+THE AJREVIEW The entire movie is a sin LOL but waiting for this one as well. I'm waiting for YourMovieSuck review too, and for the Honest Trailer. This is gonna be so awsome
This movie is actually a very entertaining movie when I watched the trailer I thought this was going to be the most boring movie ever, but I was wrong this movie isn't a bad movie and those channels that make fun of movies, well I bet they couldn't make a better movie themselves so they really should shut up.
+Ali Nagori THAT WOULD BE KIND OF AWESOME. IDRIS ELBA, ANGELA BASSET, HALLE BARRY, NATE PARKER, WESLEY SNIPES AND OF COURSE OUR KING SAMUEL. MAYBE BEOWULF OR THE STORY OF THE RHEINEGOLD.
E Jorge So cultural conversion is equivalent with ethnic replacement in your mind? The Arabian peninsula was never and is still not as populous as the Nile river so the only way for the Arabians to ethnically replace the Egyptians would be for their entire population to migrate out of their peninsula and even then the Egyptians would have massively outnumbered them.
Okay, you don't like to read, so i will give you a basic example. Have you ever been to Australia? What is percentage of Indigenous Australians in Australia? They are only 3% of the population. Out of 25 million australians, the indigenous represent only 3%. Most were killed, others were sold to many Asian countries and things like. How do we know that they were/are native to Australia? Because this happened very recently. If it happened at the same time as the Arab invasion, right now we would be fighting about who are the real native people to Australia. PS: You can apply the same example to native americans.
As someone who is actually Egyptian, I find the amount of outrage in the western media over this movie very entertaining. What are they going to do - go get a bunch of foreign actors? It's rather silly. No one in Egypt felt that they should be outraged when Adel Emam played an American man. But when Gerard Butler plays an Egyptian man it is somehow a problem! Go figure.
I actually really enjoyed Gods of Egypt. After all, this is an alternate reality, in which gods walked among men, so who cares about real life accuracy, am I right?
you do not speak for majority of egyptians and please stop d*ck riding the whites for approval… it’s overall a great movie, but people have the right to ask for representation. geez
to be fair tho, these same people who think this movie is okay are the one who are crying about black actors play fantasy characters like mermaids and elves. But sure, lets give white people a pass again.
@@melissajones__ Gods of Egypt is a forgettable action film as seen on Awful Movies Wiki, I hated this film because the characters are forgettable, overuse of CGI, weak direction by the same director as decent flicks (The Crow, I, Robot, Knowing), and Egyptian inaccuracies.
It’s gotten bad reviews from critics but I thoroughly enjoyed this movie! It seems like fans LOVED it and critics hated it. The special effects were awesome, the story was intriguing….anyone who’s into this type of fantasy stuff will love this flick. Highly recommend!
+Sheena Medel But we have skeletons of ancient Egyptians (early dynasties). They're caucasian. They often have blonde or red hair. You have no idea what you're talking about.
+The Resistant I assure you sir/ma'am that I am perfectly awake. I never said anything about him being a hero or not. I just chose an important and charismatic person, who's not caucasian, to accentuate the fact that they would totally ignore his origins and portray him as a blonde and blue eyed guy. I didn't mean to touch any historical fact nor pretend to be a critic, like you've exactly done with this comment. Peace and love
+hughtub I was talking in general and took the first people I thought to be perfect for a comparison. I'm not Egyptian, but you can't deny the fact that recently, with this kind of movies, they've been avoiding to choose the right characters who fit in with all the story. If I were Pagan, I'd be offended if my Gods, whose origin isn't caucasian, were portrayed by white people, let alone the fact that in the trailer, there's no single Egyptian who has a lead role.
+Jay Felicia Don't think there is a single American in the cast, actually. Gerard Butler is Scottish, Elodie Yung is French/Vietnamese, Brendan Thwaite and Geoffrey Rush are Aussies, etc. etc. The director is an Egyptian-born Australian.
+Lazy Jacques Oh wait, the actor who plays Thoth (Chadwick Boseman), and the only person of color in the movie, is American. His British accent is quite hilarious - it's a good thing he did such a good job with his character, so he actually pulls it off. Oh, and Nicolai Coster-Waldau is Danish.
A. Why is King Leonidas fighting Jamie Lannister? B. What's the point of hiring actors to make a movie that looks 95% CGI if your name's not James Cameron? C. Why is this movie called, "Gods of Egypt" and yet looks whiter than a Mount Everest avalanche? D. What's with the accents? Does Hollywood realize it is possible to speak English with an accent that isn't British, Scottish, or Australian? E. How much pot would be required to convince someone that seeing this white-washed garbage would be a good idea?
This is not really ancient Egypt! This movie is set in a world that never really existed. It is inspired by Egyptian mythology, but it makes no attempt at historical accuracy because that would be pointless.
+ryann45 they should do somthing like the game Age of Mythology where they just pit all mythological creatures in a war, Thad be awesome. reason why I like this though is Egyptian mythology is rarely depicted in movies or games.
Ancient Egyptians were neither Black nor white. This black vs white dichotomy and political propoganda may work in america but it doesn't work for Egyptians.
The nephilm are white Seth the third fallen son of Adam lived for 800 y became a watcher and fell. And the one eyed liar the Antichrist also known as Abbadon, they enslaved humanity so there you go you have two fallen angels "gods" that battle each other for their human slaves.Trust in the Godhead, Christ and the Holy Spirit.
Ignorant to the highest order. Ancient Egyptians were black, Nubian blacks. it was called Kemet and yes they were all blacks before Assyrians(Arabs) invaded Kemet/Egypt 600BC. what do you guys know about meroe city or Napata city? Kush civilization predated even Kemet civilazition. Ofcourse am African i got Ourstory you guys have History
Mbugua Pa who fucking cares what color they were. you ppl are the only ppl I ever see who make a big deal about skin color. most racist assholes I've ever seen in this country.
+aaron van de lagemaat I enjoyed watching it too. The low rating made me hesitate, but since there was nothing better at the theater so... The low ratings must be from all the haters.
+danny here yes we are but whites were never a majority especially back then like what this movie indicates, in fact if you did the same thing with a European Story it would not be fair so imagine it being a North East African one. Egypt was not the small country it is now, it stretched all the way down to Ethiopia so blacks were definitely a majority back then despite what people think.
+We Were Once Kings next they will cast a white guy to play as Michael Jordan lol. it's like 3000 years from now the nba was all tall people who were white lol. if you ask a white guy what is common in the nba he says theya re all tall, anything else, nope. I think it bothers whites to point out the skin color of anyone who is doing anything remarkable. they won't hesitate to point out the color of a black shoplifter. they are happy to paint blacks as negative.
find your comment Tethloach1 be careful as us Egyptians live by the stories of our ancestors so the whites would find your comment quite harsh, not that it's incorrect quite the contrary :D Egypt was once upon a time the centre of the world so a lot did migrate there for many reasons whether it was search of a better life or to conquer but mostly to take over, and most of the conquering and lands being stripped was in the north where you do find many whites now, the further you go south the more blacks you find. So I guess the wars over the years have effected the race in that area dramatically.
Way better than I thought it would be. It is the closest thing to recapturing the spirit of classic movies like "Clash of the Titans," "Jason and the Argonauts," and "7th Voyage of Sinbad" that I've ever seen. Went in thinking it would be a so bad it's good, but it's awesome. This and John Carter of Mars were unfairly panned.
+Mohammed Rached The Beja tribe for example are not Sudanese. The Sudanese Egyptians came one hundred years ago. But black Egyptians have always existed. Even some of the light skinned Egyptians have afro hair. You can look at Amenhotep the third tomb and see what he looks like.
