Balderdash. We have seen waves of so called wonder weapons come and go without making much of a fundamental difference to the reality of the Russian presence in Ukraine. St Javelin, HIMARS, M777, Leopards, Challengers, Abrahams, Spike, ATACMS, Storm Shadow etc etc etc have come, and the Russkies are still slowly rumbling westward. I don’t see what difference any “promised weapon” will make.

And what was Obama supposed to do, fight Russia, send weapons to Ukraine at that time? Ukraine unfortunately had a President who was scared of Putin at that time, so Obama wouldn't have been able to send any weapons of any kind. you people are always talking tough, you cannot initiate a war against someone who has nukes and are your equal, definitely not for a country were not even allied with. Wake up!

A very good discussion. Thank you! Here are some opinions & additional info.🤔
    1. A 'crisis' in Ukraine's military leadership? History shows that, during protracted military conflict, ti is VERY common for upper-level military leaders to be changed. And it is not always an issue of poor communication/cooperation between military & political leaders, or a question of competence. In some cases, it is a matter of the nature of the war having shifted, making one military leader's expertise being more relevant than another's.
    2. Russia's occupation of Avdiivka is certainly a tactical success, but is it a strategic success? IMHO, not really any significant one.
    3. True, there is no 'wonder weapon', but long-range ATACMS in sufficient numbers would provide a key capability that will seriously impact the Russians on a strategic level.
    4. Furthermore, Ukraine receiving long-range, unitary-warhead ATACMS could finally persuade Olaf Scholz to provided the even longer-range, more destructive Taurus cruise missiles.
    5. BTW, a recent poll in the U.S.A. showed that 73% of U.S. citizens fully support the U.S. providing military aid to Ukraine. The only 'isolationist' aspect to the U.S.A. are the MAGA-cult/Trump's sheep in Congress, the Senate & the state legislatures. (*)
    6. If the U.S.A. withdrawals from NATO, one of the largest challenges for Europeans & Canadians is breaking its dependency on the massive U.S. weapons development & manufacturing sector. One of the reasons for this is that, since WWII, the U.S. military-industrial complex has had the advantage of the economy of scale (the U.S. is a huge empire which must equip its 200+ military bases around the world, etc.), and, as such, usually out-bid/strong-armed European defence industries & basically choked-off any competition. This has left Europe, Canada, Australia & many other 'western' allies of the U.S.A. highly depended on the U.S.A. for up-to-date military equipment, weaponry & munitions.
(*) Their motivation is, just like Putin's inner circle, complete unquestioning obedience to Trump. (and Trump is totally motivated by the allure of absolute power, extreme wealth & inflation of the ego...plus, now,...his desperate need to become POTUS so he can escape the financial & legal consequences of the 91 serioous criminal charges which are supported by abundant evidence & damning witnesses!

The one way to insure escalation is to under respond. Piddling supplies of weapons only encourages the other side to step up one more level. An overwhelming response will stop a aggression. But how is it that North Korea and Iran supplying Russia with missiles to ILLEGALLY ATTACK CIVILIAN targets in Ukraine - a third party they are not at war with - is NOT an escalation, but NATO supplying missiles to Ukraine to LEGALLY DEFEND itself by hitting MILITARY targets in Russia IS an escalation?
Are NATO's redlines for Ukraine really telling the world that effective deterrence must rely on nukes and unhinged dictators? That brutality still topples international law and the right to self-defence, because the most powerful and wealthiest military alliance in the world - NATO - is scared of bullies with fewer resources, power and budget than them?

Of course there are large stockpiles in a lot of European countries where the US has bases, so it can be released and backfilled very quickly (one hopes). The US is doing what they did in 1939-1941, before they helped out in Europe.
We were all hoping for a peaceful Europe and thus our spend on the military was smaller, than in the 70s/80s.

If Russia is stopped in Ukraine, they`ll be less of a threat to Denmark. Denmark has not been "giving all of its military capacity to Ukraine". We gave all our newly bought howitzers, but new ones have been bought. Denmark is also about to use more than 2% of its GDP on its defense. In other words, we recognize the growing threat from Russia.

Or perhaps this shows rather how much of an existential threat the Danes consider the Russia-Ukraine conflict to be. The combined annual EU GDP is around $20T per year while the US GDP is just over $25T. However, the EU has provided $48.7B in aid to Ukraine while the US has contributed $46.3B with another $60B in the pipeline. It is therefore important for the EU to increase its contribution to match that of the US, especially as the US is engaged in the ME conflict and preparing for another war front in Asia. Our military is funded, trained and equipped to handle two (2) major global conflicts which means we cannot also be totally engaged in Europe. NATO nations need to step up and fund their defenses with the 2% of GDP they all agreed to years ago. If Trump wins re-election there will be more pressure for NATO nations to increase their defense budgets so it would be better for this alliance to do its part in confronting Russia in Ukraine since this war is taking place on the European continent.

I follow a smaller channel (Artur Rehi, an Estonian) who has been penalised for describing Russians in Ukraine as ‘occupiers’ (hate speech, allegedly, due to complaints from Russian bot farms) - does Times Radio channel get similarly penalised?

in a population, where 80% support Putin, at the same time 50% do not have a water toilet, you cannot harden anything anymore. Outside of the few largest cities, poverty rules and these will fall for almost anything which brings money. Obviously Putin keeps Russia like this by intent - there never was a move to invest oil money properly.
Russian oil refineries, ports, military sites simply need to be shut down - if it is sabotage, drones, Himars, or medium range weapons like ATACMS does not matter at the end.
Russians have to feel the consequences of their decisions.
