METAL WORK MADE EASY If You Have The Right Tools

  • In this video I'll demonstrate metal work technics necessary to make the daunting task much easier to perform. I'll show how to fix the damage on both doors and a badly damaged fender by using a spotter tool and some other basic tools. Hopefully this video will give some folks a new perspective on metalwork and auto bodywork in general.
Here is a link to Spotter Tool used in the video: • Car Body DIY Spotter E...
And links some other tools that I used to make the repair:
    Pump Wedge: amzn.to/2V025P7
    Hydraulic Porta Power: amzn.to/3aO7rDG
    Long Sanding Block: amzn.to/3bSMurs
    80 Grit Sand Paper: amzn.to/2V1rNCO

Its good to see someone repairing damages instead of arbitrarily swapping lightly damaged parts out because they don't want to put a little bit of time in to repairing them. Body shops have become too dependent on the insurance money tit and have forgotten what its like to put a little more effort to repair something, unless they can make a ton of money on it!!! keep up the great work and look forward to the next video!!!

    • @fix206

Yeah, body shops charge so much for labor that it's cheaper for them to toss a lot of these parts and just replace them with new ones. On the other hand my labor is free to me
:-) so I try to fix just about anything that could possibly be salvaged, not to mention that it keeps me occupied while being quarantined :-)

You would have done well in the "old days" when panel beaters really did beat panels instead of replacing them. A body shop would have replaced the fender, both doors and probably the rear quarter as well. As soon as I saw that broken airbox, I knew you would repair it. Another item that would normally be replaced at a body shop. Having the right tools (even if you have to make them yourself) and knowing how to use them means you can repair these panels instead of replacing them.
I had to laugh at your comedy start to the video. Sure would have lifted the spirits of a lot of people stuck at home due to lock-downs. Stay safe and looking forward to more of your informative videos.

No wonder insurance company totaled out that rig, there was too much stuffer for them to replace :) I guess that was a win for me since I could fix just about all of it 😊

All is good here, the grind never ends. Just finished another project. Lot's of work/filming/time invested, think altogether between all of the projects that I've done since last may I got enough footage for 25-30 videos, maybe more. I really want to start posting, not a day goes by that I don't think about it. But I got three more cars in the driveway that need to get done, two of them Will be going up on the frame rack here pretty soon to get some framework done. And at the same time I'm working on a couple of products that I will start offering for sale here pretty soon, lots of R&D went into that . But I do promise you it won't be long until you'll see me posting again 👍

If you haven't found Trevor in the U.K., here's his latest ua-cam.com/video/AuM3zJbWTCk/v-deo.html He's a very humble guy with a lifetime of knowledge and experience. In his earlier videos, he goes through a lot of hammer and dolly metal shaping technique. He's a big fan of doing more with less. Sound like anyone you know. Also very chill if you're feeling a little anxious these days. Thanks for the content, informative as always. What are you using for a camera? Go Pro?

He for sure has some good content, I very much enjoy watching his vids !! He has a lot of old school bodywork/metalwork knowledge, it's sadly in a way becoming a lost art with less and less people practicing it. A shame really, good thing we have folks like him to lear from ! For camera I use Ipnone 10 and a GoPro 4, nothing fancy, but it gets the job done 👍👍👍

Collectively you guys inspired me to pick up a project car for my 17 y/o daughter at an IAAI auction in Portland three weeks ago. It's a 2011 Volvo C30 "Polestar" edition. Polestar is like Volvo's AMG group. It's not really a Polestar, there wasn't one for this car this year, but it did center punch a pole.
I had it dropped down to my company's work yard, before sneaking it into my one car garage at 2:00 a.m. to avoid the prying eyes of my crazy neighbors and their Home Owner's Association rules about no working on cars in your own damn garage. I removed the bumper cover, swapped the spare tire for the cracked right front rim, and pulled the upper radiator support forward with a winch to open the hood before shooting this quick walk around at midnight. In addition to the obvious, it needs a piece of a motor mount (cracked), starter motor (cracked), right front control arm, spindle, steering end link, strut, right cv shaft, and Airbox. photos.app.goo.gl/RKsSFEcim6aSX9SV9