The Coptic Egyptians (the ones there before the Arab invasions) are the same race as the Greeks. Both are Mediterranean. Only the southernmost parts of Egypt had Nubians or Ethiopians, who were akin to our modern Blacks.
Just finished the movie, And i have to say, I thoroughly enjoyed it, Its one of the very few REAL adventure movies, I dont give to shits if they didnt use real egyptians and had white and black cast members, I simply enjoyed the movie, Loved the adventure and the action, I honestly cannot see why the reviews were bad, I thought it was quite excellent, I thought they played out the mythology behind the deitys was pretty cool. And yet people are bitching about historically accurate and the heritage of the people when its a movies about Gods? LOLOL, Either way, i really enjoyed it and will watch again.
***** Google the bust of Nefertiti. Google Prince Rahotep and his wife Nofret. If you're still trying to claim the original Egyptians were not black, you are full of shit. Look at all the images the people made of themselves. They were a group of "black" people and came in many colors. They were not as dark as the Nubians, but they were so called "black" people. The decedents of the Nubians are the south Sudanese, and they are some of the darkest black people in existence, so to say the Nubians were black, but the Egyptians were something else would be dishonest, but then again, I dont expect too much honesty from certain people.
Sick of seeing hollywood rewrite history. First they had Christian Bale play Moses now you have Gerard Butler playing the King of Egypt in an upcoming movie. That's like me getting Angela Bassett to play the Queen of England or Wesley Snipes to play the role of Sir Isaac Newton. The fuckery in hollywood is real
Wermhats Wormhat Wow........so you're gonna start berating people because they don't agree with you now, huh? I'm done. You must be a child, since you don't know how to have a civil debate without name calling and disrespecting people.
What are you talking about? Black people go ballistic every time an Egypt movies comes out and it has white people. It's completely the other way around. No one cares when white characters from movies are remade with black actors, only a select few point out the lack of controversy, and the black supremacist hypocrisy. So, either you're a white guilt libtard, a troll, or a black supremacists, which is it?
+Dan Smith They're both the same shit. Trust me, I've read the comments of an article suggesting that Idris Elba should play Bond. People bitch about it in both cases.
+Tomáš Vilím You mean the same History class that told us Lincoln freed the slaves and Columbus discovered the new world (which happened to have millions of people living there)?
Obsidian SeventyOne Well, Lincoln was not the first one, but the first one that brought it to public and about Columbus... he was not the first one, but the first one in European upswing, so what I basically mean is yes.
So you think that Africa = black people? That is like saying that Asia = asian people. All those ancient nations around mediterranean sea were caucasian white people. They had skin like Italians or Greeks. Just look at the old sculptures of Pharaohs. They all have white traits. That is because THEY WERE WHITE.
It's not that the movie it self sucks, it's just how they made the movie that sucks. Like for example, how they used white people to play as Egyptians.
***** That's not the problem, using Egyptians actors would of been a much better choice, if you wanna make a movie about Egypt, use the accurate race. Instead of using of white americans , thus making it sort of rasict.
+AngelFany 16 They are in the trailer you just watched. The Egyptians were not black, they were closer to Caucasians. This is science it has nothing to do with politics.
+Lelu Shae Lol no you need to do more research. I seen no Egyptians at all. Hmmm did you see anyone with color on their skin? Those Gods not even the right skin color wtf. White America love appropriating other ppl culture but get pissed off when a black guy have a lead role in Star Wars, a fictional made up story that have no historical meaning at all (besides being a great movie). Just like how they appropriate Jesus in every movie, knowing that the bible describe him of looking like a black man. Let that sink in. You probably just keep denying the truth.
Alright, my analysis of the comments is done! 80% complaining about the cast, 5% complaining about the CGI, 5% calling it bad for no reason, and 5% wondering why everyone hates it so much. Pretty intense stuff.
+William Villasboa If they put it in trailer, That part is much finished. No production will put unfinished and not look best cut into the trailer. Especially when they try to sell CG. They just show the best CG they have. There maybe some circumstance that they have to rush and put the unpolished version into trailer. But if that really happen, The production and marketing division are having problem working together. And final result are damn to be imperfect. IMO They're not meant to be realistic. They try to be artistic and surreal. But sure I'll call it suck because surreal still need to be believable. The rendering is look OK but animation is ruining everything. Even they are bi-pedal humanoid with a little inhuman proportion, The Avatar and Planet of the Apes was done better than this years ago. So people will expect something equal or better than that, Otherwise they will say it suck.
Putting mascara on while people doesn't make them look like Egyptian, they look like middle earth people. Why don't you just named them brandon and becky
+Irun Mon how about casting a black woman for the role of the queen of england.. oh..right..that's empowerment or enrichment or whatever you SJWs like to call it..
they already did that in thor with heimdall and several other originaly *_white_* mythologie characters and no one complains here, but replace a originaly black character with a white one and all hell breaks lose.
The fact that a fantastic actor like Gerard Butler was in this movie truly hurts my soul. I tried watching for him, but it was just too painful, I couldn't.
+Jeremy Clyde Bad script writing, cheesy acting, console-quality CGI...the whole thing looks like a computer game. I'd like to be proven wrong because the premise of the story interests me, but usually when the trailer sucks then the film itself REALLY sucks. If I remember, I'll reply back to you after I've seen it
+Jeremy Clyde Just because I can't animate or write to a Hollywood standard, doesn't mean I'm not allowed an opinion on it. Yes, I think the CGI doesn't look as good as most blockbusters these days, and the writing is cheesy. Consoles don't need to render cutscenes in real time so that point is moot. Apart from 300, Gerard Butler isn't exactly famous for his impressive body of work. As for shooting me, that's a bit extreme. Maybe you shouldn't read the comments section if you can't handle other peoples' opinions.
spacelevator2020 Well I'm Middle Eastern not European white, and I think more Middle Eastern looking actors would have fit the roles much better! That way I'm not as distracted when I watch the movie. I want to be so immersed in the story that I forget I'm watching people acting. That's why, for me, casting matters here.
Jen P That is only a hypothesis, and this issue is still debated among the research community. I for one certainly can't know for sure. If I had to guess, I'd say they were somewhat dark-skinned but not sub-Saharan black.
I liker Gerard Butler, and I like the concept. The supporting actor could have been stronger but meh. Although I don't remember the Egyptians being so pale.
Genetic studies prove that the Egyptians were similar to the Europeans, there was never any black pharaoh, you Americans and Africans have serious problems related to ignorance
SO in africa there were people who were Swedish and Irish? Even though the paprus of hunefer written by the Egyptians states that THEY CAME FROM inner AFRICA....Yeah I choose to believe what the actual Egyptians wrote ABOUT THEMSELVES....
+spacelevator2020 black people with red and blond hair DO exist you know Egyptians were African, dark-skinned, and no Egyptian was white unless they were a slave or traveler from European regions
StevieGreek Alithinos Exactly they we have the biggest set of phenotypes in the world....And there are africans with red and blonde hair.....Egypt was a african civilization and black africans where the majority...a white skin Egyptian would look like Stephen Curry of the NBA...The darkest would be Michael Jordan and in the middle would be KOBE Bryant....All diffrent colors but still african
I just watched the film now after reading all these negative reviews, this is the BEST FANTASTIC movie i ever watched, a solid 9/10 { THE REVIEWS ARE BAD BECAUSE PEOPLE HATES THIS FILM FOR WHITE CAST (no real Egyptian cast) } ignore it and enjoy the movie

