I feel like James only got the surgery so he could do better Sandler impressions

@@theoutcasts8844 I got some pops(whistle)cicles in my van!
Lol, i thought it was herbert the pervert
@Jeremy Helgason my daily diet consists only of movies, metal and red meat.
@Jeremy Helgason you too Mr. Helgason!
Seeing James be so happy about his vocal range is adorable
I guess your right
I am SO disappointed that they showed the paint scene in the trailers because that was SUCH an amazing scare and I would’ve loved to have seen that without knowing about it before hand
That still got me, and I saw it coming 100%
Justin Ball same
I hadn't heard about the movie before so I jumped when that happened. My leg rose about halfway up.
I didn’t watch the trailer and I went with a group of friends and they didn’t watch it either and at that scene one of them scared everyone in the theater saying OH MY GOD!!😂😂😂
@@justinball5651 don't get me wrong, it still got me 😂 but I love the feeling of a genuine scare that you don't know is coming
Another really cool thing I noticed: Zeus would *not* go into Adrienne's lab. It very much made it clear to me the dog had been punished before for wandering in there, possibly via shock.
good catch, damn
3 years late but I caught that too lmao
Makes sense why he loves the main character, Zeus probably wants to comfort her (this is just based off dogs I've know who are very empathetic and comfort their people)
A comment towards the newspaper printing about Adrien's death: TMZ published Kobe's death before his family was informed. News outlets rush to be the first to release information at the cost of traumatizing others or being incorrect.
Exactly. A newspaper can publish without exactly confirming
They were told from law enforcement officials not random people or family members
@@rosestokoe4580 Could've paid off some cops
@@DakMT exactly exactly exactly exactly exactly exactly exactly exactly exactly exactly exactly
News sources all over the place also reported Stephen King's "death" back when he got hit by a van a little over 20 years ago despite the fact that he never died.
This movie is about my dad guys
Mine too
That’s sad too
No dad squad✌🏽
big bucket333 wow
Your dad suffer from abusive relationship and decided to escape and find out later that his partner die but in fact using a invisible power to stalk him and trying to ruin his life? Wow that’s tough...
I work in a domestic violence shelter, and I appreciate Leigh Whannell's dedication to getting abuse "accurate" in that it accurately tells warning signs, and the impacts on the woman, and how abusers try to isolate their victim and gaslight them
And I appreciated how it showed that the abuse was over a long period of time. She was intelligent. People always ask why they didn't leave immediately? But abuse sneaks up slowly sometimes and you can have a whole life with a person to make you feel trapped.
The best thing is that the dog is okay.
Kimilia thank you for confirming. Now I can safely go and watch this movie haha
I don't get why it went back to his house though when she went to get the suit
@@fukkandre seeing how big the gates are. The begining scene was what prevented the dog from escaping as well, since she was in a rush after the alarm. So the dog stayed there. Dog returned in her revisit, and then left with her in the final scene.
@@kimishou I think Adrian was secretly feeding him the whole time
@@HorrorLover Probably
I was pretty sure that leaving her money in his will was to make her come out to the office so he could find her and follow her. Before that he didn't know where she was.
I never even thought of that! That's so cool
The only thing with that is the letter was sent to where she was. So he must’ve already known where she was.
@@trevonnebeatty14 I'm pretty sure her sister brought her the letter.
Something of note to mention: the part when she steps outside of James' house - we know it's cold from her visible breath changes - and then suddenly there's someone exhaling next to her. She never notices it, but we do. I think that's pretty cool.
Our entire theater straight up gasped when the sister got killed. Oof I'm so glad we (my brother and I saw this). I had just show him OG Invisible Man.
Same here. I could hear a lot of people jumping in their seats. It was awesome.
I was caught off guard when Sydney got punched, but I was genuinely SHOCKED when Emily's throat was slit. I sat there, unable to comprehend what had just happened, just like Cecelia did. My jaw literally dropped.
