's div loss will make them more willing to trade as the need to win now. So you could trade Hendrickson to the lions to pair up with Hutch. So his last 1-2 years of production are not wasted. If you get picks with a college DC you could get so many hits... They need draft capital. Why sign a college coach if you are not letting him pick the groceries and give him as many items to work with. Sign Chase long term. Tag and Trade Higgins. Trade Hendrickson. Sign a veteran WR for reasonable money. They missed the window to go all in. They have to pay too much. What did BB? hold on to guys like Trey? Drafting has to be the long term strategy to in a SB...

That is a crazy rule: NO players on the Bengals team if they're over 30. With that logic one of the greatest QBs of all times, Tom Brady, would have been traded or let go by the Patriots 15 years before he turned all the QB records on their heads. What kind of logic is that? Besides the star players the Bengals are letting walk are mostly young by your standards with the exception of DJ Reader, who I might add is now playing noseguard for the Lions. Your logic would seem to favor draftees which is the cheap way to go rather than necessarily the smart way to go.

@@louiseregan2498 I disagree. the over 30 is are you in win now mode or win later mode... The Bengal's Defense is completely different now. New DC means different style. They are in a defensive rebuild... It needs to be an overhaul and done right other wise they are setting up the new guy to fail. 1. Brady is the exception to the rule. Derek Henry is the exception to the rule. Why did the falcons not stick with Matt Ryan... He was MVP and out of the league at 34. Cam Newton MVP out of league at 33... Brady is the only QB that played well over 40. 2. Brady was a Bargain. He was paid about half of what he top end guys got in the market... Paying Top End Money on a QB over 35 is a risk and Brady's price tag allowed you to overlook his age. Do the Falcons regret signing and overpaying Cousins... 3. BB still tried to get rid of Brady after he turned 34. He had been convincing Kraft to move on from him a year to early than an year too late but the Bargain was too good to pass up. 4. Trey wants top end money. He has about 2 years of top end play left... Right now the Bengals are so far from where they were 3 years ago... They have lost to much and Trey is a Lou Guy... Under the Saints he was not even a starter. They went to a SB when the QB and Both top end WRs cost less than 40 mil total as they were all on a rookie deal. Burrow is now getting 55 mil. Chase will get 30+ mil a year and Higgins if stays is at least getting 25mil. you go from a 40mil luxury to a 110 million dollar necessity. There is not enough money to pay everyone. Hendrickson is awesome and should get paid but has more value to a contender than the Bengals who had the second easiest Schedule and missed the playoffs. 5. Coaches from college have an intimate knowledge of in coming NFL players. So the DC they hired has an opportunity to build a juggernaut of a defense over the next 2-3 seasons. To compete with a Legion of Boom level talent upgrade. If you Trade Hendrickson you can get some picks and the DC can build the defense from ground up in his image to dominate with a top 5 Offense and maybe a top 5 Defense. If you over pay for Hendrickson in 2 years you will be cutting him like Hubbard. 6. He had also been nursing an injury all year and played hurt. That typically is cause for concern long term. 7. Winning Defensive player of the year is the absolute peek of what you could get for Hendrickson. I do not see him at 31 or 32 going up in value.

    • @denizgifford1670
      @denizgifford1670 8 годин тому

@@jaypeso And I can also justify over paying for Chase (24) and Higgins (26) as if you give them both 5 plus year deals and Front load the contract win most of the Guaranteed money... They are young and in their prime. Even if the 5th year of contract is a waste its front loaded. To Focus on the draft and DC to build of the Defense but that includes Trey getting Traded then. In 2-3 Seasons they could have a wagon of a defense. Then they have about 1-2 years of Prime Burrow Chase and Higgins with potentially a top 5 defense.

Pratt stays. The reason is because the nickel corner has to get phased out due to teams being more dedicated to the run. The next 5 years minimum will see the resurgence of more traditional 4-3 and 3-4 looks. It has to happen otherwise teams will just control clock and run it down your throat. 7 in the box means you need more true LB's and Pratt fits that role. I don't know why anyone would have expected Dax, as a draftee, could replaced Jesse Bates an outstanding safety and team leader? Seems like a recipe for disaster in my book, which is was. I like him, but I don't think bengals get him. Skeptical his value is as high as the 17th pick, but I also don't think he will be there when bengals select again. So they'd have to make some traded, which the bengals tend not to do, and are not superior at executing trades when they attempt it.

This Safety class looks very good to me. Good enough to maybe get 2! Watts is ranked 4th with a possibility to rise up boards to 1st Rnd possibly from a guy I like to watch for draft prospects!!! Texas FS Mukuba who looks interesting is ranked right after him. 2nd looks like it going to have some pretty high end D-line your prolly going to have to pass on to get Watts.

They should bring Zimmer in as a Defensive Consultant. If the Bengals start 0-2 or 1-4 they could slide him into the driver's seat for the rest of the season.

Al Golden... is a good hire and what the Bengals need!

I had little hope the Bengals would make a lot of personnel changes as slow as they are but it seems more likely now.

I'm just as interested in the later round guys from ND, where Golden might know about some solid players not necessarily on the league's radar

I dont want any guard that is coming back from a serious leg injury. If we're paying a guard I dont want to roll the dice hoping he bounces back.
