Really wonderful to watch this. An example of humans: passionated, talented, messy, complicated, contradictory, creative - and the love and loyalty of her staff - wow.
Not saying Heath is trying to be anything in particular. Obviously, its not as mass produced as say a Fiesta Ware is, but it is not as folk craft artsy as defined by Bernard Leech and others in the Mingei movement, either. It seems to be an American style that shares elements of higher commercial design with regards to the colors of the glazes and those of a studio wherein the forms take on a more utilitarian effect. Personally, I’d rather collect Otto and Vivian Heino pieces.
@@pohakumana- slip-casting is just another way, like press-moulding, to cheaply make everyday pottery. Heath employs jiggering for most of their ware from what I can see - a skill that can be learned in days, rather than the years it takes to become a proficient production-thrower.

I love my inherited Heath ceramics.

She was inspired to make durable and affordable things, and now they are expensive as fuck.
I need to sit back down at my wheel....been too long. I went to SFAI and SFSU too. Pit fires at the old brick factory in Union City.
and in the 60's I pulled some clay from the bay and threw it.

I want to learn it. Benefit me. Teach me what it takes. Tell me what I want to learn.
Bro chill
Both heavy smokers, love some of the forms, hate the cups , things get cold too fast.
It is nice, but not affordable for most people.