@@RhinBeoulve I heard myself gasp when Sydney got hit. And my brother started choking on his own spit lmao.
Yeah you just fucking had to spoil it, didn't you? Lol
I was just like :0
The whole time I was watching this movie I could not stop thinking about Zeus and who was taking care of him when Adrian was “dead”😬
they probably had an automatic dog feeder or something, at least, that's what i want to believe
The scary thing for me was realizing someone was living in the house the whole time because someone had to be taking care of the dog and I instinctively knew she was in danger.
44:43 if I may interject, I once had a similar thing happen to me when I was a kid. A girl punched me so hard I fell onto the ground and knocked me out for a split second. Her sister came to try and help me up and I thought she was the one who punched me when I came too because she was the closest one to me. Getting punched when you don't expect to be punched is wild man. I could totally understand why Sydney thought Cici hit her.
I still don't buy it. Sydney wasn't knocked down or unconscious. Also, she an Cecilia weren't arguing. They were laughing together. She had NO logical reason to believe Cecilia did it. If it were me, I would have thought "What the hell just hit me?!" I'd believe it was a ghost before believing it was Cecilia and I don't even believe in ghosts.
@@Joker_JAK have you ever been punched so hard that you've been knocked to the ground?
@@bondfall0072 I've been punched harder than Sydney got punched. However, if it happened while I was looking at my friend and we were laughing together and my friend didn't move an inch, I wouldn't think my friend hit me.
@@Joker_JAK fair enough
Also, there is a brief moment where Sidney glances away from Cecilia, and thats when she gets hit by Adrian. I agree that Sidney could have realized that she was too far, but her brain is naturally going to assume what's happening when you're in body is in danger to protect herself.
A cool thing about the jellyfish quote were she refers to Tom as a jellyfish is that when there’s the fight in the house when Tom attacks them. Sidney is wearing pjs with jellyfish on them referencing that it’s Tom and not Adrian fighting them
To answer your question about security cams in restaurants: Yes. There are so many cameras in both the dining area and the kitchen area and usually there's is a manager watching the cameras at almost all times. Someone definately would've seen the floating knife and that would've been able to be used in court as well
Perhaps Adrian would've knocked out the manager and/or disabled the cameras? It seems like the murder was premeditated since the fake email he sent to cut off Cecilia's contact with her sister also doubled as evidence against Cecilia.
Also, if I'm remembering correctly, he used the kitchen knife he had previously hidden in the attic; he wouldn't have brought that along for no reason - he brought it to use it (perhaps because it would have only Cecilia's fingerprints on it). So yeah, I imagine he would make sure his planned murder wasn't recorded.
I feel like it really depends on the restaurant. I've worked at a couple large chain restaurants and we didn't have any security camera inside or outside at any.
@@konstance13 same. The one I work at has some cameras but they're all in the kitchen/cash register/ outside area, none showing the tables
The guy that plays Police Guy James is one of the sexiest men I've ever seen in my whole life.
How about the amazing camera work? The first pan to an empty hallway when she's getting ready to leave him. There's so much tension and suspense built around the camera pans. It's like they're training us to look at empty space and suspect that there's something or someone there, so from that first scene on...any pan or any time there's empty space in the scene you feel like he's there or questioning yourself and going as crazy as Cecelia.
that camerawork deserves an oscar... when it turns into the halls and goes into a wide angle and back... its amazing.
finally got to watch the movie last night and my boyfriend and i were talking about the movie this morning and i said the exact same thing as you! i love that it pans back to her and it’s just her, nothing crazy and nothing there at all. i loved it
As a victim of domestic violence, I started to tear up and
the urge to walk out in the first 15min of the movie. I'm glad I didnt, it was a good movie. He handled abuse and ptsd really well. The worse abuse is the psychological kind, the kind you can't see nor prove.

