2021 and still missing him. Such a great actor, enormously charismatic and handsome man, he was one of a kind. Watching his Sherlock Holmes mostly every day.
Wow! I only just (this Nov 2023 at age 79) discovered Jeremy Brett & his Sherlock Holmes, and I'm blown away. Truly the one and only bestest ever. And what a lovely handsome awesome man and actor!. Brilliant. Can't get enough of it (his Holmes and of him. I sobbed through this beautiful tribute. Thank you so much. 💖💖💖
Very touching tribute to the guy we all know as the quintessential Sherlock Holmes. I absolutely loved him in these series back when they were originally aired over a ten year period of my childhood and adolescence. I moved about a fair bit back then so saw them in different locations and countries and loved the familiarity of the episodes as they came out year after year. Having rediscovered them very recently - almost by accident now as a middle aged man - I cannot believe the feelings of nostalgia! No other tv series from back then has had this effect! Definitely a guy I’d like to have had stick around a bit longer. Thank you for your unique style Mr. Brett. RIP brother.
I had fogotten how brilliant he was until lockdown, when I started watching daytime television and re-discovered treasures from my past. The Avengers, The Saint and especially Jeremy Brett as Sherlock. He conveyed the almost feline quality of Holmes, his abundant energy, mostly restrained but on occasions demonstrated as he leapt over chairs! His acting is unparalleled; he knew that less is more. A twitch in the cheek, a flicker in the eyes, a brisk Ha! Watching him is a delight. he gives such unalloyed pleasure such as few actors have ever managed. Watching interviews with him here I came to know the charismatic and elegant English gentleman that was Jeremy Brett, and how I lament his too soon departure from us.
Wow.... he passed in 1995 and I wasn’t even aware of it back then. It’s only within the last ten years that I’ve become such a fanatic of his perfect Sherlock Holmes performances. It’s so evident from the way Edward Hardwick and David Burke talk about him how much he was loved by friends and thespian colleagues. I don’t think I’m worthy enough to consider myself among their revered number.
Thank you for making this beautiful tribute. It made me cry. I was only 20 when he left us. Best Sherlock ever and I will fight anyone who says otherwise
I have recently discovered him. What a fine actor and a fine gentleman! I wish I could had meet him. Extremely handsome witty and charming with lots of character!
I can't help but shed tears every time I think of Jeremy Brett, I didn't know him personally but his death hit me as profoundly as if he was a family member. Jeremy was an amazing actor and man, he was what we call dream to be, to accomplish what he accomplished. He is still loved by millions and as time passes and people watch his works they will too love the man. God has Jeremy in his care now. You are missed and loved by millions Jeremy.
A Beautiful tribute to one of the Greatest ! RIP Jeremy. There never was and never will be a better Sherlock Holmes. He was the Best and will always be missed !
I love this man 😍 I miss him too one of the greatest actors ever and one and only private consulting detective in the world. My dear Jeremy, we'll always love you and actually we don't miss you because you are with us, every time we watch Sherlock Holmes 😍😍
A very fitting tribute to a great actor and apparently good man. I have seen the character of Sherlock Holmes portrayed by numerous individuals; some good and some, well, not that convincing. Based on my love of the Holmes stories authored by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, I am convinced that Jeremy Brett was (and still is) the "definitive Holmes!" He breathed life into a character that I think even Sir Arthur would have been very pleased! I have the Holmes series as part of my film collection and it is one of my very favorites. I wish I could have met this man and talk to him about his Holmes portrayal; but at least I have the series and can watch is whenever I want. When I do, Brett is alive and well! Thank you for that tribute that is well deserved!!!
It's January 2022, been 26 years going 27 years after he's gone, still deeply Miss him ❤️, thank you so much for this beautiful video, we can't never can't thank Jeremy enough but I am sure he is looking from up there, and smile to see how many people love him and will always love him ❤️
Thank you for this exquisite and very moving tribute! I do think that Jeremy Brett was the best Holmes yet! Your lovely tribute to Edward Hardwicke was perfection, also; I think he was the best Watson so far! You are to be much congratulated for your perfect taste! Thank you! Be well, JSE.
That is a beautiful beautiful tribute. I think that each time someone sees him For the first time they fall in love with Sherlock holmes. Once you see the body Of his work your heart grows even fonder. I believe when you leave here That that LOVE will take you to where Ever he may be residing and feel the glow that he brings to our hearts.
I miss him a lot. That is his success. I've never seen him in person. I was born in totally another generation. Yet I've this crush on him. It's hard to find fans like that who make you immortal long after your death. Bravo Jeremy.
Jeremy Brett a wonderful human being and an inspiration to us all. I saw him in an interview with Clive James in which Jeremy said he failed in Hollywood. I'm not surprised Hollywood wouldn't know true talent if it kicked them in the nuts. Good, as we then had him to play Sherlock Holmes for us America's loss Watching him again on UA-cam he is just superb as Holmes R.I.P. Jeremy
I miss the man and the actor. He was the best SherlockeI have ever seen. I truly enjoyed all his work but Sherlock was the one for whom he was most known.
