  • This is all true. This is a real documentary. All other wrestling documentaries are pre-determined or 'fake.'
Documentary filmmaker Kenny Johnson sets out to discover the real person behind one of wrestling's fastest rising stars - Maxwell Jacob Friedman.
Who is the real 'Max?' And is he anything like the over-confident persona he portrays in the ring? Is he really 'Better Than You?'
Find out as Kenny Johnson interviews 'Max' and several mysterious figures from his past.

I love the psychology aspect of the character, this is a good reprensentation of a narcissist personal disorder... he gets this much hate because these are most toxic person you can have around... it’s called the second hand smoke of emotions... that’s why you hate him more and more weeks go by and it’s frustrating to see them succeed and lie about everything but still everything goes their way.... inside these persons have so much issues with their childhood, they don’t know how to deal with emotions so the rage or avoid! Wow just wow GREAT character development i mean this is genius! Ric Flair was the best reference towards the persona but there is not the fake life assumption that MJF is all about!

This was awesome. I enjoy MJF's straightforward "elitist" type heel on AEW, but would love to see a more subtle angle like this. Where he attempts to present himself as a normal middle class friendly guy, but can't hide his true self from bubbling up from under the surface, that he's really a deranged sociopath.

    • @phoenixmodellingphotography
      @phoenixmodellingphotography 4 роки тому +7

They had that story going for a while on BTE with him pretending to be a friendly normal guy around Cody as a means to an end, but couldn’t hold back from exposing his true self, an antisocial narcissist, to his fellow wrestlers when Cody wasn’t in the room. I wish AEW had told the story better by fleshing it out on their programming and waiting a little longer before the turn on Cody, because most of their audience don’t watch BTE and the “salt of the earth” gimmick could’ve been milked for so many classic moments and made the turn so much more impactful. A real historic coronation of the most compelling heel in modern wrestling. Still a great moment, just feels like such a waste.
I also don’t understand why the MJF vs Cody feud was just suddenly dropped and hasn’t been mentioned or acknowledged at all since like March?

Shawn Michaels was the best ring worker in WWE and was the beginning of the attitude era w DX.. Then turned heel and put over Austin for his first WWE Title. A HOF career!!! But also was prima donna. Then he came back as a new guy who was a Christian man with a high moral code and had a 2nd HOF career. Retired by Austin then retired Flair just to be retired by Undertaker. Legendary career much much much better on a wrestling basis then say Tully or even The Rock. Rocks career & his fame have overlapped way to much for this revisionist history. The Rock was in WWE as a full timer for 8.5 years and nearly 3.5 year as a mid-card act that fans chanted die Rocky die. He lost the final payoff match for IC Title for a much more fan loved (at the time) HHH. When he finally won the title and actually maybe his first three titles for against mankind. Lost to Lesnar in Brocks first big fued and after 2 WM losses to Austin finally beat him at 19 Stone Cold last match just for Hollywood Rock to lose to a debuting Goldberg. Then we got part time Rock who reform Rock N Sock and lost at WM deservedly vs Evolution. Then first Cena match great 2nd was terrible bc it was 50-50 booking and undeservedly beat Punk at RR ala Goldberg Kevin Owens. Funny how those 2 exact situations are viewed differently. Now Rock was amazing and had wins over everyone and Hogan in Toronto was great its just remembered a lil diff than reality would claim.

I'm so excited about AEW and seeing guys who I've heard of, seen a bit, just BLOSSOM in front of us. I mean if a 20+ year pro like Jericho sounds like he's on fire creatively, and a guy like Moxley is sounding like he's getting his big break, after a run in the biggest promotion in history (!), it's unprecedented.
I lived through the 80's Golden Era (started watching in '83 at 8yrs old), the Monday Night Wars and this wrestling malaise we've been in since 2006 or earlier, to be able to see another epochal era in wrestling, where we finally have an alternative to WWE, is exciting as hell. I don't want WWE to tank- I want them to be challenged and to compete again in the genre that their in for fucks sake. They love the "everything is competition" schtick but as much as McMahon doesn't want to say it, they are a WRESTLING company! To see WWE get better, to watch AEW grow into a real option B and see promotions like MLW, NWA & ROH stay prosperous... it'll be incredible. The days of WWF, NWA & AWA were a lot better than one company getting lazy & rich in spite of itself. Guys like MJF can finally have options about where they'll go work... it's a great time to be a wrestling fan.

    AEW See This:
You could run a heel storyline that shows just how much of a psychopath MJF is. Have him start as just a typical heel, doing his typical MJF stuff. As the weeks pass, he becomes more sadistic as his plans for his rival start to unravel. His promos start to become darker as his appearance starts to become less neat. This all reaches the end when he has a great match, and surprisingly wins over the face. This way, he can return back to his original MJF character, but a little more grizzled.

    • @bagser1

What I would do is have him take on a few of the top babyfaces in the company and have him lose more than he wins. Then, after a couple of months of frustration just have him snap and go from douchebag to stone cold psychopath. And that's your next breakout heel megastar.

I even hear Matt go back to his regular speaking voice when does interviews. He doesn’t understand Kayfade. MJF understands it.

@@screamrad218 Hardy does things in a different way. Matt Hardy looks at his aspect as a performance that is more in line with visual style and a dramatic medium bringing in magic and suspension of disbelief. MJF just LIVES his gimmick and doesn't break because it's a far more realistic person you see out there and you hate. We know MJFs out there in the real world... there are no Broken Matt's rolling around.

Some wrestlers would just never work in a creatively stifling environment like WWE. MJF is probably the best example of that type of wrestler. Been following him for a while now and I’m so happy AEW happened so he can get a good payday. Great documentary as always Kenny. Can’t believe I missed this one.

He REALLY LOVES professional wrestling, so much that he wants to keep kayfabe alive and suspend disbelief. This doco is him playing his character, pretending to be nice. An actor playing a character playing a character if you will......I love it.