+fuckakakaka you missing the point. do you know anything about Egypt ? it's like making a movie about Buddha and played by denzel . you think the Asian community would be happy?
DAEMON33 characters like Merlin and Lancelot are iconic in English culture who go back nearly 1000 years into English culture Heimdall is also a god in Norse mythology i don't see how they're less important to the people hell maybe more important seeing how modern Egyptian descendants are a lot more disconnected to their ancestors than the English and Scandinavian.
+LittleClarinetPlayer Ofcourse it looks so cheap. You cant run a whole movie with only CGI. This looks terrible due to overuse of it. Just like the Prequels it has a cartoonish ridiculous look even now.
+Геннадий Даценко and maybe its rushed out.. if they spend over 100mil to make this, they could have used a better cgi production house, maybe weta digital or lucas cgi department

@Coryphaeus It's like if people complained that the cast of _Black Panther_ wasn't actually from Wakanda; Wakanda *doesn't exist!* And neither does the world this movie takes place in.
@Coryphaeus I'm saying that historically accurate casting for this particular movie is pointless. In general, historical accuracy is definitely not pointless.
didn't know youtube have auto comment filter now :v, from my view some comments are just unreasonably be removed, apologies for any removed comments ok? dunno how to restore :v
+Aloha Snackbar No they weren't. Egypt was conquered by muslims hence why its mostly middle eastern today. Ancient Egyptians were olive tan to dark brown in color.
+apothe6 If you're Caucasian American, your ancestors are from North / Western Europe. Egyptians should at least look Arab-African and / or Black African. I guess the film producers never looked at hieroglyphics. Where's the wigs? lol
Original egyptians originated from the horn of Africa... And the Land of Punt.. I don't recall any of these places being anywhere near Europe lmao Thats like having a japanese cast as egyptians lmao hollywood
Even if they were form the horn of africa, u are just saying they were caucasoid dude, that before the negroid expansion from the gulf of guinea , you can check out the genetic origin of the horn of africa lol
+henrique pires Caucausoid or not - we are still black by skin tone. Black people come in all shapes and forms but the skin tone remains same. Some of us seem caucasoid, others seem east-asian looking (like the khoisan). But we are still black and categorised as black people. They should made the cast easf african or at least gave them an african makeup lol
+Lol lel I don't recall Punt being famous for anything either. Why did the originators of Egypt only achieve a noteworthy civilisation when they reached the Mediterranean? If they originated in Punt then I'd expect a comparable level of civilisation there and there isn't, nor did any of the neighbouring nations achieve anything without outside influence such as the arabs.
Lol lel There is no comparable civilisation in the Horn of Africa or even the adjacent Arabian peninsula. Civilisations do have humble beginnings, but they expand from where they began.
Honestly this movie is sick, if you are even slightly interested in watching it do it. I don't know why the ratings are so low but I'm glad I watched it. So underrated.
The character design and animation for the gods and demi-gods was really cool! And the subtle differences between man and god such as height, gold blood, "magic/wisdom/etc." and badass metal forms are very amazing ideas that blend great together and the idea that even gods die is very interesting and might represent change is just a part of life! I really love how they made the "godly" form coenside with the Egyptian descriptions and that not all of them transformed the same way or not at all is very creative. The journey and plot are really well planned and simple but not too simple. The civilization design and incorporation of religous beleifs/descriptons are original with a hint of moderncy. The personalities in the characters were very well acted and showing that even gods can have faults is really cool. I just really liked it a lot! lol
People really need to calm down about the white actors and british accents, it's a *fantasy adventure* movie. Like I don't mean to startle you, but pharaoh's also didn't have the ability to turn into armored flying gods and ride giant snakes.
KneeGrowz10 Yes, and Gods of Egypt is clearly showing an accurate representation of Egyptian History and mythology so it's unacceptable in this context.
+Adam Gold am a pure Egyptian and have white skin, hazel eyes and brown hair, if your Afrocentric pride is hurt go watch discovery channel or animal channel it's more appropriate for your culture ده الولد عبيط والله ، اي التخلف دي هههه
If you like fantasy type movie's then this is an awesome watch. I can honestly say I was glued to this the whole way through. Great storyline, Great acting, Great effects 9/10
+ITI This is the kind of film that you can agree the actors chose, just to get paid. We've seen some pretty awful movies, but can you imagine actually helping make them? The high compensation is worth it for working on films such as this.
it's a movie relax. I rather see good actors not crap ones. I wouldn't mind seeing Will Smith or Denzel Washington play a Greek God role. I wouldn't care if a black played the role of Santa Claus. As long as it's good I don't mind.
