If you looking for coues/whitetail don't spend time in Alpine, all I see is mule deer. I see them multiple times a week crossing my land. My neighbor says he has seen them on occasion but have never seen a coues anywhere near Alpine and I see muley's almost daily. What we really have is elk. The further south you go the better according to scouts I've talked to over the years.
Ive hunted 27 since the late 1970's. Back in the day, they had 2 mule deer hunts. 4 day, and 10 day, with approx 3000 tags available to draw. Drawing a mule deer tag in 27 these days is difficult.
I hav hunted 28 for coos, they are not easy to find! What u will see are lots of mule deer that hav crossed with coos, small heads with mule deer racks
I just got back from my second trip to those units. Last season was Mulies and this one Cousies. Beautiful country out there
27 is a great, awesome unit for all species in general. 👍

First time putting in for out of state, hopefully I draw a Couse tag. My own state of New Mexico didn't like me this year. Good luck everyone!
My daiughter drew a Unit 27 late rifle tag - woud love to pick your brain!