We mustn't forget that there were great actors who portrayed the character of Sherlock Holmes and in doing this it makes Jeremy Brett that much greater and unique and it is this fact that made him the Quintessential Sherlock Holmes and very difficultly to ever be matched.
Beautifully done...many thanks for this singular remembrance of deeply beloved Jeremy...oh, he was so unique, and beautiful, and superlative....I suddenly have come upon a way to memorialize him, designing and making a necklace with a large blue oval stone...for his Sherlock Holmes, and "The Blue Carbuncle"....and so I'll have a memorial to him to wear, for always. Adored, darling Jeremy, forever.
I can never convey my thoughts and feelings of Jeremy Brett adequately. I watch my Granada series DVD collection in it's Beautiful emerald green box constantly. I also have a copy of Bending the Willow published in 1996. Jeremy said his interpretation of Holmes is to bend the willow, but not break it. I have the hardcover edition and cherish it. It's twenty seven years since you left us but your legend lives on.
One of my very flavourite English actors,no one ever played, Sherlock like Jeremy and the voice to go with it,salamat ng marami--Lagi Kang nasa puso ko: George::
I miss him dreadfully. I loved the fact he was always candid about his bipolar disorder which help me deal with dealing with my diagnosis... if one of my heroes could live with then I would be ok. It was gut wrenching when he died, too young! I too was annoued that he won nothing for his portrayel oh SH. As far as I have seen (I adorded the stories for very young) not 1 person has been closed to him. I know there's a new one about and it is quite good but for authentic... watch Jeremy. He was a real gem.
Now it is 25 years since Jeremy Brett's passing and I still can't get over the loss of him. Next month he would have been 87 years old and I bet, if he could, he'd still be treading the boards or be in front of a camera somewhere. He stood out and excelled even in comparatively tiny parts, as in 'My Fair Lady'. Even in the sad and dour, 'The Good Soldier' his internal 'electricity', his glowing facial expressions and eyes, hinted at the passions and love for life dwelling within. When I was a young film and TV critic for a newspaper, learning my craft, it was Basil Rathbone who 'was' Sherlock Holmes to me. Although, I was deeply irritated by the deliberately 'dumbed down' Dr Watson played by Nigel Bruce. No matter what Conan Doyle said about Watson in his only filmed interview, Doyle never intended his Dr Watson to be a bumbling, accident prone, yet well intentioned duffer as Mr Bruce was told to play him in the Hollywood Holmes movies. George C. Scott gave 'a Holmes' a good shot but he lacked the finesse and subtlety of a 'true' Holmes. There have been dozens of 'Holmeses' among the hundreds that have played him who have captured something close to the perfect/imperfect man that Doyle's Holmes was, yet it was not until the absolutely stunning interpretation of Holmes by Jeremy Brett came along that actual life was infused into the full character. By the time of Conan Doyle's death, he most probably never even imagined or envisaged a living human able to play the 'perfect' embodiment of his most popular character; one that had become a millstone around the writer's neck. Wouldn't it be magnificent to read a criticism of Jeremy Brett's work as Holmes, penned by Conan Doyle? My money is going on the writer being gobsmacked by exposure, across the decades of time, to a Brett performance of his Sherlock. Yet, a mere 3 years and 4 months after his death, an infant would be born that would, one day, do just that; become to millions of people around the world, the perfect Sherlock Holmes. Mr Cumberbatch's Holmes is an entirely different kettle on a Bunsen burner. By deliberately setting out to have 'a Holmes' and 'a Dr Watson' presented in and inhabiting a modern-day London, to me at least, removes Mr Cumberbatch's excellent performances from the field of runners in the 'Holmes Stakes'. The TV series, 'Sherlock' stands alone as totally different with its Holmes not displaying any trace of a Victorian Londoner, likewise for its Dr Watson. While this particular Holmes uses all the intellect and deductive powers made famous by Doyle and inspired by Edinburgh University’s Dr Bell, this modern Holmes, of course, uses today's technology, even forensic equipment, to solve his cases. This Sherlock has replaced Bradshaw's Railway Guide with an iPad and the internet, and rightly so. The one and only episode of the 'Sherlock' series, to date, that I have not admired greatly, was when the writers/producers decided to present that episode set in Victorian London. The significant talents of Mr Cumberbatch and Mr Freeman, notwithstanding, the effort is fraught with errors of judgement, setting and presentation. Now, being able to be stacked up beside a Jeremy Brett interpretation, the episode is sadly, almost tragically, lacking. Simply, among those faults, the fact that Mr Cumberbatch is not and cannot be Jeremy Brett. The most immense tragedy of the entire 'lifespan' of Sherlock Holmes is that there will never be another Jeremy Brett to complete the canon of Doyle's Holmesian catalogue. Never again a nimble, intelligent actor who was able to act with every part of his body, from a slight crook of the distal part of one little finger, though those uniquely, utterly compelling eyes of Brett's to his whole body leaping across furniture, across mantle pieces and over stairwells. As Jeremy Brett was a complete Holmes, he was a complete actor. Not one thread of his impeccable costumes, not one hair on his head nor of one eyebrow was not 'acting' for every frame upon which he was filmed. Never before in over sixty years of watching movies and television, have I seen one actor who could spellbind me like Jeremy Brett's Holmes could. As I wrote in my book on films, "If a film makes you forget the discomfort of the cinema seat; the unpaid bills back at home, the rustling of some cacophonous cellophane right behind you, then you are watching a truly excellent performance in a wonderful film." Let me put it another way, if a rabid aardvark was gnawing on my left leg while I was watching Brett play Holmes, I'd only notice just before I fainted from blood loss. He was that good! Finally, let me say, even though I never had the supreme privilege of interviewing Jeremy Brett, (heaven knows I tried) and that I never met him; I miss him more than any of my myriad dead friends or relatives. Like millions of other too, I always shall miss this unique man; this perfect Sherlock Holmes. VALE Jeremy Brett 1933/1995 BH
That was so moving. As a life long fan of Jeremy's I can honestly say that it has lifted my heart how many tributes there have been here on youtube, it is so good to know that his work will never be forgotten.