NTYo It's also the fact that the acting was terrible, the EGYPTIANS had European accents and were bland as dry bread and sandpaper, the story was weak and the plot confused itself and the action was O.K. Hell, the chick at the beginning who the main character at the beginning that I seriously couldn't care if she died or not. That's BAD, especially if that's the main character's motivation. Also, I know the Egyptians weren't pitch black, but they definitely weren't that pale either. They're seriously trying to convince that the hottest continent on the earth, in ancient times, where people would've developed more melanin in their skin, has pale skin and english accents. It deserves it's rating.
Not to sound whiny (but i guess it will) but there are too many whites playing Egyptians. Its 2015...there are black and brown actors out there and people know what Egyptians looked like now. I know how it sounds... i truly do... but imagine if they made a norse gods movie or if the show vikings had an all black and brown cast (kinda sounds awesome lol) but people would shit their pants. you can still have a movie with a white main actor and have the rest at least kinda look ethnic they did it in the mummy and it worked well. Anyway that was my 2 cents. Rant over
+Frandysworld there are two marvel movies with norse mtyhology in them and you have a black man playing a major Norse figure Idris alba plays heimdall. Now how silly would white people look complaining about a FICTIONAL movie. Well..thats exactly how silly you dumbass niggas look right now, complaining about a FICTIONAL movie
yeah thats the typical hollywood thing to do now swap ethnicities of some major characters but its not like thor and all asgardians are black. Gods of egypt thats the case they are 90% white and a few seem ethnic. its like making 300 with an all black cast except xerxes or leonidas' wife
Frandysworld Nick fure, made black Heimdall made black jhonny storm, made black Storm trooper, a black man listen im not even saying its not a valid argument. Yall are just applying it to the WRONG movie ITS FICTION...its not a real documentary or a movie based on REAL LIFE events
+Frandysworld It makes sense. Most of these movies have bombed (or from what I remember) anyway. This looks more like Gods of Rome. It's pretty difficult to deny that ancient kemet wasn't filled with people who look like the ones in the movie lol..I mean look at Queen Tiye. Her biography will probably star Jennifer Lawrence ..
Hal Jordan caucasian is WHITE, to say that only pale skin is white is nazism, i'm not fighting a lost battle, it was a battle that never started and that never needed to be fought, egyptians were and are caucasoids, which is the white ethnicity, they were not congoid nor capoid, which are the black ethnicities.
Hal Jordan white is political? this is funny, since when is my ethnicity political? i do not do this in the name of some misguided ideal of racial superiority, but only in the name of history.
the negative comments are because Egypt is in Africa and before our history was erased and or hijacked our GODS were and are BLACK not white the day of praying to whites is over blacks are waking up to fight white supremacy
No, they don't represent ancient Egyptians! At all! This movie is set in a world that never really existed. It is inspired by Egyptian mythology, but it makes no attempt at historical accuracy because that would be pointless. The story may be based on the myths of ancient Egypt, but it's not really ancient Egypt. So, there's no need to cast Egyptian actors.
ZukoHalliwell I get what you are saying but they are using Egyptian gods, like actually saying the names of Egyptian gods. So it doesn’t matter if the world is fictional and the story is not real, the characters used are real Egyptian gods. And none of the the characters, especially the ones who played the god, were Egyptian. That is why people are mad. It’s an insult to their religion and culture. I get that you just want to watch a movie without all the race bull crap but if you were an Egyptian and you saw the very inaccurate depictions of your gods in movies everywhere you would probably be a little upset
Poor Jaime Lannister, he loses his hand and now he loses his eyes, the man can't get a break
US! 😂😂lmfao
At least he had a golden armor... LOL. 😂
"hehe good one" smh
But he still gets to keep Cersei !
That horus is morning star
Jamie Lannister cannot catch a break. First he loses his hand, now his eyes? What next?
+Arrow In Eye Looks like he lost his balls too, playing in a movie with such an evidently horrible script when we all know he's capable of great acting.
Sam Poncho I imagine he signed on to it before reading the script. Because if he read the script and still took that role, he's simply lost his mind.
Lol yeah either way I'm just kidding, you gotta pay your bills somehow, and its on us if we pay to see a movie that looks this bad from the onset
+Arrow In Eye On the bright side - unlike Sean Bean he doesn't die in every film he makes.
+Arrow In Eye Oooh I kept thinking where have I seen him before! lol
Because having an Egyptian playing an Egyptian is near impossible for Hollywood.
only one I have seen so far is ahkmenrah in the movie 'night at the museum' played by an egyptian actor rami malek
+Bilal B Impossible to be a blockbuster. Unless it becomes viral and everyone supports the film. Which rarely happens. Let's face it, hollywood just listens to the viewers. If white cast = more viewers then there's no harm in that because they need to make money too. It's not like they're trying to educate anyone anyway with this movie.

