If you remove the grand serpent I would put the flux as one of the better seasons. I re watched it recently and it's actually quite fun and well done. As well as one of the best televised outings for the Sontarans. The main thing that harmed it I think was the reaction to the timeless child retcon. Not a good idea but not as bad as people (myself included) thought at the time.
The Flux had the potential to be the only good series in the Chibnal era. The ending ruined that. It is possible that one extra episode would have improved it, the end was rushed, nothing that the Doctor or the team did made any difference, the only reason things ended was because the main villain thought that their underlings did a bad job. Series 14 is so much better (if we ignore the space babies).
Flux never deserved the hate in my opinion. Most of it was from just the pure fact it was jodie. Like. If it was made by Moffat or RTD1 people would love it.
I actually found out one major reason why Flux turned out so... odd- Okay so: Episodes 1, 2, and 4 - the best episodes imo, were all filmed during the first production block, and episodes 3, 5 and 6 were filmed during the second production block. The episodes unfortunate enough to be in the second block (which ended up being most of the actual Flux storyline, as the standalones were in block 1) ended up being very rushed and not well-executed. I remember watching Flux and being quite confused for the most part, especially because we never really got told Swarm and Azure's plan- like, sure, they wanted to "free Time" or whatever... but why? Plus all of the things you mentioned in your video. While I still ended up enjoying the performances regardless, it definitely could've been WAY better if the actual Flux storyline was given some time to work out the kinks. If they took out the Grand Serpent and gave us more Yaz-Dan-Jericho time, Episode 5 may have been a bit better- And honestly I wanted to see more Division members too, but I know - COVID As for series 14, while the Empire of Death was certainly hot garbage, that was the only episode that could be considered bad imo. Every other episode was really enjoying to watch! Aside from a few cringeworthy lines and the ending from The Star Beast, the only episode I think people would consider bad is "Space Babies," but only because it was a very lighthearted episode, and deep themes weren't explored as much in that one as with every other episode. I still enjoyed it though One thing that we probably could all agree on though: neither Flux nor series 14 could ever beat Orphan 55 as the worst Who story. I can't stand Orphan 55-
Series 1/14 is definitely the worst of all the New Series, hands down: just in terms of narrative coherence, Flux is way better than Series 1; and, unlike the latter, Flux finale doesn't retroactively dismantle the majority of the plot points on which the stories that preceed it were based upon.
Hiya! Coll video, love the aesthetic! But... Oh, Flux was definitely the worst of modern who. Too much stuff crammed inside, too little time to explore it all. Let's go!! We had: - Karvanista "I can't, If I talk about this I die" and the lupari genocide is enough to say how bad written this whole concept was. One of the first companions of the doctor, treated like that. - The Timeless children to be explored It's not explored at all, we only got the Illogical House, but we never got to get inside of it and explore her past - Tecteun Such a good actress to be wasted as a exposition dump, only telling things we already knew or nothing like " division is simple and indescribable" ... Got killed 5 seconds before the finale - The Fugitive Doctor Only appears on episode 3, as a flashback, got her scenes stolen by a 13th with a dark coat. I know because of COVID she couldn't be there, but why not film all her scenes in green screen??? And hey! Why is her name The Doctor? Like, chibbs takes the awesome idea of pre-hartnell Doctors and literally say: they're the same, same morals, same doctorISH attitudes! - The Flux Event Half of the universe is destroyed. Half. Logopolis already did quite the damage, and we got the flux, that in the very first episode goes straight to our solar system, but hey, no harm done because of the Lupari shield, but what about the rest? How is not the freaking sun gone? And what about the ramifications of it? Like, yeah, Dan said the doctor saved the entire universe, but we never saw a reverse button being pressed or time being rewritten. Not even the doctor dealing with the pain of half of the universe being erased. Well, the usual for a doctor who didn't even told Yaz who Ruth was!! - The Snake man Why? Why? We already have Swarm and Azure, why this guy??? Plus we have the trio (Yaz, Dan and Jericho) in the past being chased by the snake man's henchmen out of freaking nowhere!! Like, they didn't even knew him nor him about them!?? - Sontarans Why Chins... Why??? Should've brought them a season before, they literally serve nothing to the plot, they're there to suffer genocide - Swarm and Azure Such a cool concept, to be wasted with a Deus ex machina kill like that one in The Vanquisher. Chins wrote the worst dialogue possible, like c'mon "shall we see it? Shall I open the watch? I think I Shall? Goffuiahh dialogue - Vinder and Bel I think it's her name Chibss said we would go trough a lot of emotions with Vinder... Yeeeee. Not a lot. Bel (I think that's her name, dunno) was way better, her introduction was amazing, seeing her dealing with all of this cataclysm, she dealing with all the dangers, just to be have a rushed ending standing still. - Dan the man who is a plasterer He's good at this, but not great as Graham. - Yaz She deserved so much more! She only got treated badly by the doctor, went through hell stuck in the past, got the worst dialogues written in history and never got an actual conversation with the doctor about all the shit she hid from her. Season 1 (series 14) was fun for me, the finale was horrible, that's true, but hey, at least I can watch the episodes separated and majority of it is enjoyable and not a whole lot of stuff crammed to tell a not cohesive story. But that's just my opinion, I saw many who adored flux, I personally only enjoyed series 11 from chibss and his specials, excluding the dead devils one... But keep up with the videos guys!
@@peterman_666 hey man! Thanks for checking out the video and we really appreciate your input. You make very good points. Definitely a very flawed season, but we figured it’s worth revisiting. Thanks again for checking out the video!
I still prefer series 14 because the finale is only 2 eps of complete crap compared to fluxs 6 eps of mostly crap. Plus with series 14 we got 4 eps of tremendous quality preceding the completely crap finale.
The last series was just beyond total rubbish. Far worse than Flux. Only one story that I would say pretty damn good.....Those wonderful Goblins Milly was wonderful but as to the Dr, just about all we saw was dreadful acting & crap gay sex scenes. Dr Who has now sadly become a platform for Gay sex, making kids wonder if the were Arthur or Martha.
I'm only halfway through, and the constant jabs at the current era have got really irritating. This video would've been stronger if you'd made a comparison at the start and/or end, and chosen one or two of the stronger jabs to keep, and cut the rest, it's just a bit relentless and gives the impression you'd rather have made a review of season 1 / series 14.
Thanks for the feedback and thanks for checking out the video. We're still very new to this kind of review video format, so we're still working out what works and what doesn't.

Agreed! Despite some of the things Chris Chibnall changed, the better moments of Flux definitely make up for it.
I was harsh not on jodie but on chibbs, but outside his first season i still get annoyed that its not seen in a more positive light overall
Agree. It will be interesting to see how her upcoming Big Finish audios turn out! Her era certainly had a lot of potential.

Interesting opinion! We are glad you could find some enjoyment in Series 14, even though we felt that it similarly failed to live up to its potential.

the only it did right was when it ended.
It wasn't great but it had enough for me to enjoy it. Too many villains though.