Cindy Ashley You’re extremely brave for sharing this. I’m glad you were able to stick with it and enjoy the movie.
Now when James’ voice goes high, he sounds like Herbert from family guy
I thought that to
Or Adam Sandler.
We were literally in Cecilia's shoes feeling jarred after it's revealed that the brother is the invisible man all along while Adrian was held captive. This simply doesn't fit the narrative we've been following. So, this leaves it up to us viewers to decide if we trust Cecilia's gut feeling that Adrian orchestrated and manipulated the whole thing (framing his brother somehow and appearing like a victim). Since we did not really see much of the abuse, only Cecilia's recounts and the aftermath, it's easy for a character like Adrian to manipulate us just as Cecilia claims she has been.
Also notice that when it's Adrian in the suit he's ruthless and could kill with ease. Unlike when it was the brother (in James' house ofc), he had a hard time trying to kill James and his daughter Sydney (who was wearing a jellyfish shirt btw). The Jellyfish version of his own brother.
Nobody cares
I will never get the time it took to read this back....I blame you for my early death
Isabela Louise you missed a key point where you figure out he was in on it as well which is when at the ending they were at the table and he repeated the same words to her in the suit which is “surprise” that gave away the fact you as the audience and her knew he was in on it too

As i abuse survivor myself i did feel the tension much more strongly in that 1st 10 minutes. I had tears just falling down my face but i wasn’t sobbing it was just very relatable and emotional. But it was an amazing movie that i loved
i nearly cried when cecillia was talking and opening up to her friend and her sister. the way her eyes dart around, looking for any reaction as if they are going to immediately attack her is extremely relatable
marsclaws omg yes! I could feel her fear and I remember how I felt not knowing where my abuser would be and you can imagine how much more impacted that fear would be if he was invisible.

There’s a point where she goes back to the house and since Adrian is dead everything is covered by white sheets and there’s a scene where she is walking down a long hallway in Adrians house and there’s a statue at the end of it and it’s covered by a white sheet so It looks like a person may be standing there and you can see Elisabeth Moss’s reaction which is both tentative and scared. It’s a great nod to the og.
I personally found the ending to be a little sad. The system failed her and the only way she could defeat him was to become as manipulative as he was.
doesn't mean she's gonna be a psycho like him. Now she and her child are free! Plus its satisfying seeing her beat him at his own game. Respect your opinion though!
nah, i don't think manipulative is the right word. she gave him a taste of his own medicine, and got revenge for her sister

I GOT THAT SAME FEELING ABOUT TOM’S ACTOR! I could have sworn I had seen him in something, anything before, but looking into it he hasn’t been in much. It’s the strangest thing.
John Joubran SAME
I thought he looked like a slightly more grown up version of George Mackay (the protagonist of 1917)

Working in estate law - a death certificate is issued by the funeral home - you don’t need need a death certificate to have an obituary written up in a newspaper etc. 😊 a lot of times though the funeral home would have contact the newspaper for the deceased’s family and give them the information the family wants printed just as a courtesy service but as the estate lawyer sometimes I do and sometimes the clients want to do it themselves
I totally believe that punching scene. I was punched in the side of the head while in the middle of a bunch of guys who were getting pissed at me, couldn’t tell who the hell did it
For me, James hit the nail on the head with his criticisms. There were so many bits of the film I loved but there was so many little nitpicky bits that irked me too.
QualityApeMan how about why does Adrien have two invisibility suits in the first place? How are they powered? Are there cameras on the soles of his shoes? Can’t people feel the weird suit when they fight him? Does it hurt more to get punched with a fistful of tiny cameras?
@@TrekBeatTK Also, why doesn't he cast a shadow? If he was truly invisible like in the original Universal film then it would make sense that he doesn't have a shadow, but here he just appears to be invisible due to a bunch of cameras and screens on a suit. I think he should probably cast a shadow, and as a result he would be pretty easily spotted :p
QualityApeMan maybe projectors as well as little cameras?
@@QualityApeMan glass doesnt have a shadow, same applies here