Anubis was probably my favorite part of this movie. He was really awesome for what little screentime he was given.
Since they wanna play this game, let Morgan freeman play Abraham Lincoln.
+Maiken Spuur Wrong, because they weren't, there were only Greeks and Romans trying to play Egyptians (and even all them were not white).
Maiken Spuur Sure. Here you are :

+PaulIsntWalking I want to see Morgan Freeman play Mary Todd Lincoln.
Oh CinemaSins is going to LOVE this movie.
+THE AJREVIEW
Sorry to spoil it, but this movie is actually smart and entertaining.
Not kidding, was surprised myself.
+xTacoNachox Plays MC That is like saying people shouldn't be talk louudly how Obama failed, just because they couldn't do it better
Your right m8
i would love to see a viking movie with all black actors.
+Ali Nagori THAT WOULD BE KIND OF AWESOME. IDRIS ELBA, ANGELA BASSET, HALLE BARRY, NATE PARKER, WESLEY SNIPES AND OF COURSE OUR KING SAMUEL. MAYBE BEOWULF OR THE STORY OF THE RHEINEGOLD.
+Ali Nagori Well considering the staggering amount of north africans immigrating to scandinavia, you are a lot closer than you imagine...
+Ali Nagori lol there would be SOOOOOOO much backlash/controversy before the movie comes out!....it's worth a try though
+serenityq26 and Samuel L Jackson...for the lulz
there is another old civilization for black people, kingdom of kush " Nubia"
as an egyptian i enjoy watching you guys fighting whether we are black or white and whether we belong to our ancestors or not. keep going hahaha
I'm Egyptian and black!
Do you have proof that the Ancient Egyptians were eradicated and replaced? Didn't think so...
There are a lot of proofs, go read more about the arab invasion...
A Lannister always pays his debts
As someone who is actually Egyptian, I find the amount of outrage in the western media over this movie very entertaining. What are they going to do - go get a bunch of foreign actors? It's rather silly. No one in Egypt felt that they should be outraged when Adel Emam played an American man. But when Gerard Butler plays an Egyptian man it is somehow a problem! Go figure.
I actually really enjoyed Gods of Egypt. After all, this is an alternate reality, in which gods walked among men, so who cares about real life accuracy, am I right?
I am Egyptian , (born and raised ) and i find it absurd that the cast is mostly white folks.. they couldn’t find dark/ brown-skinned actors?????
you do not speak for majority of egyptians and please stop d*ck riding the whites for approval… it’s overall a great movie, but people have the right to ask for representation. geez
to be fair tho, these same people who think this movie is okay are the one who are crying about black actors play fantasy characters like mermaids and elves.
The next Steve Jobs movie gonna star Wesley Snipes
+Ceo fresh LOL
Yep
+Ceo fresh steve jobs is actually syrian, and in the movie of him a white guy played him
+Ceo fresh We can also make Salma Hayek portray Martin Luther King :D
hey isn't a white guy playing the new Michael Jackson movie too. ok ok I suppose that's not sooooo shocking but still lol
It’s gotten bad reviews from critics but I thoroughly enjoyed this movie! It seems like fans LOVED it and critics hated it. The special effects were awesome, the story was intriguing….anyone who’s into this type of fantasy stuff will love this flick. Highly recommend!
Agreed
"THIS IS...EGYPT!!!"
+BrayOfTheDonkey LMAO
+BrayOfTheDonkey I'll be disappointed if Butler doesn't say, that or something similar, in the movie.
+Tuan Knight It's a reference to the movie 300...
+Tuan Knight No this is what you call whitewashing history. It's never just a movie.
+Jimmystarnz It's about the mythological gods of Egypt. It's not history.
So Jaime got his hand back then. but lost an eye. It's a fair trade

+Finrod “Hewer of Caves” Felagund Full Metal Alchemist kind of fair.
Finrod “Hewer of Caves” Felagund you killed me
After this I wouldn't be surprised if they did a movie of Nelson Mandela where he's portrayed by Brad Pitt.
+Sheena Medel lol they soon say Gandhi was white too
+Sheena Medel But we have skeletons of ancient Egyptians (early dynasties). They're caucasian. They often have blonde or red hair. You have no idea what you're talking about.
+Liva Amen he will be played by DiCaprio
RIP Chadwick Boseman.
Wakanda forever
A movie about Egyptian Mythology that doesn't star one Egyptian in a lead role. Wow.....I can't possibly see how THAT could go wrong, right?
Boys and Girls, can you say "White Washing?"
+Robert Moore Because Clash of the Titans starred so many Greek actors
Yeah, that's quite a noticeable problem too. Gotta wonder what Hollywood is thinking. Here I thought the only color that mattered there was Green.
That's because white people are better actors. You mad about that?
Samuel L. Jackson, Denzel Washington, and Morgan Freeman would have to disagree.
Apparently ancient Egyptians had British accents. Who knew.
and The Romans, and even the French. yeah... Americans are lazy when it comes to accents in film.
+Madison Baker and Scottish accents too
+Madison Baker because they didnt speak english...
the accents are just another way saying these are the whites people to play these roles
+Are you a wizard too? Why are you whitesplaining on so many comments go to bed and learn a little something about diversity
its funny when this film is all about Egypt and they all are american
hahahah
Have you seen The Mummy movies? Mythology movies aren't usually historically actuate
+Lazy Jacques French Cambodian NOT Vietnamese
Just remembered this movie exists, and came to watch the trailer. Movie makers should make more movies like this.
+Electricladyland1994 Go back to Africa?
+Electricladyland1994: White people make the movies = white people call the shots. Have fun trying to make your own "african Hollywood" and failing.

Where are the Egyptians?
This is not really ancient Egypt! This movie is set in a world that never really existed. It is inspired by Egyptian mythology, but it makes no attempt at historical accuracy because that would be pointless.

I am not planning to watch that, I am not from US, but, Africans / former slaves, crying on internet is funny :D