Beautiful tribute to such a wonderful man. I was a toddler when he made Holmes, and I didn't discover him until now :( I don't know how this is possible that he could affect me so deeply, but I miss him like he was blood. Jeremy had that amazing aura that radiated like the sun, forever eternal. Thanks for this video.
Jeremy Brett couldn't be a better actor chosen to play the lead role in Sherlock Holmes series. Brett/Holmes truly n sadly missed indeed. Praiseworthy dramatisation with excellent performance! Enjoyable watch!👍🏻(emily, Singapore)
Lovely Tribute. When he died we couldn't just jump onto the Internet and have ANYTHING at our fingertips. I'm so glad that his work continues to be added to websites (like this one) and people like you help to keep his memory alive.
He made a most excellent Sherlock and was, I think, well partnered. I continue to recommend his portrayal to this day. His voice and manner brought a great deal to the role particularly. Though missed, he remains well remembered.
Beautifully done . Thank you. What a great actor he was. Sherlock Holmes is Jeremy Brett. He was totally mesmerizing in that role. Suffered from bi - polar - Rest in Peace now
Thank you for such a wonder tribute. I too never met him but whenever I watch Jeremy, I feel as though I knew him just from the energy, passion, kindness, and joy that radiates from his face and loving smile. What a marvelous talent and gift. Jeremy Brett lives because we love you, Jeremy. Nice tribute. I met the great man once and he was very warm and gracious with his time..sadly I remember he wasnt too well but still made the effort..the biog 'the man who became Sherlock Holmes' is worth a read, ..and his Granada tv series of Homes is the perfect escape from the madness of 21st century
Almost 27 years already… I watched the Sherlock Holmes series for the first time as a child with my parents and I was truly captivated by his portrayal of the great detective. I had never and I still have never seen anyone act like that. It is incredible. He truly embodied the character. And even though I was born two years after he died, I too can feel the grief of his passing. Thank you so much Jeremy for all the joy you’ve given us and are still giving to people all around the world. We’ll never forget you, you’ll always live on in our hearts 💗💗💗 Rest in peace 🙏🏼💫⭐️
Ahh, that was amazing, one of the best tributes here on UA-cam, not only because it took a lot of research for the photos and for Quintus' quote, or because of the words, but also because we can feel everything you were feeling when you made this. I, just like everyone else, miss him greatly. I had tears and a smile on throughout the whole video. But hey, let's remember all amazing things he did and laugh, that's what Jeremy would want us to do. R.I.P. One of the best Sherlock Holmes the world

@starchildstrider In same room? Oh my!!! All we need is a stare from him through those piercing eyes to go mad. 😀
For me, Jeremy played the best Sherlock Holmes. I will always have fond memories of watching the series with my father now long since passed.

Lovely comments. RIP Dear Man.
You forgot to mention David Burke who played Dr. Watson in the first season of the Sherlock Holmes series alongside Jeremy Brett!
Rest in Peace sir.😥😥😥😥
The world has lost a true gentleman
Almost 27 years already… I watched the Sherlock Holmes series for the first time as a child with my parents and I was truly captivated by his portrayal of the great detective. I had never and I still have never seen anyone act like that. It is incredible. He truly embodied the character. And even though I was born two years after he died, I too can feel the grief of his passing. Thank you so much Jeremy for all the joy you’ve given us and are still giving to people all around the world. We’ll never forget you, you’ll always live on in our hearts 💗💗💗 Rest in peace 🙏🏼💫⭐️
I miss him still !
Miss you Jeremy ,The Best Ever Sherlock. It was written for you only. Again watching whole series on u tube, May your soul rest in peace.....
R.I.P. One of the best Sherlock Holmes the world
This video was made 15 years after Brett's passing.
And it wont be long now before this video is 15 years old as well.....
...life goes on...