1. because he needs more in case one gets damaged
2. they literally show you in the movie
3. yes? dude what kind of question is that
4 and 5. why would you need to know that???? who the fuck cares about if punching cameras hurts
2 minutes in and watching James get so excited for being able to go high on the vocal register made my day!
Did anyone else notice that when the scene where he was snapping pictures of them when she looked up there was a mannequin with the exact outfit did the original Invisible Man wore.
I thought I was the only one who thought that! I literally said to myself "nice easter egg."
Another Easter egg was her seeing the fully bandaged man in the hospital
YESS
james and chelsea mentioned both of those easter eggs
Yes, also in the Hospital there was a Man wrapped up in some stuff just in case you miss that easter egg to
The first name of the main character, Cecilia, is derived from the Latin Caecus which means blind or eyeless, Appropriately, she cannot see the Invisible Man. She is frequently called 'C' in the film, which, obviously, is pronounced like 'see.'
The opening sequence originally had original music written for it, but Leigh Whannell and the sound design team felt it worked better with silence and the sound of the crashing waves.
No actors' names appear at the beginning of the film.
The outside wall of the mental institution has a graffiti piece depicting Billy the Puppet, the doll the Jigsaw Killer uses in Saw (2004). Director Leigh Whannell wrote and starred in Saw (2004)
“More movies are coming out this year”
*laughs hysterically*
*sobs uncontrollably*
Has barely even started and I already love this episode 😂
Leigh Whannell explained in an interview that he met with a group of Australian optic scientists during his research before production and they explained to him the suit idea is possible. Definitely more modern and different to the serum idea in previous films and Leigh wanted something more realistic so that’s why he went with the suit idea to become invisible.
That jumpscare during the first reveal of the invisible man on the ladder was fucking terrifying!! I knew it was coming and I STILL jumped straight out of my seat. It’s such an insanely good scene and will stick with me forever.

You ruined your joke by explaining it at the end.
Aww man, this was released right before the pandemic hit the fan and it's kind of sad to see how excited they were about the upcoming movies.
This was actually the last movie I saw before the lockdowns.
58:23 "where did we park the invisible boat mobile!?"
"I'm in your room
And I'm in your bed
And I'm in your life
And I'm in your head"
To the dog: “I’m sorry, I can’t take you with me” 😭😭😭
The phone was my biggest point as well.
BUT mind you I'm already talk about this movie that is based on manipulation if she bought the bait and turned the phone into police the police might beat her down more by saying (a sponcer to most) an Apple iPhone has the ability to take pictures on a timer. (The future of technology and what it brings is scary)
I feel like that was cut as there was enough depiction of a person being terrorised. You can't say the police do that to in the time we live in while making a timeless classic.
I imagine Adrian as just Onision but actually acting on homicidal tendencies, which makes the ending even more satisfying--
I'm surprised this movie wasn't about Drax.

That was a awesome joke.
He Has Mastered The Ability To Stand So Perfectly Still That He's Invisible to The Naked Eye
The DevilHunter, it was, you just couldn't see him because he was so still.
42:20 The sister was probably the first to realise that Adrian was abusive to Cecilia but Cecilia back then was probably at the point where she thought Adrian loved her and convinced herself that she made him abuse her even though he chose to. He probably played the sisters against each other as well probably by telling Cecilia something like "Oh she's just jealous I'm with you and not her."
James and Chelsea, congratulations on the engagement! #soulmates
They finally remade that documentary about John Cena.
“We still have a lot of horror movies coming out this year.”
Me, when I remember the year this movie came out; oh no
“We’re gonna have a live show on March 31”
If only they knew
They were so innocent
I saw the movie last Saturday, and the one thing that irritated me was the fact that when Cecilia's sister was killed, security camera footage wasn't used to clear her name. Like, I'm pretty sure there would be some sort of serveillance in restaurants. I still enjoyed it, though.
If Invisible Woman isn’t just 180 minutes of Elizabeth Moss killing abusers, I will riot
I hear that Elizabeth Banks is supposed to be the character but that sounds weird, like why wouldn’t it be Elizabeth Moss?
A lot of the movie gave me a very Carpenter vibe-specifically Halloween- for the growing suspense of the film, but mostly for the creative use of negative space in the frame and simple yet deliberate action sequences! Just started this podcast and am loving it so far!! Keep up the good work!
I'm like 30 minutes into this movie and haven't listened yet so if this point was made already, apologies. But they REALLY missed a golden opportunity to make this movie legendary. How do you NOT cast JOHN CENA as the invisible man. I'm only half kidding
The guy can afford to pay off EVERYONE and afford ANYTHING, it's the most believable part of the movie
51:10 Here's a good tip! Don't eat the magic wall cotton candy, it will end with a trip to the E.R. And that's why I can't help my dad with his house projects anymore!
This is a great comment.

