They're such a pain. Sprawled out heavy dense limbs. We have mostly oaks in my area as well. And no one ever calls for the easy trees 😂😂😂😂only the nightmares. Live for this
Love the pruning videos. As an arborist it's so much of what I do, but everyone wants to film the removals. I find the big prunes to be the most challenging.
Nah. Skill needed but not more skillful. Actually, far less to worry about and consider. “Rigging”your person, is a first step that might prepare someone for more advanced things later with regard to rigging.
I agree, however, i’ve met guys that can remove massive trees very efficiently on spikes but take the spikes off and they literally don’t know how to climb. I’d say rigging your person is the first step to really getting it all but some tree guys go years and years into their career without ever taking the spikes off so it all depends on the fashion that you learn in. However I agree large rigging on removals is much more technical and skillful . I climb on a monkey beaver everyday ❤️ all love
That's a neat Joe hook. You could probably use that to lower smaller branches down. I'm glad the saw survived that drop. It's a strange feeling when something should be tethered but somehow falls to the ground.
That base tie! Hahaha, it worked but I don't know if I'd trust it! These types of jobs are my favorite. Small crew, just fun climbing and cutting, not a ton of noise.
august i loved this pruning video. it was a nice change from your usual removal videos. and that was a smooth move you did to rig that piece with your tail and a speedline sling, but being able to get your tail back off of the limb. Well done guys, love the misfits saddle as well. W video W prune job!
What's your cuttoff point for when dead wood is too small in diameter to bother removing? 1" diameter? Also, in quotes/contracts, do you specify removal of all dead wood or just "as necessary", so you don't have to get tiny twigs at tips of limbs?
A lot going on in that video August. 🎣 I couldn't help smiling when you used that "solo rigging" technique. I have used that many times over the years with great success. A lot of material came off that Oak. I bet it's breathing a sigh of relief. 😉 Thanks for sharing a pruning video and keep yourselves safe! 😃👍❤🌲 Randy
I've used two gas-powered pole saws an Echo and a Stihl. Neither of them performed as well as your Milwaukee. They weighed 5x more too. I'm impressed. Thank you for sharing your toys with us, August.
As always August, great watching you two climb. Loved the span rig line recovery. Don’t think I won’t be using that one, because it’s definitely going in the toolbox 🧠. Thank you for continuing to share and Happy Easter to you, the Wife, kids, family, and teammates. 🇺🇸❤️🙏🏽 🙉 🦫
Enjlyed the video. Nice job limb walking around that big oak. I liked the solo rigging with the loop. I often use this technique to solo rig out trees. Thanks for the great camera work....makes your videos that much more interesting.
I made a long polesaw out of a robust 20' extension pole, and a small electric pole saw that I've used for years on the pole and just as a homeowner light saw for tiny trees and overgrown hedges. It's awesome... oh, it's also plug in, not battery. Still, freaking awesome around the property.
Thanks for sharing August. Well, I know you always say pruning is not as fun to watch. I disagree, because I always learn something from you. Thank you for sharing. Look forward to the next episode!
That Milwaukee pole saw did surprise me. I demoed at the expo last week. Only wish it had the extra handle on the end like the stihl one when using at max reach
I learned how to Hollow Prune a tree while working my Cities Parks&Rec. Grounds Maintenance crew - my saw was a McCullough 10" Pruning Saw and a 36" lopping cutter - I free climbed in the trees - anchored to the tree
Nice work! Glad to see we aren't the only crew that has one guy pole sawing and another guy catching! LOL We've got a STIHL HTA 86 battery pole saw and it is darn good also! I was doing similar to what you were doing one day, cutting from a roof and giving the limb a little help so it wouldn't catch the gutter and it was a wish bone shape piece and it spun around pulling down hard on the pole saw and bent the shaft! So no more wishbone pieces for me, two cuts I guess! LOL
