Hey Tommy!! I appreciate how you say “Know the song inside and out,”. I completely understand. Knowing the parts is like hearing an opening chord of a song, and wanting to turn up the volume! This segment was awesome!! 💪👏🎼

Just found your channel. Just saw you in Chandler, third time for me. You guys are incredible! Really appreciate the advice, I started playing 6 years ago at age 55. Never too late, and I’m always soaking up advice from great players like yourself. Wish I would have kept playing in my teens. Appreciate you taking the time to share your tips!

Thank you for all the videos. They are fantastic. How about doing a video where you talk about the Zep songs you enjoy playing the most live and maybe the ones you aren’t particularly excited about? Achille’s Last Stand is always a treat to see at a GTLO show. Love the backstage venue videos. Keep them coming please!

These are great tips, Tommy -- all super-helpful. I'm only a few years into my own guitar and music-learning journey, but already I can vouch for the effectiveness and importance of these tips. I've been spending more time with the CAGED system lately, and, wow, it's really opening up the fretboard for me. It's helping me to learn the note names on the fretboard in the areas with which I'm less familiar. I know it's the foundation I need, too, to focus on and get down my triads and inversions. Arpeggios and scales, too. Heck, it's connected to pretty much everything.
Really love your observations about gear, and about playing, creating, and enjoying music in one's own way. I fell into that same procrastination trap that I suspect so many have, and then I jettisoned it completely. I have just a couple guitars, hardly any pedals (amps and DAWs these days already have SO many options at the ready), and this simplifying of my gear has been a much bigger gift to myself than I could have guessed. I have been practicing more often, learning more stuff, and rarely looking at gear reviews, etc. So damn liberating.
Thanks once again -- I'm sure I'll see you and the band play live next time you're up near the Boston area.
PS -- 'Ten Years Gone' is one of my all-time favorite songs by any band. Such a beautiful, beautiful song. The opening chords never fail to move me no matter how often I hear them.

That’s great! Simplifying the gear is a huge upgrade. Catch ya in Boston!

@@boomerdell re: CAGED, like you I’m starting to “see” how it connects to pentatonic/diatonic shapes. Brett Pappa talks about how mind blowing it was when he discovered it and at first it didn’t make sense to me why. Tom Bukovac did a video about the “secret” and it’s about knowing these chord shapes, and almost more importantly the triad core of those shapes, all over the neck. He said he never knew it was called Caged. That’s when I started taking a closer look at it. I’m still working at it, with the aim of knowing them to the point it’s just a reflex, without thinking. Great stuff!

ah those are such good nuggets of info Tommy , I'm like you if only knew this yrs ago ,especially murphys law if your gigging its goin to happen backups for backups ! and lessen your options like you said don't wait til you find the right gear , i think had a hohnor strat copy and a super tube pedal from musicians friend and 50 watt marshall amp for yrs if i couldn't make it work i was just sol lol theres so many pedals now !! most of your tone comes from you , i may add lot of guys think there not good enough or use that as an excuse from getting out there you just have to take the plunge play with other people and better musicians if possible and learn what you can lord I've been in the same Zeppelin cover band for 23 yrs and am still learning something new Every day lol ah quick question Tommy man I've been using phase 90 for yrs on good times solo , and wonton song , saw you guys in greensboro and you nailed the wonton solo sound is it a rotating speaker l effect like a leslie effect ? sounded killer also your new bass player did an awesome job , house mix was perfect !!!!1

Thanks you! Yes the wonton song uses a rotary for the solo. All my fx are dialed in from the Axe FX by Fractal Audio. I don’t use any amp modeling with the Axe Fx just the fx
