Scooters are the killer transport app! Cheap running costs, park anywhere, carry anything, etc. I was fortunate to own a TMax 530 a few years ago and loved riding it every chance I had (everyday in fact).
But your review does not serve justice! Yamaha threw a lot of tech and innovation that you neglected to highlight. When it was first introduced, it quickly gained attention and market share of the maxi-scooter segment. Today, few ppl are willing to spend $20k on a ‘scooter’, especially in the USA, so no more T Max 560s or X-ADV 750 are available here.
Firstly, technically the T Max 560 is a 3 cyl engine, 2 combustion cylinders (linked; both up/down in synchronous order) and a third opposing balancing cylinder that does double-duty as an oil pump. This engine alone is a feat of engineering and found on no other machines. It rips like a 2 stroke in the higher revs and pulls away from stops faster then many motorcycles. Secondly, the T Max uses two different clutch systems: a wet plate internal clutch and a CV scooter clutch. This gives the bike predicable engagement (notice the subtle hash mark at 2000 rpms) that other scooters equipped with just the CV transmissions do not have. There are YT videos of ppl popping wheelies with T Maxs because of the twin clutch set up (not to be confused with Honda’s magical dual clutch transmission/DCT). This also allows the use of a drive belt (instead of a chain) that reduces noise, eliminates the needs of fussy maintenance (oily chains sling oil onto the pavement and the machine), and has a long service-life (T Max forums report 50 to 75,000 mile replacement interval).
Lastly, the T Max frame is an aluminum molded box girder that does not twist, flex, bend, or give under load in any direction. In other words, it is incredibly stiff and allows the T Max to feel securely planted when riding rough roads under heavy loads. No other bikes are built like it. The T Max makes the BMW GT650 feel like a cheap asian knock-off!
Legendary king of scooters! I would own it again, but now I’m in love with my Honda NM4!
Nice to highlight. But not an engineering channel here. Clearly you know all about it, but for most people I’m checking out what it’s like to ride and live with. All the tech is meaningless to buyers if it doesn’t do those things well.
@@ProductReviewCarsno it isn’t. Thanks to the comment of @yaksauce I literally change my mind about buying a new scooter. I was seriously considering buying a Honda Forza 750, but now I want the T-max 560.
I’m not a ‘tech’ man, but now I understand better the price and the quality of the T-Max, it’s worth the money
Uneducated take
I had a 2016 TMAX530 Iron Max after 55,000km my service costs were around $8k includes tyres. Every 20k service is around $1800 alone. 40k valve check $2500 would service mine every 5k which is what you will have to do to maintain your warranty. Sold it before the 60k service couldn’t justify spending another $2k on it. There fun in the city good weather protection ease of use is great get 240km out of the 15litre tank but the killer is the maintenance costs. Added warning the engine gasket is not rubber it’s paper.Maybe this new one is different, you have to order all parts for the valve check well in advance. You can’t just call up 2 weeks before with this thing you have allow for the parts to be sent from Japan.
Maintenance cost is a pocket cancer.
Now this is a useful review! Thank you for sharing this INFO! I am on the market for a Scooter and will consider avoiding high maintenance costs. Thank You!
This one of the downsides of scooter big and small displacements maintenance is higher than chain driven bikes
is that US $ ?
@@kevinperree7764 Australia dollars take 35% off for USD.
I don't like technology that you need an app and a subscription to operate. I just want it to work and work flawlessly. Especially when riding a motorcycle. It commands your full attention. I don't even want to accidentally think of anything while I'm riding.
Agreed ^
That isn't a motorcycle... Sorry.