+Austin Robinson Thats because there is only one Don Cheadle
Good cast, but maybe they should have done Greek Mythology instead.
+ryann45 I agree but Greek Mythology is overused in films
Damian Carandang yeah that's true.
+Damian Carandang So true and I am an avid fan of Greek mythology and I agree with you totally.
+ryann45 they should do somthing like the game Age of Mythology where they just pit all mythological creatures in a war, Thad be awesome. reason why I like this though is Egyptian mythology is rarely depicted in movies or games.
100% agreed. Greek myths all the way
Ancient Egyptians were neither Black nor white. This black vs white dichotomy and political propoganda may work in america but it doesn't work for Egyptians.
+Mike Amina Also we need to remember where egypt is located!!
Dhalsim have family in and from Egypt they were not black nor white
Ignorant to the highest order. Ancient Egyptians were black, Nubian blacks. it was called Kemet and yes they were all blacks before Assyrians(Arabs) invaded Kemet/Egypt 600BC. what do you guys know about meroe city or Napata city? i have no reason to think otherwise. this trailer blew me away
Im gonna make Gods of China with an all black cast
are you stupid? Egyptians are caucasian and white and black you idiot
Omi Nadir your wasting time explaining. People will play dumb no matter how much logic u throw at them....watch......
+We Were Once Kings next they will cast a white guy to play as Michael Jordan lol. it's like 3000 years from now the nba was all tall people who were white lol. if you ask a white guy what is common in the nba he says theya re all tall, anything else, nope. I think it bothers whites to point out the skin color of anyone who is doing anything remarkable. they won't hesitate to point out the color of a black shoplifter. they are happy to paint blacks as negative.
find your comment Tethloach1
be careful as us Egyptians live by the stories of our ancestors so the whites would find your comment quite harsh, not that it's incorrect quite the contrary :D Egypt was once upon a time the centre of the world so a lot did migrate there for many reasons whether it was search of a better life or to conquer but mostly to take over, and most of the conquering and lands being stripped was in the north where you do find many whites now, the further you go south the more blacks you find.
This and John Carter of Mars were unfairly panned.

but egyptians were black/arab not white
+Denzel Ellis : they are now arabs but before the invasion of islam they were coptic as i recall. of course they were kinda black
wrong
+shayan sorush You still have Black Egyptians. They just don't show them. But if you go to Egypt you be surprised how many there are.
+Denzel Ellis what do you know about egyptians people ?
Uhm...this looks more like Gods of Greece than Gods of Egypt ...
The Coptic Egyptians (the ones there before the Arab invasions) are the same race as the Greeks. Both are Mediterranean. Only the southernmost parts of Egypt had Nubians or Ethiopians, who were akin to our modern Blacks.
+John Wright Pardon my lack of knowledge then.Thank you for clearing this out for me. :D

Google the bust of Nefertiti.
Wermhats Wormhat You don't get the point. They have lily white actors playing egyptians.
Wermhats Wormhat Wow........so you're gonna start berating people because they don't agree with you now, huh? I'm done. You must be a child, since you don't know how to have a civil debate without name calling and disrespecting people.
Wermhats Wormhat No. Just chastising which is even worse. I refuse to continue with one who seems to be immature. Good day, and God bless.
+damndisplace07 its all good , if the script is good and actors can act well...

White guy plays Egyptian character=No controversy
Black guy plays James Bond=Everyone loses their shit
What are you talking about? Black people go ballistic every time an Egypt movies comes out and it has white people. It's completely the other way around. No one cares when white characters from movies are remade with black actors, only a select few point out the lack of controversy, and the black supremacist hypocrisy.
So, either you're a white guilt libtard, a troll, or a black supremacists, which is it?
+Dan Smith They're both the same shit. Trust me, I've read the comments of an article suggesting that Idris Elba should play Bond. People bitch about it in both cases.

If only Egypt's ancient pantheon could help their descendants today break free from the chains they are under...
What chains?
All these commenters saying that Egyptians from ancient times were black should go right back to history class.
+Tomáš Vilím they were. Egypt is in AFRICA! I mean theyre ARE whites..... i guess a lot would be mixed. :/
So you think that Africa = black people? That is like saying that Asia = asian people. All those ancient nations around mediterranean sea were caucasian white people. They had skin like Italians or Greeks. Just look at the old sculptures of Pharaohs. They all have white traits. That is because THEY WERE WHITE.
they were MIXED. AFRICA DOES EQUAL BLACK ESPECIALLY WHEN EGYPT WAS IN ITS HAYDAY. dafug why am i arguing this?
"Hey I don't care about this, but I'm gonna be offended about it anyway".
Am I the only one who loves this movie? I watch it in 3D and its really good! 😊
It's not that the movie it self sucks, it's just how they made the movie that sucks. Like for example, how they used white people to play as Egyptians.
+Cruz1torres No one would watch it if it was acted by...I dono..brown people?
+Cruz1torres So what?!! it was good!!!!
***** That's not the problem, using Egyptians actors would of been a much better choice, if you wanna make a movie about Egypt, use the accurate race. Instead of using of white americans , thus making it sort of rasict.

I didn’t, it was kinda stale for me
Okay but...where..are the Egyptians...
+AngelFany 16 They are in the trailer you just watched. The Egyptians were not black, they were closer to Caucasians. This is science it has nothing to do with politics.
+AirSandFire Um i think you need to do a bit more research

+J.D. Norcross So, what's the last 5%?
+Detta DanceMecca Miscellaneous, I guess.
+J.D. Norcross THIS IS TRAILER, IS NOT THE FINAL PODUCT, CGI WILL EMPROVE AT THE FINAL EDITION....
The same happened in Terminator Genesys the cgi on the trailer was crap, then they polished and the result was much better
Is this one of those movies that have epic trailers but have actual movies that suck ass?
that's what most movies are now days ;(

Wow, for a movie that cost $140m, this looks shit
+cdv1qa people like you really puzzle me. how does this look like shit?
+Jeremy Clyde your argument loses all strength when you sort to "shoot people like you". Just sayin'.

That way I'm not as distracted when I watch the movie. I want to be so immersed in the story that I forget I'm watching people acting. That's why, for me, casting matters here.
+Fadi Antwan actually black, the old Egypt was black.
Jen P That is only a hypothesis, and this issue is still debated among the research community. I for one certainly can't know for sure. If I had to guess, I'd say they were somewhat dark-skinned but not sub-Saharan black.

