Can someone explain why it wouldn't be more beneficial to just use Mini PCs instead of building a traditional desktop? I understand that with a custom-built PC, you can swap out the CPU and GPU when needed. However, isn't there a point where the motherboard might break, or the GPU no longer works, or newer components demand more power than the motherboard can handle? Wouldn't you eventually have to replace the entire system anyway? Given these potential issues, are the benefits of a traditional build really worth the hassle compared to a more compact and simpler option like a Mini PC?
I think you answered yourself. Minipc = CPU + GPU + RAM welded to the motherboard. Small form factor. Expensive Regular PC = upgradeable. Bigger. Less expensive.
Well the thing is, in a mini pc, if one part breaks. It would very be more likely that you won't find a replacement. And unless it's only the rams or the power adapter, you might need to learn to desolder and solder. At least when it breaks in a traditional desktop, you only have to replace that one part. There's also the advantage of mid upgrade. Meaning you only have to buy a newer GPU or a higher end CPU that's compatible to socket. As for the PSU, that's why it's more advisable to get something that has a higher wattage rating like 750w, 850w or even 1000w. But the most important part is that since the AMD A series, the first gaming APU and up now, if we are talking about a mini pc, you would be sacrificing performance at the same budget. The 890m Is somewhere between 1060 to 1070 or 1660 in performance. That's great, yes. But how much is whole mini PC, $900-1000 or higher? For that same amount, at the time of writing, we can already build a PC with 5700x3d and around 7700xt of gpu. It consume way more power, yes, but it's also a lot faster.