Better you don't purchase, then
Ridiculous comment
@@disaffectedmalelol hmm, can go 130, engine centered on the frame, and bassd on a YZF frame, im sure Yamaha caters to your definitions of what is and what isnt a "motorcycle"
I was seriously thinking about buying one! Now I’m definitely buying it 🙌🏽 thank you for the great review ✅
Anyone who drive this scooter is going to like it
Any cruise scooter
Kymco have a cheap version but is nice scooter for the price
Aprillia ,Piaggio, Sym and more
I purchased a used 2009 Tmax 500 with 15,000 miles four years ago for $3,000 USD. It is Super fun and practical for commuting, shopping and a quick joy ride. It’s much more responsive than my Honda cruiser. Do away with the tech, reduce the price and enjoy the basics of riding. Nice review- thanks!
I agree. This must have been designed for fat executives with more money than sense..
I agree. This is way too much for a scooter. You got a good deal on your Tmax.
Thanks for watching!!
@@bcflyer99 maybe people need to stop thinking of this as just a "scooter." It's more of a hybrid. Yes, it's got some scooter bits, but it equally has motorbike bits as well. It was probably made to be a possible replacement for a car for some people, hence the nod to tech and the subsequent rise in price. Anyway, the thinking that this is just s scooter is so archaic and needs to stop, otherwise a lot of people will miss out on a great bike because their ego wont allow them to even consider such an awesome ride like this.
@@lancedaniels9479 $20,000 is too much for a slow scooter under 50 HP
for the price you can get a Ninja 650 and put a top case on it and call it a day.
Very well reviewed. Another pro of the Tmax - aftermarket exhausts. Make it loud as hell and cars will give way
Bought the Kymco AK 550 in the states and have been very happy with it, wish they sold this here!
Need more big cruiser scooters there
I just bought one, fantastic and fast
TMAX is one of the best scooters out there on market but it costs like some smaller car...
Btw, nice and detailed review 👍🏻
Absolutely. Thank you!!
I like Honda XADV as well
I like my Honda Forza 350. It's enough for me and is half the price of the T Max. Running costs are low, I just change the oil and filter once a year. 18,000 miles and the only problem, a blown headlight bulb. 🙂
That’s decent.
That's what i am planning to get coming April. either Forza 350 or ADV 350.Test both first, and than decide.
@@figvam2349 Definitely the adv mate
I’m on my 2nd Forza 350….fantastic and about the right size, has plenty of ‘go’. The electric screen is a game changer.
Also have a triumph t100 - both great machines in different ways.👍
@@markthompson9684 Didn't the first one last?
In 2022, i bought a 2019 tmax DX (as seen in profile pic and 1 short vid on profile). I was upgrading from an older x max 400 and thought now was the time to go for it. A loan was required to complete the few missing K for the t max. I was on the fence about going for the new tech max 560 but in the end, the price tag was the deciding factor.
Other factors are the tft screen. I don't need it/like it, I love the dual analogue on the slightly older model and I prefer the simplicity.
Then the looks... I think it is is ugly AF. So it was price tag then looks. My 530 DX is perfect and got it for 11k euro barely second hand and this new model was 15.999 so was a bit of an ask in the price department.
Great review thanks. Cool bike. Hoping to upgrade to this when i get my full licence.
Appreciate it! It's super luxurious for a scooter, should be a great option
When i saw your title, the first thing that has come to my mind is ''well, anything is better than driving a car'' i much prefer cycling, walking or motorcycle ride than driving a cage
My reason for having an interest in the tmax.... I have a forza 300 2018 from new great commuting machine, ideal and cheap as I do my own serving. But. I have a longing for a weekend faster machine. I had 650 but having to insure and keep two bikes on the road is hard work. I think the tmax will be great for commuting and meets plus maybe a bit of touring. I had an integra nc700 but it was not agile and heavy. These bikes are excellent around the bends and rounder abouts. It's just the buying price which has put me off.
Great content!
Thank you!
good review 👍
Thank you :)
Nice review thanks. I'd love to see a review of the new 2023 Yamaha Xmax please. The Tmax is a bit out of my price range :)
Thanks! For sure, expect more scooter reviews early next year!