My mom and I really enjoyed this too and it was about time as so far horror this year has been disappointing. Can’t wait for Candyman, Antlers, Antebellum and all the horror movies coming out this year
Real quick, “The Way Back” starring Ben Affleck IS a personal film for him that he can relate to in his own personal struggles aswell as personal addiction struggles for a lot of people on this planet and it looks AMAZING. Nothing corny about it. I hope people don’t go into it belittling it just because it reminds them of an old 90s/00s sports movie. Most of those movies are great. But anyway...

I know I broke my jaw in an accident a few years ago; I immediately leapt into action and used a notebook to write down short sentences, which probably helped the EMTs, but I had still had to go get my jaw set (morphine is the best; I felt nothing), jaw wired shut for a while, and drop out of college for a semester.
My mum had to translate for me (like rubbing my stomach meant I was hungry, and a few times, I did it to slip out of things I didn't want to do)
i was in an extremely abusive friendship and when i left i was absolutely terrified that they'd commit suicide because when i left everyone realized that they were a trash can and also left.
We need a new, good Frankenstein movie.

Watching this in January of 2021, and all the talk about what they're going to be doing for the rest of the year is a knife in the heart.
when the invisibled man punched sydney, it would have hurt less if cisilia punched her because she was sitting and had less charge in her arm
My trypophobia was triggered with all the cameras on the suit. I felt so itchy.
bisexual culture is both james and chelsea freaking out about Hunky Friend James’ triceps
#5 bugged me that he let her steal the pen and hide it without figuring out that she is going to do something with it. #6 the whole killing him was so fast comparing to the rest of the movie. Like she put the suit and killed him in less than 30 seconds. I loved it tho. The music at the end I was like.. you go JUNE ❤️
He probably thought she was going to make a note or something for James but it would only make her look crazier. I also feel like the death made since as anyone would be tired after a fight and he had been fighting with James for a while, was pepper sprayed and then got shot a bunch after possibly being injured from the pen stabs as well. I think it could also be a nudge to the fact that it was the brother in the suit and not Adrian himself, who definitely has a more built body
#5 i noticed that too, but i think that he probably looked at tom whenever he was going to pick up the stuff she shoved off the table. that’s my best explanation. but then he would have seen her stick it in the shower, soo yeah your note to james theory sounds good. #6, i also thought that was odd. and to the person who replied to your comment: she’s talking about the throat slit, not tom’s death
I was of a similar opinion to James, except a lot of these moments took the believability out of the film for me. The points frustrated me so much that I couldn’t love the film because of it. Still a good film though
I find it strange hearing about Aldis Hodge and being super jacked. For me, he'll always be Alec Hardison from Leverage. Age of the Geek, baby.
This movie is a perfect example of the phrase "Just because you didn't see it doesn't mean it didn't happen." This movie hit me too hard... :(
I know I'm late to the party on this one, but regarding taking the bloody bottle of diazepam to the police, that could have possibly implicated her in his death, and surely would not prove his existence in her home. It's not as if she also reported them missing to the police, so taking them in wouldn't prove anything at all outside of the fact that a bottle of her pills, which are in her possession, is also smothered in her now dead ex-fiance's blood. Not exactly a good look ya feel?
I liked the move overall but some things did bother me, first the hospital scene where all the security guards are getting messed up seemed very goofy and didn't fit in with the tone of the rest of the movie. Also some characters decisions seemed pretty dumb too. I don't get why Adrian would leave money for Cecilia if he just planned on making her look crazy and losing it all.
Jaden Spohrer nobody’s motivations made any sense. I feel like this movie had a coherent plot that got lost in rewrites.
Well, look up false obituarys. Alot of rich people have premade obituarys and some have been released before the person has died.
I think we should all have a moment to think about how great this idea for a modern remake of The Invisible Man is.
Perfect on this rainy day
I really liked this movie. I saw it with my boyfriend and he’s pretty unimpressed about everything and even he enjoyed it.
However, my favorite movie so far is the Lodge :) I hope one day you see it too.

