If you use silicon RTV to seal a gasket that touches a coolant passage then you cannot use coolant containing DexCool as it'll eat through that silicon RTV in a day or two. The coolant will spill into the engine oil via the valley and into the cylinders through the intake port. Use a soft style gasket that does not use the RTV with just the valley being metal or even soft gaskets with a separate metal valley.
Yes thats why i used the conventional coolant this engine was originally designed for, plus dexcool is an all around problematic coolant to begin with. There were no gaskets available for oldsmobile engines that were readily available that are separate from the metal tray, its just how these engines were designed. This specic engine design pre dates dexcool by over 50 years.
Hey, back again! Just getting ready to replace the intake gasket on my wagon. Thanks for this upload! You're a gentleman and a scholar. How's the car running now? You still daily it?
I'm going to be installing an Edelbrock Performer intake on my Olds 350. The Felpro instructions say to use the end gaskets provided. The intake instructions say to use a 1/4" bead of rtv. Which should I use?
Hi sorry to get back to you a little late. You mean the brass one? That is the oil pressure switch. It turns the "choke/oil" light on if the oil pressure is low.
Thank you. All my older videos are uncut because I had no way to pause them on my phone before, but videos like this I like to leave uncut because it shows how long it takes to do the repair.
Thanks! Still driving this old girl with the same intake gasket. Oldsmobiles are known for intake end seal failures but so far so good. I've killed 15 deer with it (more deer than I've taken with a rifle), taken it places where a car shouldn't even go, and it hasn't let me down to this day. I wouldn't trade this car for anything, i've had quite a few vehicles but this cheap slow old turd is way more fun than anything i've owned so far.
Thats a haynes manual. I believe it covers full size gm's from the 60's to the 90's. Usually you can get them at advance auto or autozone but im not sure if they normally stock this one. I got mine used on eBay real cheap.
@@international2408 hey, I have a 330 olds that I am also doing this too, I don't know where the drain plugs are, and I can't find any information on where they would be
That's not how daylight would do it!!!!
Thank you so much! There's hardly any direct videos on Oldsmobiles
Yea there aren’t many, that’s why I decided to make a few, glad i could help!
Just took mine off yesterday glad you showed the sequence and torque specs needed that big time THANKS!!
You're welcome, glad i could help
Would it not leak if you did not seal up the exhaust crossover with our RTV?
Why did u not RTV the center hole on the splash shield?
Great video this will help me out when im ready to install my intake 👍👍
Thanks!
What's the sensor called over the water pump
Oil pressure sensor

this isn't true at all, the real danger would be mixing dex cool with whatever coolant is left over in the passages - this is bad information everyone
What is the other open port on the olds manifold opposite side of egr port but is a little smaller than egr port?
It should be the port for the hot air choke tube.
Can it be blocked off? Because i just did an intake swap and this is the only openimg i have. Couldnt figure it out.
Yea you should be able to just block it off
Is it possible to reuse the gasket that was on the engine?
I have a olds 307 can I.remove intake without having to take out distributor
Yes. Unlike Chevy distributors, Oldsmobile distributors don't pass through the intake.
tudi weatherspoon u do not have to take it off i did my 350 Oldsmobile motor
Hey so if I use the thin metal gasket I don’t need to use the gaskets they sold me .?
That is my idea too. I’ve been told just a dab of rtv where the end seals mate withe the heads. And that valley pan nothing else.
Hello only 1st or second torque wrech?

I would follow the intake's instructions
So far, mine haven't leaked.
What is that sensor just above the water pump with the blue ring? Mine is leaking coolant but I don't know what the sensor is called.

I like the uncut videos shows more deteals

going to be doing same thing in a day or 2 on a 86 cutlass with 307
Cool. These intakes aren't too bad. Any questions, feel free to ask.
So year later did intake gasket hold up or you are now driving a new car just asking for feed back it was a good video

how does the oil fill tube come out?? is it screwed in ?? or pushed in??
Its pressed in. Mine was really tight.
What's that book called.

Does the coolant need to be drained in order to do this job?
Yes, first drain the radiator and then remove the block plugs on both banks to get all the coolant out.
@@international2408 hey, I have a 330 olds that I am also doing this too, I don't know where the drain plugs are, and I can't find any information on where they would be
If I remember correctly the drain plugs on this 307 were by the front core plug on both banks. They were hex head pipe plugs I believe.
What size are those plugs that block off the smog pump holes?
1/4 npt
Can't hear...

Must be a lot of Oldsmobiles with bad intake gaskets. I know the front and rear rubber seals fail often.