Bigger scooters has its place. I had a Honda Silverwing. I pulled a one wheel trailer, put satellite radio couple other things on it. I’d stack it up with all the gold wings, I had previously had it for 23 months 40,000 miles on it. I think I put on it gas or oil and tires. I did decide to change a belt. bigger scooters do a lot more and the smaller ones one is wind protection, heavier weight you don’t get pushed around as much. Also, you carry more things especially when you have two people. Personally, I went back to riding I would go with big scooter again.
I like the Honda Silverwing but it’s dated
I will probably go with the XMAX 300 just to guarantee an availability of parts for the next 5-10 years. The Silverwing is becoming a relic and not many people know about it same with the ST1300
It's beautiful and fast. Pricey but you pay for what you get. Those who can afford it will get to enjoy it more.
It’s a dope bike, but not necessary for everyone.
It seems Honda and Vespa compete for the quality, longevity and overall value title with Yamaha being a distant third. At least as far as scooters are concerned.
I like all these "tech extras" but for $20,000, the maintenance should be included for at least three or four years. It isn't. 🤷
You get what you pay for. Not the same as what you said.
Can certainly come back to the channel for more of "Da Scoota"..
I can assure you I'll review as many Da Scoota I can get
@@ProductReviewCars Cheers. Would love to see more of these reviews even though Indian 2W market scenario is quite different.
Had a Burgman 400, 650 Executive and have a Silverwing now. This has me wishing I could try one.
It’s along those lines for sure
I really wish this thing is in usa. Motorcycles there are overated they are all about speed and thrill and high testostorone performance. They are shamed if they own a scooter. But they will never experience the fun of just sitting back relaxed and enjoy the ride while you are comfortably looking at the views.
It's one of the best commuter bikes out rn...but it does suck if it's raining
Small correction: 200kg isn’t that much for a motorcycle. Most mid size and larger bikes are around or above that weight.
Interesting that you found the centre stand hard to operate, I found it the easiest centre stand I have ever encountered. Nice review.
I love this bike overall and the review. It has a number of nice features, but the (heated ones) are of no use to me; as I'm in a humid area of the globe already. The electronic features are nice but 20K for 560cc scooter is too much cost to me; when compared to the Xmax 300 as an option.
Which is better this model or the zuma 2024?
Does anyone know where I can find VIN number stamped in the body
I bought one to export it
Couldn’t get certificate of conformity
Till I send a picture of the vin stamped in the body
Not as warm safe dry comfortable and relaxing as a car or good for shopping or for taking three friends etc etc etc
saw you mounting for the gopro, is it strong enough.
Absolutely.
I've done nearly 50,000 miles,on my 2001 Honda Fjs600 Silverwing scooter,all I've had to do is oil,filters,tyres,brake pads,I can do all,myself,except for tyres,engine is fine,very rarely needs valves adjusted,not yet,ok it's really designed for U S freeways,'n Milan,to Rome,however,it's ok here in Blighty,awesome for a disabled,pensioner on a budget,simple,easy for home maintain,tough n reliable,comfortable for 300 mile+ day rides,I'd love a Tmax or Xadv,but the cost,n so on,so a compromise, is ok,keep on riding,miles,n' miles,smiles,'n smiles
Nice!
I have been mistaken all my life. I thought a scooter was “Step Through” ? If you must step over the frame or seat doesn’t that make it a motorbike ?
I had a Suzuki Burgman 650 Executive. Other than no cruise control, I think it was all around better. Too bad they're no longer made. I'd buy another one, IF it had cruise control.
Those were baller scooters
I love that scooter! Is the best.
Try Honda Forza 750 to, it is great to.
Great vídeo
Thanks!!! I’ll check that one out soon hopefully.
@@ProductReviewCars the froza is 58hp and 6 gear dct its amazing! if i didnt get the rebel 1100 i will get the forza
They have different versions in Asia analog digital here I can see the full digital panel.
It has better tail lights too.
Yeah seems like the top spec here in Aus
I doubt there's a scooter or motorcycle on sale today that doesn't have a pass headlight flasher. When did you last ride anything?
