83-84 are actually higher quality than the Dan Smith. The Dan Smith is worth more because it’s more like a vintage Strat, but it’s just a 70s Strat with a 4 bolt. The 83 is the about the same quality as the American Standard
Maybe some with Dan Smith expertise. I have a 1982 Strat (confirmed by serial number check, but I know because I bought it new as a teenager that year). It is the same colour as the one in the vid, but has two tone knobs and the four bolt neck that I know is a requisite feature. what other criteria to decide if it's a dan Smith or just an era? (interested to know the value. already know I love it. been my friend for 40 years. but wish I also kept my ovation breadwinner from back then, if only for the Partridge Family vibes)
that has got to be sold by now really liking everything about it ,and playing Hexdrix tunes makes it even better hint of some effects but still a nice guitar
I recently traded my record collection away, and one of the things I got was a 1983 Strat Standard that is almost exactly like this one. If it sounds even HALF a nice as this one, it'll be quite a treat to learn to play geetar and put it to use!

Soooooo....how much of that was effects and how much of that was just absolutely amazing tone?! Be nice to know what your using vs just clean tone. But wow what a great strat sound. No spikey highs to be heard of here!
Aaaaaawwww man that show is going to be Killer! Lemmo has got a pep in his step! I can feel it brother! That strat sounds Awesome. I love the Lemmo slide jam! That last jam sounded like an airplane taking off, Awesome!!!
They redesigned the trem system to fit from the front, nobody liked it, so it only was on that one year. That, and putting the output jack on the pickguard kinda made it look like a cheap knockoff. Still a quality made guitar, and as you can hear, still sounded great - but the PTB at Fender badly miscalculated with those ill conceived changes, fortunately they didn’t last long. Also, it’s not really a “Dan Smith” Strat(as they always mistakenly call ‘83’s on this channel) Smith designed the ‘82 Strat, which upped the quality control, and returned to the small(albeit slightly different shaped, and still keeping the large “Rollercoaster” font decal)headstock, and went back to the original 4 bolt neck - the ‘83 was a cost cutting redesign of the ‘82 made while he was still with the company.
I’m sure it doesn’t come with the Tremolo Bar. I bought an 83’ two knober and I was told the bars are impossible to find if not provided with the guitar
Not a Dan Smith Strat. This was Fender's "standard Strat" after they nixed the design Dan intended to become the standard after he left Yamaha for Fender. This one has a single-layer pick guard, one tone control, a 3-bolt neck and that ridiculous flush-mounted output jack. Everything on detail Dan's original Fender Strat was head and shoulders above this one, which is why those authentic Smith Strats sell for 2x of what these sell for.
I wish they made more stratocasters without the boat jack, that looks 100 times better. Also... Correct me of i'm wrong, but there's no Guitar of the Day for Godzilla.
That's not a (Dan) Smith strat, Dan Smith wanted to increase quality and added the 4 bolt neck made a few changes, but his ideas didn't quite work so well economically. So Fender went in the exact opposite direction with their "two knob strat" So even though Smith may have still been with Fender, this econo model was a slap in the face to his ideals. Electronics were the same and tone was close but not quite as good
I think that’s one of the things that Smith did to cut cost on the guitar. Plus the loss of one tone control, loss of the standard strat jack, and the single ply pick guard.
“Off yellow”? Either it is or it’s not. Lol I’d say it’s more like a rancid butter colour. YOU…make that guitar beautiful with your talent. Most of it anyway. Too much “soup” on some parts.
Yeah this isn't a Dan Smith Strat. It's a Dan Smith Era Strat, they certainly weren't Dan Smith's in 1983 and I don't think Dan Smith's were 2 knobs. That said, I have a 1982 Dan Smith Era Strat for sale in the UK if anyone wants one! I just can't demo it like Lemmo does!
all the other guitars in the back ground are like WOW!!! HOLY MOLY!!!
I owned one of these back in the 80's. I really miss it now .
Question. When Michael demos a maple neck guitar and does his fret board pyrotechnics, does the neck become roasted maple? Go ahead....groan.