Happy Easter, thanks for posting the vid. I did my oak last week on a very windy day, I realized one could get sea sick if you're prone to that. I didn't realize how much I had thinned until I looked down and couldn't see the yard! Thoroughly enjoying my new past time and getting a work out while I'm at it. As always learning a bunch from your posts, blessings to you and your family, stay safe. BTW I'm sure you checked your base anchor to see if it had a few screws in it, right?😉
Your give this old Oak through cut the Death Wood the Chance new Branch to building. Beside is a Snow and Wind break not to afraid.. I wish You and your family Happy Easter Days.
You could be much more effective and efficient without the ropes but you need them for the gear and the safety of being tied in, and the ability to be rescued if need be.
Happy Easter everyone. Loved the video. I have some high pruning that needs to be completed soon and was wondering if your Milwaukee pole pruner was the M18FTPS 30-0 As this one popped up on my Google search. £600 and if it’s this one then it seems worth the price.
Really enjoy watching your videos used to do a little free climbing with just a rope tied to a back belt nothing as complicated as stuff you guys was wondering do you ever wear caulk boots up on a climbing job I know they make caulk sneakers now days
August, have you ever heard of adding cinnamon powder to water based paint to make an anti-fungal coating for the scar where a limb has been pruned? Cinnamon bark is highly anti-fungal for its own tree, in the jungle. I'm getting a bit old to give this experiment a fair trial.
Was doing that same thing then..forgot my phone and no rope ..limb hit my ladder and was stuck on roof for hours..until finaly jumped onto a trunk slid down..to injured to jump off..😢..will never go on roof without a phine and rope again...😢
Sam, you asked what we want to see next. How about a blue and white, like the Israeli flag with the 7 branch temple menorah (candlestick).or better yet an olive tree.
When my dad and I used to prune we would paint all of the cut sections that we cut off the tree to try and seal it. Is that a bad idea? All the best from Surrey BC Canada
Are those Sketchers you are styling with today? Looking good, but they seem to lack appropriate traction at that height 😮 attractive though 😅. A thought, ( I occasionally have one) you two are doing as adults what I did as a kid, but at far greater heights, and actually make money from it 😊. That saw is a testament to battery technology. Ain’t it wondermus what money can do to ease the physical stress that is prevalent in the workplace? Does not get you up where you work, that is your daily gymnastics regimen. Great job from two pros.
Milwaukee battery saw takes a 30 foot Pachinko/Pinball trip to the ground, ...takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'! The Captain Joe Hook to the rescue!!!
Also, August I was curious. The new DMM saddle comes with an adjustable bridge built onto it. Why can't you guys sell them like that? Just curious, thank you, God bless.
Does anyone know if the Makita pole saws suffer from the same over-active protection circuitry as their top handle saw? I imagine the Makita is good enough for my needs but thought I'd ask. I'd rather not have to invest in the big/expensive Milwaukee batteries.
Hey, August your opinion, my zigzag is about 3 years old. Maybe a little more Petzel says. I believe to retire after 3 years. I just feel like that's a lot of money to spend when there's nothing wrong with mine. Do you have any opinion on that? Thank you so much, God bless happy Easter.
Your saw fell out of your transporter because when you descended kind of in Between those branches the saw touched one of those . and popped out ma brother
Thank you for posting this August! Oak pruning makes up the vast majority of my work, so I am glad to see ANYTHING you do in that regard.
They're such a pain. Sprawled out heavy dense limbs. We have mostly oaks in my area as well. And no one ever calls for the easy trees 😂😂😂😂only the nightmares. Live for this
"The Art of Pruning" videos like this are pure gold. I'm pausing and taking notes left and right. Thank you!!
Love the pruning videos. As an arborist it's so much of what I do, but everyone wants to film the removals. I find the big prunes to be the most challenging.
More pruning videos please. Don’t see enough of this
These pruning videos are so much more interesting from a climbing perspective. Much more technical and skilful. Please do more of them. Thank you.
Nah. Skill needed but not more skillful. Actually, far less to worry about and consider. “Rigging”your person, is a first step that might prepare someone for more advanced things later with regard to rigging.