A Vespa
More Bike reviews would be a good plan...." Wheeled Product Reviews ", or some such, would make sense... then you could do reviews on pretty much anything.
oooh I like that thinking...absolutely. Appreciate the support and ideas :)
Nice presentation. I would have liked to heard it running though.
Gotcha!! Will include that in the next review I do.
Will it be a suitable long distance motorcycle as well? I suspect it will be
Oh for sure. Probably one of the most comfortable scooters for long rides.
Shout out from Philippines bro
Yo!
I wish you would show it parked with the side stand, nobody uses the center stand. Thanx.
What's a scewder then??
Tmax has limited range and luggage options for touring. Itchy Boots on UA-cam has shown one can tour a world on a 300cc motorcycle. For me I'd pick the Honda Forza.
Oh yeah. Don’t need the power. But it’s still a comfortable commuter.
And Ed March proved you can do it on a Honda 90, this is a touring bike if that's what you require.
Looks like a Honda dn01?
Problem is 17,000 USD here in the states I can buy two used bmw C650GT’s for that with 2k or more left over. It’s nice but Yamaha has lost their mind on price
you’ll need those two extra BMWs when they break down for parts…
I don’t have any doubts about any Honda Toyota or Yamaha
Just needs Kawasaki to make a Ninja Scooter with their 650 engine and there will be real competition
I rather have my XMAX300 over these for daily city commute, it has a small Utility box that can only fit 1 full face helmet, and the scooter in general consume more fuel than the traditional motorcycle with the transmission in city driving
Wala ka lang pambili eh
Great video, just the right amount of detail for most 👍🏻
Thank you!
How can you get the new ones imported?
Can just buy them from a Yamaha dealer in Australia
@ProductReviewCars Oh ok and they import them to the US?
Headlights look like Riot in the Venom movie.
Exactly
lol
Should have moved the side mirrors to the handlebar & made the front smaller .
I rode a Honda Silverwing for 30 mins or so on the Old Pac Hwy and it frightened me with it's tiny wheels that made it turn so quick and it felt dangerous even at quite slow speed. The other thing that really bothered me was that there is nothing to grip with your knees and bumps would lift me off the seat. My bike is a 2019 CB500X. Do you have any comments on that?
the Honda Silverwing is very agile for its size and its intended purpose my other bike is a ST1300 police bike which is an elephant compared to the more agile Silverwing
Hi great movie very nice mounted ;)
Cheers!
I had 2 fantastic
Respect to you for spending a day in the rain for that review. Looked miserable
Hahah cheers. Couldn't have picked a worse day to film. Lucky the camera didn't die.
great review and great scooter, but way waaay to expensive.. in the end it's just a two wheeler no where near the safety and carry capacity of a car that costs that much or even less
Greatly appreciate it! Oh for sure. Depends on how you prefer to get around too.
Almost everyone who ride maxi-scooters, can afford a (not too frugal, old or small) car. Additional.
No shit?
Cobblers - 200kg is de rigeur for a mid sized bike.
My 1000cc MT10 is 212kg.
@@disaffectedmale honda gold wing 390kg , your point ???
Unfortunately not available in the U.S. 😥
loved the tmax since gen 1, and been on several of them, but the latest is just pug fugly
I wish I was rich enough to own and maintain this beast 😢
Beast? You'd have kittens if you rode my MT10 then...
20k is pretty cheap in australia compared in Indo😂😂. Because your country is too much put a hefty shitty tax 😂
Can I ask the location? 😅
I wish they sold it in the USA 😢
Had one 4 days after release and 5 days after that it was stolen and the tracker still pings, it’s in Ghana 🤣
Witch country you live in?
There was a time when a scooter was a "step through" now it seems they to have you throw your leg over it.
Vespa still has it
50hp "scooters" need a way more stabile frame, so they can't offer that step-through-feature. It's Your choice: step through or power. (I've chosen power ;-) )
20k usd?