I did sir, and then I realized it’s a valid point!
One of my favorite demos. Really cool guitar and really gorgeous playing. ❤️
yellow strats will always have my heart
The Wizard Lemmo, best guitarist in the WORLD......👍👌👌
It's not a Dan Smith Strat, but a Smith-Era Strat. Huge difference in price.
A bit disappointed that Lemmo didn't know that. But hey, great guitar all the same.
And not an 83 either.....
Who?
83-84 are actually higher quality than the Dan Smith. The Dan Smith is worth more because it’s more like a vintage Strat, but it’s just a 70s Strat with a 4 bolt. The 83 is the about the same quality as the American Standard

Michael is the best hybrid picker ever!
I recently traded my record collection away, and one of the things I got was a 1983 Strat Standard that is almost exactly like this one. If it sounds even HALF a nice as this one, it'll be quite a treat to learn to play geetar and put it to use!
Beautiful tone and playing
Awesome color and sounds awesome
Man that is some lovely playing.
Neck Pickup on a Dan Smith is just magic… I love mine
Sounds like it was last tuned in 1983 also ;)
If there isn't light when no one sees

It's the sign of the southern cross
All right
Sail away
To the sign
Oh
From the book, the word is spoken
Whispers from forgotten psalms
Gather all around the young ones
They will make us strong
Reach above your dreams of pleasure
Giving life to those who died
Look beyond your own horizons
Sail the ship of signs

Beautiful sound and great playing! Thank You Michael.
top loader strat...I owned one and they're sweet.
That was a great Straturday, in the zone today 🎸🇨🇦
I have to ask, what does he play during these demos? Are they covers or his own material because the dude kills it everytimeeeee
Wow. Great guitar. It just has the right stuff.
Playing on fire as always!!!
Love these guitars! Best Strats
What was the first tune? I think I shed a tear. Amazing playing as always.
im trying to find out too lmaoo
I can't find it either
His own tune I think
Soundin’ like Michael Hampton on the neck pickup, whew! Beautiful guitar, beautiful playing 🤘🏿
It's always such a joy to watch him play and especially when he goes for Hendrix
If you were blind youd know that was a Strat with a maple neckboard. Love that thing!!!
Maple with yellow tint sounds best 😁
I have nothing to say it's awesome that color, sound everything looks perfect
I have this guitar and a sunburst they are very cool and sound awesome mine is mint
Soooooo....how much of that was effects and how much of that was just absolutely amazing tone?! Be nice to know what your using vs just clean tone. But wow what a great strat sound. No spikey highs to be heard of here!
I’ve got basically this same guitar. Have had it since 84. That’s what it sounds like.
12" fret board radius. Master Tone and Master Volume. That was simplicity like a Tele. Why was there really a need for a second tone control?
My god that strat sounds amazing, sweet sound without the ear shrieking punch that I don’t like about some I’m the bridge
Oh hell ya. That was amazing.
Love the T shirt!
what was the first song Lemmo played?
“Star fleet to Scout Ship, can you please give your position over?”🚀🪐
Love these guitars
Aaaaaawwww man that show is going to be Killer! Lemmo has got a pep in his step! I can feel it brother! That strat sounds Awesome. I love the Lemmo slide jam! That last jam sounded like an airplane taking off, Awesome!!!
That first thing is really pretty. If it's yours, I hope you develop it.
Good guitar, good play.
Man that sounds great Lemmo !!! Well done brother !! Thanks Jen !!! 😎🎸🎶🎶👍💯💥
L-E-M-M-O IS G-O-D
🤘🏻 on Michael.
As Gregg "the bass playa" said "This is in a happy color"
i had the chance to play one of those dan smiths and my god its amazing
Beautiful guitar, marvelous tone for days. It has tremolo bar? The back looks solid. Where are the springs. Another great Straterday Michael!!!
They redesigned the trem system to fit from the front, nobody liked it, so it only was on that one year. That, and putting the output jack on the pickguard kinda made it look like a cheap knockoff. @@artamussumatra6286 -- Dan Smith "was still with the company" well into the current century, so that's a pretty long "era."