SO in africa there were people who were Swedish and Irish? Even though the paprus of hunefer written by the Egyptians states that THEY CAME FROM inner AFRICA....Yeah I choose to believe what the actual Egyptians wrote ABOUT THEMSELVES....
+spacelevator2020 black people with red and blond hair DO exist you know
Egyptians were African, dark-skinned, and no Egyptian was white unless they were a slave or traveler from European regions
+turtlecoal word!!!
+turtlecoal YEASSSSSSSS
Where's Serious Sam when you need him?
+Sono Yeah he should make an appearance in this film at least in the end.
***** its starts playing the Sand Dune music in the background lol.
I just watched the film now after reading all these negative reviews, this is the BEST FANTASTIC movie i ever watched, a solid 9/10
{ THE REVIEWS ARE BAD BECAUSE PEOPLE HATES THIS FILM FOR WHITE CAST (no real Egyptian cast) }
ignore it and enjoy the movie
okay complete these
1-the last mohican was....
2-the last samurai was...
3-egypt gods are.....
all we need now is SHAKA ZULU movie with dicaprio as SHAKAAAA
lmao
by the way you guys could add more to my list loooll
+DAEMON33
In Once Upon a Time they also turned Merlin and Lancelot black
In Thor they turned Heimdall black
They turned Annie black
the list goes on
DAEMON33
but what i've said did happen
+fuckakakaka you missing the point. do you know anything about Egypt ? it's like making a movie about Buddha and played by denzel . you think the Asian community would be happy?
DAEMON33
characters like Merlin and Lancelot are iconic in English culture who go back nearly 1000 years into English culture
Heimdall is also a god in Norse mythology
i don't see how they're less important to the people
hell maybe more important seeing how modern Egyptian descendants are a lot more disconnected to their ancestors than the English and Scandinavian.
i see where this is going. have fun
Its all cool I guess, but CGI looks rather cheap, no?
+Геннадий Даценко Agreed, spending $140 million on budget and that's the best they got.
+Lydell Sreng Trailer CGI is normally not the completed product
Some scenes look really neat to me, and others look a little out of place. But the color scheme for this movie looks beautiful.
+LittleClarinetPlayer
Ofcourse it looks so cheap.
Scottish people are not ancient Egyptians!!
the ancient Egyptians wore kilts!!!
They're not playing ancient Egyptians.
You r right
I just watched this movie it was fantastic Fantasy war Power and true love I shed many tears for this movie
Wake up
King Leonidas vs the King Slayer *slow clap*
So... Gods of Egypt 2 coming in 2018 yeah? XD
FUCK NOOOO
well maybe we'll see Joffrey takes over the world in GoE 2, i'll go plant some tomatoes till then.
for lena headey Queen Cersei or Queen Gorgo
Cha Pamintuan yes.easier solution..threeewayyy
didn't know youtube have auto comment filter now :v, from my view some comments are just unreasonably be removed, apologies for any removed comments ok? dunno how to restore :v
If youre African American your ancestors were not Egyptian, but West African.
+apothe6 african americans think africa is a country
+Aloha Snackbar No they weren't. Egypt was conquered by muslims hence why its mostly middle eastern today. Ancient Egyptians were olive tan to dark brown in color.
+gene lou if anything, that's white people who think that
+apothe6 West Africans migrated from Egypt...example the Dogons...
I don't recall any of these places being anywhere near Europe lmao
Thats like having a japanese cast as egyptians
lmao hollywood
Even if they were form the horn of africa, u are just saying they were caucasoid dude, that before the negroid expansion from the gulf of guinea , you can check out the genetic origin of the horn of africa lol
+henrique pires Caucausoid or not - we are still black by skin tone. Black people come in all shapes and forms but the skin tone remains same. Some of us seem caucasoid, others seem east-asian looking (like the khoisan).
But we are still black and categorised as black people.
They should made the cast easf african or at least gave them an african makeup lol
+Lol lel
I don't recall Punt being famous for anything either. Why did the originators of Egypt only achieve a noteworthy civilisation when they reached the Mediterranean? If they originated in Punt then I'd expect a comparable level of civilisation there and there isn't, nor did any of the neighbouring nations achieve anything without outside influence such as the arabs.
Catubrannos Every civilization has its humble beginnings, and besides, Punt has not been discovered yet.
Lol lel
There is no comparable civilisation in the Horn of Africa or even the adjacent Arabian peninsula. Civilisations do have humble beginnings, but they expand from where they began.
Honestly this movie is sick, if you are even slightly interested in watching it do it. I don't know why the ratings are so low but I'm glad I watched it. So underrated.
people don't like Islamic countrys, even if the film plays about 5000 bc lol
svuu Because its a movie about Egypt full of white people. I'm pretty sure Egypt wasn't full of white people.
NN I disagree with you there are white egyption and black...white=70℅..in egypt
a7med zsc Stop trolling.
NN
You are right. Egypt wasn't full of white people. But about 70%
The character design and animation for the gods and demi-gods was really cool! I just really liked it a lot! lol
@alen so your little brother is not allowed to get curious?
People really need to calm down about the white actors and british accents, it's a *fantasy adventure* movie. Like I don't mean to startle you, but pharaoh's also didn't have the ability to turn into armored flying gods and ride giant snakes.
+Adam Gold I would go and see that just like I might go and see this
+Adam Gold What like how Idris Elba played Heimdall?
+CHIN CHIN There was a black Heimdall in the comics which the thor movies are based off of. In earth 10091 heimdall is black so what's your point lol.
KneeGrowz10 Yes, and Gods of Egypt is clearly showing an accurate representation of Egyptian History and mythology so it's unacceptable in this context.
+Adam Gold am a pure Egyptian and have white skin, hazel eyes and brown hair, if your Afrocentric pride is hurt go watch discovery channel or animal channel it's more appropriate for your culture
ده الولد عبيط والله ، اي التخلف دي هههه
If you like fantasy type movie's then this is an awesome watch. I can honestly say I was glued to this the whole way through. Great storyline, Great acting, Great effects 9/10
+DaggazZ I had to create a new account only to tell you that you are a complete idiot 10/10
+DaggazZ Concerning the effects, you must have watched it from a very long distance.
+DaggazZ I liked the movie very much too.
this movie was an Abomination. Save your money and don't even rent this shit. It's not even worth of thumb drive
yea u got the fantasy part right lol
