I bought one packet with the two cars plus a brown loco and also got one other of just the orange loco. Great tip on painting along with the dark wash to bring out the details.
The Microace 'C Type' locos are also very good little N gauge starter locos, and they do them in several different body styles, though I'm not sure if they are readily available in the UK.
Brilliant! I was wondering about how easy it would be to remove the pantograph and use it as a diesel ('cos I'm so ham fisted I'd be certain to knock the poles over when uncoupling!) and you've read my mind! Great video as always, Andrew🙂
exellent products i had a couple of kato american locos they ran very smooth and were years old they are well made i got some fleschmann and roco secondhand locos there the same nice review thanks for sharing
The pantograph is a big improvement on the fixed plastic one that came on mine from the previous production. Unfortunately, the steam locomotive in this range is a dummy, using a powered coach. Hoping you come up with a couple of body conversions for this chassis. Hope to figure out how to convert it to Micro/Trains couplers. Cheers!
Very interesting concept that. Not my personal interest, but as you say I can see how it's a good option for someone getting into the hobby, & especially with those prices, a lot better than the offerings of a certain well established company's reinvented scale....
I’ve got the Kato BR Industrial N gauge set coming soon after much deliberation over TT120 vs N gauge vs Z scale. Hopefully this cheap entry point will give a newbie like my an idea whether to get seriously into the hobby. The unitrack was the main selling point in the end and I wanted a reliable budget savvy loco to kick things off. Fingers crossed!
If you just want something that runs fine and looks like railway rolling stock, that's a deal. About the running qualities, the Japanese N scale rolling stock I had bought is my best running one overall, just at the same level as my HO German rolling stock (this one not at the same price !). Kato makes here what nearly everyone wants for model trains : simple, good-looking, decently priced and reliable rolling stock. Why does no one else understood this trend ?
I tell you what mate, this is a great idea for anyone in another scale that just wants an N gauge desktop project if they fancy doing something a little bit different, or indeed if they fancy going continental. I like that they are realistic looking with the merest of additional touches and at that price you’re not going to have the fear of taking a craft knife to them anything like if it’s a UK model! 🤔 I must say I am surprised how good those locos are for the price and there is plenty of scope for even a moderately skilled modeller to fill their boots, especially if there are steam models available in the range too 😎 Cheers mate 🍀👍🍻
Yup i get mine from Train trax as well , plaza japan has them for 20 quid .. but shipping is 20.00 quid ... and if it goes wrong you have to spend another 20 quid posting them back ...
Great video again but just thought of something. If you want to increase the possibilities in shunting you can use power routing points to get a second loco into the shunting game. Or if you use powered overhead lines you could use a loco that gets its power from that line without the need for DCC.
If you're gonna run N. Kato is your answer. INCO nickel mine in Sudbury ran 2 locos like these in yellow. There at the Northern Ontario Railway Museum. I saw them last summer🚂🇨🇦🇬🇧🚃🚃🙋
I model in OO gauge but I can see this would be very good for new people just starting out in the hobby as the prices are getting ridiculous with Hornby. Is the track more expensive than OO gauge or is it about the same?
Great review thanks. Is this the smallest n gauge engine you have come across? Am trying emulate an engine that would bring coal out of a mine in tipping bucket type wagon. Any suggestions or thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks Stu
Thanks. I am not sure if it's the smallest, but it is small, very reliable and cheap. Some of the UK shunters are four times the price and I doubt they run any better?
I've started looking at N gauge, is there a starter set you could recommend that would provide a bunch of track at a reasonable price to build a small layout?
A couple of questions: Can we assume that as the driving force is in a coupled wagon, that should we have another make of wagons, they can not use them with Kato engines, and if they can will the couplings be compatible
@@keithwreyford999 these are not like the steam loco, the loco is the powered chassis so you can use it to haul other wagons, the couplings are standard Arnold style so fully compatible with other wagons etc
@@kenshores9900 my apologies, I tend to get taken to task as I often confuse scale and gauge, which of course are not really the same thing but tend to get used the same
Painting and blackwash:nice reminder on how to improve the look of wagons and even locos. 🎨

Hello, those locos really suit the layout, also the scenery blends in well, detail the trucks make it stand out better.
The Microace 'C Type' locos are also very good little N gauge starter locos, and they do them in several different body styles, though I'm not sure if they are readily available in the UK.
Sometimes but sadly not as cheap as the Kato. I'm really getting into Japanese railways now

If I had realised when I started that you could take it off I probably would have done lol
Those really are great value and would be nice for a shelf layout.
Thanks for showing people you CAN still afford the model railway hobby. 👍
Thanks

The steam loco is still very nice for an oval set up. I'm hoping they might make a diesel in the range at some point
Hi mate, great to see you are still up and running.
Just bought one of the black ones for £37. Bloody amazing, gonna 3d print some other bodies for mine off thingiverse.
And i do have quite a bit of track, from a charity shop which had no idea what they were for £20 for a whole box.
Very interesting concept that. Not my personal interest, but as you say I can see how it's a good option for someone getting into the hobby, & especially with those prices, a lot better than the offerings of a certain well established company's reinvented scale....

You won't be disappointed by either the loco or the track. Check out Peco N gauge wagons kits for cheap rolling stock

Agreed, only my Piko hobby line locos are as good, and again that's a budget range. Such a shame there is no OO equivalent

I have three, they are great value considering how good they are
The pocket line range together with Peco wagon kits made N gauge possible for me. Like you say I can dabble without breaking the bank
Great find! Good looking locomotive 🤩
Thanks

Plus we kept getting stung for £15 import tax as well!
Great video again but just thought of something.

I use power isolating points so yes could run two locos
@@BudgetModelRailways Just a thought I had, came to me as I was testing out a massive haul of Arnold points that I'd bought this afternoon.
If you're gonna run N. Kato is your answer. INCO nickel mine in Sudbury ran 2 locos like these in yellow. There at the Northern Ontario Railway Museum. I saw them last summer🚂🇨🇦🇬🇧🚃🚃🙋
Kato is best in N guage....looks great for small shunting scenes...

Hi Mike.
I cannot find a company/shop called 'Train Tracks' anywhere on Google. Please advise. 👍
Paul.
Traintrax
Hi Paul.
Ahhh, I've misspelt it. Thanks for that info. 👍

Traintrax
Hi Mike.
Thanks for the prompt confirmation of my misspelling. 👍
Paul.
Here is a cheaper supplier, "top slots and trains," a steam loco £54.00 and the ones you're using £38.00 are definitely a very reasonable starter set
Thanks, same price as Traintrax for the shunter but good to have an alternative

Hello, where is the industrial backscene from?
Ebay, I think it's a gauge master item
@@BudgetModelRailways thanks for the tip I'll keep an eye out.
N scale?
Whatever
@@BudgetModelRailways so what does that mean? Not hating! Does that mean OO (HO) and N. Haven’t seen them here in the states.
I made the comment in a purposeful manner.