man, please do more motorcycle reviews
I hear ya!! Working on that as we speak.
@@ProductReviewCars great!

Great review but that video transition is very annoying 😓
Thanks! Gotcha, note taken.
Cant be cheaper in Thailand for 16k usd
Must be other options!
For 20k, you get a real good sport touring bike with luggage bags 👀👀
Bags suck when lane filtering tho

20k for a scooter 😂
Didn't spend much more than that on a brand new MT10.
Except not available in the US :(

Either that guy is very small, or that scooter is HUGE!!. I love it.
5 foot 11 inches tall. Bike is pretty big.
At 11.46 I gave up waiting for variable cruise control .. if I was gona buy a scooter as a second vehicle I wouldn’t spend more that $5k .. ridiculous bike .
Thats like saying
This apache helicopter is better than a boat
Well it is
Push the mirrors 10cm backwards, where they belong, much better sight...🤐
True okay
too bad this won't be in the states!
:(
3 extra g's because of the screen, give me a break. Tech aint worth it.
whinger
Not just the screen, full garmin GPS (not just turn by turn) phone control (calls music etc) weather forecasts, locking center stand cruise control, heated seats and grips
Kilo per pound it certainly costs a lot more than a car too
great with loose control
A scuda? What's that?
$20,000 ! is way too much for a slow scooter. How much price inflation do you have down under ? My PCX cost just $4000 new and does 80 mph with over 100 mpg. How can they sell the TMAX for $20,000 ?
Center stands no matter the bike is all about technique, not strength
Gotta practice that
20k?
Here in Aus. Yup.
$20,000 for a scooter you can keep it !
i had no idea that scooters could cost $20k+
Me neither but here we are
Honda or Yamaha?
big tire like racing bike tire
🤣🤣🤣 If you say so bud...
20 g's for a scooter, are you friggin crazy.
$20649. Are you nuts? That price is in BMW 1250RT territory, a far better ride.
Am I?
@@ProductReviewCars Yes.
Is the bmw really a better ride?
@@paul5683 Having owned neither, I must rely on others' reviews.
I would say yes, the BMW is a better ride, albeit the Yamaha must be good also.
The BMW is larger, has a more advanced suspension, much larger and more powerful engine that gets 45 to 55 mpg, very nearly as good as the Yamaha.
The Bimmer engine is 135 hp, and Yamaha about 1/3 of that.
And its instrument panel beats anything else on the market.
Features on the standard Bimmer are considerable, and for another $6K, it will wipe your hide and give you change.
Motorcycle v. Scooter.
So, yes I'd give the nod to the Bimmer.
That price is ridic
Ak550 premium is a better option.
Subscription-based feature. Geez.
make it 700cc itll be an end game
Turbo Busa swap this motor
It's the size of a Harley hahaaa
Thing is YUGE
Nice looking bike but not powerful enough compared to competition and for riding regularly with a pillion, and that price is very high.
I owned a TMax for some years but eventually sold it as I found it put too much weight on my coccyx and caused real discomfort.
I now have a Forza 750 which is a more powerful, comfortable and imo better bike, and significantly cheaper too. Yamaha needs to up its game, especially when selling at such a premium price.
Interesting! Cheers for the insight.
No need to mention Vespa at all let alone every minute. Not a bad review other than that
It was my only benchmark as it's the only other high-end scooter I've ridden. But appreciate the feedback!
@@ProductReviewCars fair enough mate I was a tad critical. It’s the best review on UA-cam for this bike. I just bought one and I use your video to show my mates my bike.
Forza 750 much better on whole things expect the cruse control and heat seat
Tbh I really appreciated both of those features and used them quite a bit
Seems to me waiting for a dry day would have been a good idea rather than reviewing it in the actual rain. Apart from that, nice review.
Not much choice when you have a shooting schedule 🤷♂️ + Sydney’s rain was relentless last year. Good practicality test for those who ride in all weather too.
Like the BMW better..