This movie was sick! :D I loved the effects, chatacters, acting and story! Amazing work!
The move was corny
Wow, look at all those dark skinned Egyptian/Arab actors.
+TheAmazingJimmy Why would they be Arab? ancient egyptians weren't Arab.
+TheAmazingJimmy egyptians raned from white to black....
+JordoF6 or white
+TheAmazingJimmy I know, it's almost like those white people wouldn't be able to stand outside in the sun for ten minutes without burning to a crisp.
+Joshua Simpson smh
Imagine what if Kratos is the main character in this movie.. it would be EPIC!
Yes!!!
+Achmad Faisal OMG yes indeed
+Achmad Faisal Wasn't Kratos greek?
Gagan Ahuja :D (y)
Adonay Rocha :D INDEED!
Just got back from watching this. It's so much better than I expected.
awesome movie
Me too it was great !
very good movie!!
+Angelo Vazquez really? the reviews have been absolutely tearing into this, I've not read anything positive so far.
+Nate Fontana Saw it yesterday my wife and I really enjoyed it. Some of the action scenes would have been really cool in 3d
i just read the comments 😂
Same😭🤣
Saw this trailer before Star Wars. Cringed pretty hard.
me too
Why?
+Alex Hall No, they're Arabs
+Wesley Molt You can't be serious, Arabs didn't exist during that time, and neither did intelligent Europeans!
+ITI This is the kind of film that you can agree the actors chose, just to get paid. We've seen some pretty awful movies, but can you imagine actually helping make them? The high compensation is worth it for working on films such as this.
Tony Stark called, he wants his suits back.
You'd think after years of whitewashed cinematic failures, these directors would catch on.
+LeHappiste "Ancient Egyptians were white" white people would stand in the Egyptian sun for like ten minutes and get skin cancer.
+LeHappiste stop
+Goddrew Wiggins Italians, Greeks and Spaniards are white, so no.
+Goddrew Wiggins yes, as opposed to the "white" people standing in the middle eastern sun and being fine.
+Toxic0788 Arabs are a pan ethnic group.
Sigh guess I'll just watch Michael Jackson's remember the time
Darryl Brumfield lol
At least there's black actors in THAT.
Charles Barkley and Naomi Campbell if I'm not mistaken ^_^
@@aeonjoey3d if the movie was full of black people than the historical accuracy would have been worst than this...
@@aeonjoey3d lmfao... Magic Johnson
Lets do a Hollywood version of Greek mythology casting all African American actors. Troy starring Wesley Snipes.
+Blah Blahh And Samuel L.Jackson as Zeus...."Taste my lightning bolts Motharf**rs!!".
+EyFmS I just died.
+EyFmS 1983-2015 RIP
+Sahr Tengbeh Dont die Sahr the world needs you!!
it's a movie relax. I rather see good actors not crap ones. I wouldn't mind seeing Will Smith or Denzel Washington play a Greek God role. I wouldn't care if a black played the role of Santa Claus. As long as it's good I don't mind.
Damn the CGI looks like crap.
Yeah looks no different from clash of the Titans.
+guybeleeve Yeah looks no different from clash of clans.
+guybeleeve That my assumption to. Clash of the Titans
I totally agree.
Rushing a trailer. Happens all the time.
YU-GI-OH IT'S TIMES TO DUEL BITCHES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
+Rohollah Haidari *chooses Blue Eyed White Dragon!*
+Benjamin X wins
+Rohollah Haidari AHHHHHHHHHHHH, that's really good.
+Benjamin X *chooses Ultimate Ancient Gear Golem!*
+Abdallah Raslan I put the Dark Magician Girl
Most underrated movie ever!!! Loved every minute of it!! How the f.... did this movie get such a low IMDB score?? Seriously?? wtf!
Just Ignore them if you loved every minute of it >>u can put your score as u like
QueenOfStamford it's terrible
great sarcasm
Racism, just because they saw that the gods were american or European actors, they just give it a low rating, i would give it 10/10
NTYo
It's also the fact that the acting was terrible, the EGYPTIANS had European accents and were bland as dry bread and sandpaper, the story was weak and the plot confused itself and the action was O.K.
Rant over
+Frandysworld there are two marvel movies with norse mtyhology in them and you have a black man playing a major Norse figure
Idris alba plays heimdall.
Frandysworld Nick fure, made black
Heimdall made black
jhonny storm, made black
Storm trooper, a black man
listen im not even saying its not a valid argument.
Yall are just applying it to the WRONG movie
ITS FICTION...its not a real documentary or a movie based on REAL LIFE events
thats not a good comparaison to gods of egypt.
the equivalent would be all avengers being black except black panther
+Frandysworld It makes sense. Most of these movies have bombed (or from what I remember) anyway. This looks more like Gods of Rome. It's pretty difficult to deny that ancient kemet wasn't filled with people who look like the ones in the movie lol..I mean look at Queen Tiye. Her biography will probably star Jennifer Lawrence ..
The amount of "WE WUZ KANGZ N SHIET" in these comments is one of the most hilarious things I've seen today.
+McTacobell808 WE WUZ PHARAOZ AND SHEEEIT YO
Hal Jordan it's not a lie
Hal Jordan white doesn't just mean european
Hal Jordan caucasian is WHITE, to say that only pale skin is white is nazism, i'm not fighting a lost battle, it was a battle that never started and that never needed to be fought, egyptians were and are caucasoids, which is the white ethnicity, they were not congoid nor capoid, which are the black ethnicities.
Hal Jordan white is political?
this is funny, since when is my ethnicity political?
i do not do this in the name of some misguided ideal of racial superiority, but only in the name of history.
This movie looks incredible. Why all the negative comments in the comments section?
***** I watch plays and movies mainly for the story. If the story is good, I don't mind how bad everything else is.
i agree it looks incredibl......y bad
the negative comments are because Egypt is in Africa and before our history was erased and or hijacked our GODS were and are BLACK not white the day of praying to whites is over blacks are waking up to fight white supremacy
+Lydia Xavier Because the trailer was basically just a CGI fest with a whole lot of nothing. :/
+Mr. Ready 2 defend my people nailed it. they want the world to think whites were leaders of every successful civilazation. Egyptians aren't white
WAIT WHAT?! ARE YOU TELLING ME.... THESE CHARACTERS ARE SUPPOSED TO REPRESENT ANCIENT EGYPTIANS?!?! HAHAHAHAHA.
@awsomegirl/cool Thank you, thank you very much.
Seriously not 1 in the movie
Yup same way they gave you passion of the christ with an all white cast.
i think i just saw the whole movie
Except for the ending where Jaime lannister inevitably beats butler in a super hyped up but ultimately disappointing final battle
+Coleman Korb Jamie Lannister beats up Leonidas*
+Coleman Korb Hey! Spoiler alert!
+reisinger619 welp if the movie is longer than 2 minutes 15 seconds then I don't think you saw the whole movie
