It's not a Dan Smith Strat, but a Smith-Era Strat. Huge difference in price.
A bit disappointed that Lemmo didn't know that. But hey, great guitar all the same.

Who?
83-84 are actually higher quality than the Dan Smith. The Dan Smith is worth more because it’s more like a vintage Strat, but it’s just a 70s Strat with a 4 bolt. The 83 is the about the same quality as the American Standard
Maybe some with Dan Smith expertise. I have a 1982 Strat (confirmed by serial number check, but I know because I bought it new as a teenager that year). It is the same colour as the one in the vid, but has two tone knobs and the four bolt neck that I know is a requisite feature. what other criteria to decide if it's a dan Smith or just an era? (interested to know the value. already know I love it. been my friend for 40 years. but wish I also kept my ovation breadwinner from back then, if only for the Partridge Family vibes)
that has got to be sold by now really liking everything about it ,and playing Hexdrix tunes makes it even better hint of some effects but still a nice guitar
I recently traded my record collection away, and one of the things I got was a 1983 Strat Standard that is almost exactly like this one. If it sounds even HALF a nice as this one, it'll be quite a treat to learn to play geetar and put it to use!
It's always such a joy to watch him play and especially when he goes for Hendrix

Soooooo....how much of that was effects and how much of that was just absolutely amazing tone?! Be nice to know what your using vs just clean tone. But wow what a great strat sound. No spikey highs to be heard of here!
I’ve got basically this same guitar. Have had it since 84. That’s what it sounds like.
My god that strat sounds amazing, sweet sound without the ear shrieking punch that I don’t like about some I’m the bridge
top loader strat...I owned one and they're sweet.

Got my ‘83 back in the early 00’s for price of a squier. Loved the neck, hated the bridge system so now the body and pick ups and bar hang on the wall in my studio in case I want to restore it factory, but I used the neck (the reason I bought the guitar was my friend had an ‘84 3 knob standard that neck turned me on to it in the first place not being a ‘strat guy’) to build out my own custom strat.
Man that strat got tone for days. That 1st run, man those big chords were sexy a.f.!
12" fret board radius. Master Tone and Master Volume. That was simplicity like a Tele. Why was there really a need for a second tone control?
That first thing is really pretty. If it's yours, I hope you develop it.

Beautiful guitar, marvelous tone for days. It has tremolo bar? The back looks solid. Where are the springs. Another great Straterday Michael!!!
They redesigned the trem system to fit from the front, nobody liked it, so it only was on that one year. That, and putting the output jack on the pickguard kinda made it look like a cheap knockoff. Still a quality made guitar, and as you can hear, still sounded great - but the PTB at Fender badly miscalculated with those ill conceived changes, fortunately they didn’t last long.
Also, it’s not really a “Dan Smith” Strat(as they always mistakenly call ‘83’s on this channel) Smith designed the ‘82 Strat, which upped the quality control, and returned to the small(albeit slightly different shaped, and still keeping the large “Rollercoaster” font decal)headstock, and went back to the original 4 bolt neck - the ‘83 was a cost cutting redesign of the ‘82 made while he was still with the company.
@@artamussumatra6286 -- Dan Smith "was still with the company" well into the current century, so that's a pretty long "era."

Greay guy and player but he realy needs to educate himself about the early 80's Strats. ;-)
Not a Dan Smith Strat. This was Fender's "standard Strat" after they nixed the design Dan intended to become the standard after he left Yamaha for Fender. This one has a single-layer pick guard, one tone control, a 3-bolt neck and that ridiculous flush-mounted output jack. Everything on detail Dan's original Fender Strat was head and shoulders above this one, which is why those authentic Smith Strats sell for 2x of what these sell for.

That's not a (Dan) Smith strat, Dan Smith wanted to increase quality and added the 4 bolt neck made a few changes, but his ideas didn't quite work so well economically. So Fender went in the exact opposite direction with their "two knob strat" So even though Smith may have still been with Fender, this econo model was a slap in the face to his ideals. Electronics were the same and tone was close but not quite as good
Great tones- wonder what modulation effect you were using throughout? Sounded great.
It sounds like both phaser and flanger. Not sure which pedal it is though.

I think that’s one of the things that Smith did to cut cost on the guitar. Plus the loss of one tone control, loss of the standard strat jack, and the single ply pick guard.

I believe we do. Someone in the Hendrix family recently passed but it was a guy not the step sister. Maybe they sold of rights to bury a loved one ✌

Yeah this isn't a Dan Smith Strat. It's a Dan Smith Era Strat, they certainly weren't Dan Smith's in 1983 and I don't think Dan Smith's were 2 knobs. That said, I have a 1982 Dan Smith Era Strat for sale in the UK if anyone wants one! I just can't demo it like Lemmo does!
