  • On the second Episode of our Fraser Island West Coast 4wd Adventure, we pick up where we left of and continue to explore around the McKenzie jetty and have a look what is left of Mckenzie's Timber Mill. We walk back the 2.5km on the beach and discuss the best option to visit the WW2 cam, Jetty and mill. After an Ice Cream and Coffee at Kingfisher Bay Resort, we team up with Peter Mayers a local photographer for a later afternoon photographic excursion to visit one of the hard to reach huge inland Sand Blows where it feels we are transported into the Sahara Desert. After well over 10km walking on the day, we got caught out at night and decided to rest for a few hours on the Valley of the Giants loop track but not after having a night wash in one of Fraser's crystal clear streams. We are woken at 5 am by some very noise bush dwellers then drive the Valley of the Giants loop which still has some of the biggest and oldest trees on K'Gari. I also quickly discuss a few items among them how quick the packing in of my Helinox Sunset Chair (1.5kg and 1/3 of the size of my regular chair) in which I'm currently testing to see if it can be my only chair for the Canning and Remote Simpson. I also briefly show my new Drifta canvas bags which help me to keep my stuff behind the gull-wings from flying around. We driver some very, very overgrown old tracks which add to both of our pins striping selection and cost Alan from PJ's Off-Road a front indicator and visit the Urangan Fraser Coast including Sany Point and Moon Point which is north-west facing 6.5 km long beach which lies between Moon Point and Coongul Point. Another stop was Bogimbah Creek it was the location for the Bogimbah Creek Mission operated from 1897-1904. Indigenous people were held there under appalling conditions which caused the deaths of more than 100 from illness and malnutrition. The graves of over 70 people were discovered in 2014. It is a pretty steep high tide beach backed by a shallow foredune and an elongate swamp behind it that drains out at Moon Point. So Mozzies and Sandflies are usually plentiful. We also visit the amazing Postan's Logging Camp which was still used till 1991 when logging finally ceased on Fraser Island. it still has tons of old machinery and vehicles, water towers and many old houses which provided the accommodation. I will also explain why there is an old school bus on Fraser Island (Kgari)

I agree one hundred percent that you don't need to give the location of the logging camp. I believe that anyone who puts the research in, will find it and will probably treat it with the respect that it deserves. In my experience, people that vandalize, steal and litter are usually lazy and will not bother to try to find it. A great video one again, Thank you...

Awesome video mate, we just bought the same helinox chairs before Christmas for the same reason, space and weight and i am suprised at how comfortable they are. How did they go in the sand? Thanks for sharing the places you travel 👍

Pretty good in sand mate but as expected sinks a bit, haven’t got the sand sheet keen to see what difference that would make

Don’t wear anything Blue in Fraser Island particularly if there is a lot of those huge horse flies about