I really enjoyed seeing all these techniques with a srt rope walk and limb walk navigating. Very cool. Happy Easter.
The way you rigged that 😊limb over the roof and pulled your tail out from it 🤯 mind blown over the simplicity. Thank you
I saw an old guy who worked alone do this and felt like I'd just learned how the pyramids were built!
That base tie! Hahaha, it worked but I don't know if I'd trust it! These types of jobs are my favorite. Small crew, just fun climbing and cutting, not a ton of noise.
You were definitely made for that, and I'll bet all the squirrels want your autograph.
Holy cow, that Milwaukee is the bomb. I am old and do 98% punning work these days and I am gettin one. Thanks for the tip.
Love the cut and catch.. Also the pole saw is such a handy tool, don't leave home without it .
LOVE THAT PRUNE JUICE!
Misfits saddle is so rad.
Love, from the coast of Maine ♥️🌲🪓♥️

I know you don't like doing pruning video's but I enjoyed it !!! Thank you !!! And really good job catching those limbs both of you 👊😁
I love watching Damian catching the branches over the roof. It may not be the safest option, but it looks really efficient.
You two were excellent again with that job.
Jackson County and Josephine County folks are lucky to have you.
I've used two gas-powered pole saws an Echo and a Stihl. Neither of them performed as well as your Milwaukee. They weighed 5x more too. I'm impressed. Thank you for sharing your toys with us, August.
My echo pole saw takes a lot of willpower to use in the tree. Very heavy.
Damien being an absolute hero on that roof
Good catching! Enjoyed the video. 😊
As always August, great watching you two climb. Loved the span rig line recovery. Don’t think I won’t be using that one, because it’s definitely going in the toolbox 🧠.

Enjoyed the pruning, great retrieval of your chainsaw 🙌🙌🙌. Have a Blessed Easter Sunday 🙏🙏🙏

We use the harbor freight 40v, its great when you dont forget to charge the battery!
That cut & catch system is on point. Nice work
Thanks for sharing August. Well, I know you always say pruning is not as fun to watch. I disagree, because I always learn something from you. Thank you for sharing. Look forward to the next episode!
Great job .
That self rig with the sling was slick , I will be using that .
That Milwaukee pole saw did surprise me. I demoed at the expo last week. Only wish it had the extra handle on the end like the stihl one when using at max reach
No spurs, Oak trees? This is all we need in the south. Good to see a pro do it. Thank you.
My weakness is pruning so I've really been enjoying these pruning videos. Again thank you sir
I learned how to Hollow Prune a tree while working my Cities Parks&Rec. Grounds Maintenance crew - my saw was a McCullough 10" Pruning Saw and a 36" lopping cutter - I free climbed in the trees - anchored to the tree
By far the coolest tree climbing saddle ive ever seen
Nice work! Glad to see we aren't the only crew that has one guy pole sawing and another guy catching! LOL We've got a STIHL HTA 86 battery pole saw and it is darn good also! Worked with a frenchman. So good like no wieght on his stuff. Just trim n thin some big trees. Lota fullas can climb not many like that. Cheers
Great video! Happy Easter wishes to all!❤❤❤
Great job with the pruning! Loved the video.💪
Neat trick with sling and beanier, kudos to you, in my arsenal now! Thanks!
your working style is as easy as swimming, greetings from Poland, Happy Easter.
Hope you and the family are enjoying Easter.
Wow, that was some REAL Monkey Beavering! ❤
Happy Easter, thanks for posting the vid. I did my oak last week on a very windy day, I realized one could get sea sick if you're prone to that. I wish You and your family Happy Easter Days.
You look like you feel free enough to run around those branches without ropes.
You could be much more effective and efficient without the ropes but you need them for the gear and the safety of being tied in, and the ability to be rescued if need be.
That misfits saddle is epic!
august is the 1 handed limb catching assassin!
Happy Easter everyone.
Loved the video.