Love the special guest appearance of the beautiful kitty cat 💖💖
My childhood bedroom, which is now my son's room, has the only access to the attic as well!
I figured rather than believing in an invisible guy who has been reported dead took the pictures, James would probably think she took a timed photo with the camera on a tripod or leaned on the ladder. Yeah, that would be a lot of effort for not super good evidence, but he'd be more likely to assume that based on the contradicting evidence to her story.
The invisible person that shows up at Adrian's house could be his brother which would be how he arrived faster. We know they both have one besides the suit she hid because she damages the one Adrian is wearing at the facility then Tom shows up to kill James and Sidney in a fully functioning suit that's not glitching.
At first, I yelled GET THE GUN BITCH!!! Then when I thought about it, I figured she didn't because we see new guards arrive and when they first get there they don't know there's an invisible guy attacking them. I assumed she waited because if more new guards arrived again, at first glance they'd see shot guards and her holding a gun they would react and shoot her before finding out there's someone else there they can't see.
I saw the movie and thought it was a fantastic movie but I had a group of teens next to me who would talk, scream and literally started taking selfies in the movie, worst audience experience
20:01. I had a different interpretation about the shoes when I saw the movie. When you compare what she wears for most of the movie to the clothes she has in Adrian's closet, and the final dinner scene, it's all fancy dresses and heels, but none of it feels like it's hers, she's just wearing an extension of him, (and she did say that he controlled what she would wear). So I saw her decision to wear tracksuits and comfy pants and trainers was her autonomous decision to free herself from his influence and wear what she felt comfortable in.
I think even if you didn't believe in poltergeists or ghosts, if you were hit like that young girl was, you would stop being skeptical in that moment, and not blame a best friend that would have zero reason to punch you, especially due to the positioning of the characters. Not that Adrian is a ghost or poltergeist of course. Maybe in that instant you might think your friend punched you, but logic would kick in after the fight or flight response. I agree with James on having an issue with that scene. I did too.
Omgggg I actually teared up a bit at the beginning. I’m so so happy for you, James!
What about Hollow Man? Does anyone remember that Kevin Bacon movie where he's a scientist who becomes invisible. This was definitely better than that but the invisible still goes nuts.
I let you now that i have always a fan of horror films and vids especially of yours James i like scary stuff. And your channel is the best where to get that.
Oh, and some restaurants have cameras and some don't. It depends on the budget, the liability concern, insurance, etc.
I say this as someone who has a close friend who's worked in about ten different restaurants. Even when there are cameras, there can be blind spots, or only selected parts of the restaurant under observation.
I like to see longer podcast but I may be selfish wanting more which is amazing talent you both have at always being so intriguing and interesting
I loved the way the movie handled the subject of abusive relationships. It wasn’t gratuitous but it wasn’t glossed iver
I have to say even though it has been a bummer not seeing movies in theatres for so long, watching new reviews and coming back to these older ones that are fresh from the theatre. I really appreciate them (newer) more because you guys have been reviewing a ton of incredible films available on streaming that you can rewatch to make sure you catch every detail when writing notes and also discover new things on second watches. I relate to it more as a viewer and I often rewind or rewatch films I enjoy and like to discuss them and although I do love these older reviews, I think the newer podcast deep dives have just gotten better and better
(Also maybe bias coming back 2 years later after watching the KC and seeing the film 3 times and finding it a bit frustrating when they say, "oh maybe I didn't catch that part or didn't remember" and I also don't have to write notes!) so love you guys, love your work- just wanted to say again love the growth of the channel
You guys missed talking about the part where the brother said if she was diagnosed as crazy she'd lose the money
