Series 1 was great!
So nostalgic, the hair, the cars and the well spoken old school kiwi acting.
🙌🙌🙌 Encore!
Keep it coming.
Pleeeeeeeeaseeee add all Shorty seasons and episodes! Love watching these!!
Had a fantastic time watching Season 1, please don't leave us waiting too long for Season 2
Absolutely enjoyed the first session of this show, would love to see full restored session 2 and more, uploaded to this channel, would boost views and love for the show heaps.
UK viewer here, great to finally see season 1, which I never saw first time round. Looking forward to future seasons 👍
What a great season! New Zealand's first foray into soap, despite the fact it's neighbour, Australia, had been churning out the stuff for years.
Shortland Street is a great memory from my childhood years, many miles away in the United Kingdom. We have regional TV channels here (ITV) and it was shown at different times and a different pace depending on where you lived. Where I was, in NW England, the show started in 1993 with two tea-time episodes per week (shown at 5:10pm) on Monday and Tuesday.
It was introduced with little fanfare, but I recognised the amazing, talented and wonderful actress, Lisa Crittenden, from the previews and resolved to watch.
Sure, it took some time to get going, it wouldn't be until late in the season that the show truly felt as if it were gaining ground both in terms of smooth production and storylining, but when the show got it right, it REALLY got it right.
The unfortunate thing about viewing in the UK was that, due to the time slot, the show was often cut (and not with much proficiency) meaning that storylines often felt far more "choppy" and ill-thought out than they actually were - and one thing I am grateful to the uploader is the chance to see these storylines play out in full.
The one thing I note about watching the Shorty of then compared to the shorty of now is that in its early days, the storylines moved at great pace and every episode held a cheeky surprise or two that kept you hooked and wondering what would happen in the next episode. Shorty in its current state - while there are obvious improvements in production values - is that it has allowed the show to revert to typical soap format - episodes are often laborious and purely a vehicle for the viewer to move slightly nearer to the "good stuff", which might yet be weeks or months away. Shorty of old kept things fast-paced, while maintaining (particularly from the latter half of the first season onwards) viewer interest by dropping hints at greater things to come (and they certainly would in 1993!).
Although any one of us could name shortcomings of SHorty's first season, one thing no one could deny is that while some storylines seemed, at times, a little random and unfinished, it did a great job of establishing the core characters and leaving us in love with scatty Gina, gossipy Marj and devilish Darryl, to name but three.
Despite the fact the show sometimes imperiled characters who, we weren't quite sure in the early days that cared about (yet), the entertainment value was well done. Despite the fact the viewer could tell the production values weren't great, the show used some good devices to still show (or fool?) the viewer into thinking something MAY be about to happen and was all the better for it.
Whether you are a recent fan of Shorty, or have been watching since Day 1, you won't be disappointed to reminisce over the old days, or get to know the first characters in the show. Well worth a watch and some beautifully touching acting at times. The Miles storyline was particularly noteworthy during this first season, and seeing Nick in his early days before he became responsible is comedy gold.
Thank you for the upload!
Please upload season 2 and 3
I’m in the uk and love watching this as it used to be on here but for some reason it was dropped 😢
This was such a fun binge! please upload 1993 (and further) if possible!
Fantastic trip tru 92. Thanks for making it available. Some really confronting issues were raised for the time. Please add the next year 🙂
Yeah 93 and 94 would be great they where two of the shows best years
Then it went way downhill in 95 and 96 before getting better again in 1997.
First true cliffhanger?
Not really. The show didn't go off air in the first two years. This episode aired Thursday 31st Dec so the first ep of the 1993 series was the next night
Please upload season 2 now

Where was the beach in this episode?
I don't think they're going to upload anymore 90's episodes because they know it will drive people away from watching the current ones which are awful.