Dude 🎸😎
Love your vids 🎶 🎥
Look forward to your reviews!! We’re talkin, Staple diet 🎵 🎶
Thank you for the music &
Good luck w the Gig 🤘✌️
Great sounding strat..
Some parts around 9:15 reminded me of Steve Vai. Good going
Very nice!
I have one….the neck feels like a tele that someone flattened. So thin …never played another guitar like it
Great sound and playing!!!! What song is that first progression you are playing from? Thanks
What kind of bridge with no back route
f-ng Lemmo, killin it again!!
Man that strat got tone for days. That 1st run, man those big chords were sexy a.f.!
The first guitar i bought all on my own was a 1984 Dan Smith black lefty strat. Worst trem ever, but i wish i still had that guitar!!
I liked it
another 24 i'm feeling special that's my birthday in November
such a cool looking strat. honey mustard yellow 🤘
Anyone know the first song? And the last song? If they’re originals then hot damn those were cool.
Agreed. First song was great.
Aku juga punya gitar Dan smith era 83 seperti oasis
What is the first song he played?
I’m sure it doesn’t come with the Tremolo Bar. I bought an 83’ two knober and I was told the bars are impossible to find if not provided with the guitar
Wow... again...
do you guys know where to source a tremolo for one of these?
Stock pickups?
love lemmo! such a cool cat and i’m sorry but better than mark agnesi the tool. from playing to personality, lemmo is the best!
Greay guy and player but he realy needs to educate himself about the early 80's Strats. ;-)
is this guitar at Custom Shop level?
Those early post CBS Corona products were sometimes very good.
Amazing..What is the song at the 9 minute mark?
It's a cover of Third Stone from the Sun
Great tones- wonder what modulation effect you were using throughout? Sounded great.
It sounds like both phaser and flanger. Not sure which pedal it is though.
What was the 1st song, Jimi vibe, but I don't recognize it. If that's an original it's damn good.
Was wondering the same! Hot damn it was good.
I think it’s original. The jimi vibes are the double stops and what sounds like some sort of univibe clone or a deep stereo
A toploader with that input jack You can figure all the negative things I won't say
这把琴还在吗?怎么样买到她?
if you were all in the same room blind folded playing stratocasters, you wouldn't know the difference in which one's was what"
This axe has mad frusciante vibes
Sounds great! What is the name of the first song you played?
The one before Wait until tomorrow
Not a Dan Smith Strat. This was Fender's "standard Strat" after they nixed the design Dan intended to become the standard after he left Yamaha for Fender. Ground sounding Strat. Too bad we couldn't hear that trem work.
Have we got hendrix permission now?
I believe we do. Someone in the Hendrix family recently passed but it was a guy not the step sister. Maybe they sold of rights to bury a loved one ✌
Never seen a bridge like that... what's the deal?
Još da imam Fendera vidiJo bi svirkeeee
Such a great way to end a week! A nice strat from an awesome era! However! Gotta do a Maton!
That's not a (Dan) Smith strat, Dan Smith wanted to increase quality and added the 4 bolt neck made a few changes, but his ideas didn't quite work so well economically. Anyone else think it is odd to see a top loader with the tremolo bar?
I think that’s one of the things that Smith did to cut cost on the guitar. Plus the loss of one tone control, loss of the standard strat jack, and the single ply pick guard.
Cost saving strat
WIZARD
1983 revised Standard Stratocaster- not a Dan Smith
12” radius not 9.5, aimed at the shredders, lousy trem design. Sounds nice though and superb playing!
Do a Tom Delonge strat the value is skyrocketing and i have one 😎
Hard tail
Disappointed you didn't use tremelo bar and drop those bad boys down like Eddie did!!
E-A-G-L-E-S, EAGLES!!
Two in a row; nowhere to be seen or found on Reverb or website...
Antique white
I bought mine in 1989 and still can't play very well.
As soulagent said, not THE real Dan Smith!