£600 and if it’s this one then it seems worth the price.
The saw falling cracked me up, glad its ok
I hate working on customers rooftops. Scared that there might be dry rot between trusses. It has to be done sometimes , just freaks me out.💪
yeah Misfits. looks great.🤘
I want to say thank you learned so much
Really enjoy watching your videos used to do a little free climbing with just a rope tied to a back belt nothing as complicated as stuff you guys was wondering do you ever wear caulk boots up on a climbing job I know they make caulk sneakers now days
As I understand it, end weight reduction is leverage reduction, as it reduces torquing forces at the main union.
Good job August.
That misfits saddle is gnarly to the Bone!
lov the Misfits Saddle!!!
Would you mind sharing the model number for the Milwaukee electric pole saw that you used in this video? I enjoy your videos.
In the beginning, Damien said open up UA-cam with the Throw ball I was dying laughing
August make a large gear bag for storing your climbing gear. We need a monkey beaver bag like that
Should you cut off the dead branches before the funk growing on them reaches the main trunk? I think mine is a bur oak
Gonna be ordering a custom scooby doo phone case soon!! Happy easter and awesome job on the tree also im puzzled how the saw came off as well 🤔 🧐
Great video Happy Easter ( Ty Ron

What model of pole saw is that. I use the Stihl gas and sometimes after awhile it can get heavy. I do alot of walk around tree trimming/pruning.
12:24 I feel better when I see it happen to an expert. Glad my saw doesn't cost as much as that one.
Dang, what chain is that Milwaukee running? 😳
Excellent pruning job
August: what kind of shoes do you wear when you aren't spiking up a tree?
Boot barn square toe cowboy boots
Was doing that same thing then..forgot my phone and no rope ..limb hit my ladder and was stuck on roof for hours..until finaly jumped onto a trunk slid down..to injured to jump off..😢..will never go on roof without a phine and rope again...😢
Lovely jubbly!
15:54 brilliant technique :-)

Yes, if you cut it correctly it Will compartmentalise itself, look up CODIT
Good video y’all I am electric cars and trucks but do own a full line of 20volt Milwaukee the best out there
It's m18
Grammar??
He was a small full but wow. Get out there. N amazin.

Hi I new at climbing and riggings tree I have a hard time cutting with one rigging spot on whole tree
@August Hunicke
Is that the ISC Squirrel Flex & Apex on your ZigZag? If so, how do you like it compared to the Petzl Chicane?
I've never had to use the chicane. It came out as a copy of a thing that I already had.
I think he uses Reon rounds solid tether. Idk if he sells them anymore

Oops! Orange, not red. My bad. Anyway, pretty damned impressive!
Also, August I was curious. The new DMM saddle comes with an adjustable bridge built onto it. Why can't you guys sell them like that? Just curious, thank you, God bless.
Well, the DMM doesn't officially check all the ATSM and ANSI safety boxes. I like it tho and consider it safe.
Does anyone know if the Makita pole saws suffer from the same over-active protection circuitry as their top handle saw? I imagine the Makita is good enough for my needs but thought I'd ask. I'd rather not have to invest in the big/expensive Milwaukee batteries.

I just use it until it starts to slip and then get a bigger diameter rope until it slips again 🤷🏼♂️ I’m sure Petzel would not endorse my methods.
Your saw fell out of your transporter because when you descended kind of in Between those branches the saw touched one of those . and popped out ma brother
Nah
Cheers great c ya get out there limb wieght. Cheers
How much was that saw
Swingers doing mind exercise in high places.👍
Make a belt with trees all on the back 😊

Wow

I give the base tie a 4x4 = 16 🐰

So much of what you do *MAKES ME CRINGE* but all must be well if you dropped the video. *AGAIN YOU GUYS EARN YOUR MONEY* and thanks for the VIDEOSSS!
I’m a home owner and here’s a tip 🗣️🗣️🗣️
Leverage reduction is more important than weight reduction and I don’t own a home because I’m poor
