Actually BYD is safer, simply because of battery chemistry. LFP batteries in BYD burn slow, like a regular gasoline car, you have time to escape the car if you are conscious. NMC batteries in Tesla burn like rockets, you might not have time to unbuckle the seat belt.
Actually the jacking points for the front wheels on my Land Cruiser is the actual frame. And it is really thick. It's Incredible that so many people doesn't understand how physics work, if you look for hardness you are asking for a worst accident, because with hardness it doesn't bend it breaks... It's interesting how people take their vehicles to extremes, like the SU7 tests. The problem is that taking the vehicles to the extreme voids warranty, meaning it's a waste of money. Since Tesla cuts prices by reducing security, means worst problems like phantom breaking, and that it still uses Lithium cobalt nickel magnesium, batteries which are more likely to catch fire while exposed to oxigen. Not to mention that insurance price is almost entirely Tesla's fault, because of the Tesla's cars crash epydemy, on the US it's the vehicle that has been involved on more accidents that any other car, a lot are blaming the "autopilot" and reckless Drivers, but phantom breaking is a major problem with Tesla cars. And have been the cause of a lot of accidents. If the quality from BYD and Chinese electric cars is an issue, why is Tesla not investigated? Quality control problems, faulty autopilot, faulty security braking, battery cells not being properly isolated. In reality Tesla is the number one on customer claims after buy, for their cars. Of course that doest happen to most cars, since their sells could collapse. But it is definitely a much more unreliable manufacturer than other car manufacturer, even worse than Chrysler. The ban on Chinese cars is entirely moved by economic interests, so that the US keeps it status quo as the more powerful economy on the world

@oscarbarragan6675 there are many grades of steel. Most steel is just iron and carbon. Its cheap to make but is the weakest and has little corrosion resistance. Alloy steels are much stronger and have better corrosion resistance. Stainless steel has high corrosion resistance. Tool steel is alloy steel but the materials used increase the hardness and heat resistance. Just saying something is high strength steel tells you nothing about the properties of the steel used. Thats assuming the steel used in manufacture wasnt substitued for cheaper steel somewhere along the manufactuing process
@supernova743 yes I know steel my cousin is a structural engineer and he has shown me a lot. The steel I am referring to was structural rebar sold to the Philippines. It was found to be substandard and caused the Collapse of a bridge there that luckily was empty at the time of the shaking. If failed to do exactly what it was supposed to do. When I showed my cousin how easy it was to bend a 1 inch thick piece of rebar he was shocked by the weakness and how brittle it was. It was a miracle the bridge had no collapsed prior to that.
@-V-K- aluminum is just terrible to use in things that go through to much stress, aluminum breaks over time from any amount of stress. steel however has a range of stress that it won't degrade if it's limits are not passed.

not to take sides, but at 1:30 (lepard 5000), did the owner cut the press-weld along the frame rail? cutting that weld will destroy any uni-body construction, Nor-Am, chinese, won't matter. Additionally, at 2:15, the damage to the suspension rails (although very weak-looking) appears to result from dropping force, not pulling, or the hitch holding a great weight aloft. Did someone catch a rock on the axle? As for the rest of it, shame on you BYD, maybe some more carbon in that steel i guess?
He is not testing the uni body as a whole but the mettalurgy itself, and questiong its design strength. I dont think he cut it of but it was damaged frome off road use.

I was initially going to say that unibody cars can be surprisingly flimsy in certain spots, then he grabbed the edge of that mount and twisted it off with ease. Nah, that's pure Chinesium metal. What's upsetting is that BYD et al can provide pre-sale samples to NCAP. Meaning they can produce samples with the correct materials, fasteners, and welds for crash testing, but then dump garbage on the market after they get their rating. AFAIK, it's rare to get a repeat test of a car generation that goes largely unchanged. So you could game the system by continuously pumping out "new" models, getting a good rating, and then cut back on quality as soon as you get it. Then again, they may just sell garbage on their own market and sell better quality abroad for a higher profit margin. As foreign countries will actually do something about stuff like this. The Chinese people are forced to more-or-less accept what the well connected provide. Such is life in a culture that actually has an expression: "If you can cheat, then cheat."

He then used that sled for the rest of the winter. When I saw those guys bending that metal on this video, I thought of those sled runners made out of frozen fish. At least the frozen fish were good enough for what they were used for! That eskimo was a true craftsman! If a guy living as a stone age hunter gatherer could do that well with just what he had to work with, why can't byd make a car that is tough enough to stand up to off road use?

Steel doesn’t bend/break like that but aluminum does.
Actually, VERY mild steel DOES bend and deform like that and that is probably what they use.
Chinese steel does bend like that. Chinese rebar I should never be able to bend as its almost an inch thick I could bend.

At least the frozen fish were good enough for what they were used for! That eskimo was a true craftsman!
