Thank you for this information Devin. I have had Desert Rose for a few years and they have never bloomed until this year! Two of them had the prettiest red blooms! I was so excited! I am going to try to take some cuttings.
Really great video and a perfect explanation! I’m about to attempt my first ever desert rose propagation and out of all the videos I’ve seen, yours is the best. It’s so nice when someone explains the process instead of just playing music which only leaves me confused. I also love the plants that you have in the background. I’d love to know what they are?
Hello again! I’m just getting into growing plants and taking care of them. I’ve always been interested in it and now I finally have a big enough place that I can go wild in lol. To be specific about the plants I’m interested in on your video are as follows… 5:16 minutes - In the left part of the screen. 5:51 minutes - The 2 pots behind you & the one on the windowsill on your left. 9:36 minutes - All of the plants! 😂 My apologies for taking up your time because I’m sure you’re a very busy person, but I would really appreciate it. By the way, I live way down in south Louisiana (Zone 9B), if that helps. Thanks again and I look forward to watching more of your videos! Best Wishes from your new Coonass follower!

Thank you so much for the info! I do have one more question about something that’s driving me crazy. So of course when you research things online, you get all kinds of contradictory information. I just potted up my first ever Desert Rose cutting and after some pretty extensive research, I’m lost as to whether to place it in the shade or sun? I think in your video, you said shade, but a lot of other websites say that they love full sun. So there’s my dilemma lol. I think I’d rather go with your opinion because it looks like you know what you’re doing, so any advice would make me feel better. Thanks again! 😅
Very helpful. I live in Israel. From about April to about October we get no rain and temperature in the 90s and then the rainy season comes. The temperatures may dip down into the 40s F. Do I need to bring my adenium inside for the winter, or just try to keep it out of the rain unless the temperatures dip toward the 30s?
I would definitely irrigate it during the dry season and during the winter you can leave it outside as long as temps are above 40F, but the best is if you can keep it somewhere sheltered from too much rainfall
Thank you for the video. Edit: One more thing: You will not have a caudex when you propagate an Adenium. Only Adeniums from seeds will have a caudex. A couple of comments: When cutting the stems from the mother plant, it is recommended to cut diagonally for two reasons: If there's moisture, it will drip away and down the diagonal cut, and when new growth starts, it will overcome the actual cut, and you may not be able to see the cut in a year or two. The second comment is about the new leaves of a propagated stem: It may take two weeks to three months to see results, depending on the area, the type of plant, and mainly the soil (not the water). Having new leaves after a few weeks is not a sign of roots. Adeniums fight to survive and keep pushing new leaves even if the plant starts dying in the soil. It is critical to have patience with these plants.
Desert Roses are such slow growers (for me) I only have 3. ALL Grafted. Might a hormone powder be used on these cuttings? Mine are now on a South facing porch, under an overhang basking in the Hot Sun😎 ps. I used old aquarium gravel in the soil mix to make it Super Fast draining.
Got your desert rose red ones from qvc last year they are profusely blooming all summer love it . I need the white -red ones please, cant find it in qvc
9:44 "Now you know how to propagate your adenium desert rose successfully so you can create more and more plants..." To my husband's horror. 😂😂 I am following this as I perform your super duper plant witch doctor magic on this desert rose my brother gave me yesterday. I have about 9 cuttings I saved from pruning. It's about to get a lot more crowded in here! MUAHAHAHAHAAAAAA!
@@plantvibrations OMG! I did everything exactly as you described in this video. Last night was the end of the two weeks after placing my cuttings in soil, so I watered them. And this morning I went out to check on my babies and I have new growth sprouting! 😁😁 I wasn't expecting to get such fast growth, but here we are! Also the original "mother" plant has a ton of new leaves coming up after the pruning. I pan to give a few of these babies as gifts.
Hi Devin, I purchased 10 dessert rose seeds from a garden center and they all germinated fine and look very healthy, but I am concerned that I am doing something wrong as they are now 1 1/2 months old and about 2 1/2" tall, the leaves (starting their 3rd set) are tiny, about the size of a pencil eraser, and the stem has yet to start looking like a nice swollen caudex. Most seed started DR plants I see on UA-cam show baby plants about the size mine are at, approximately 2 months old but with the normal size leaved and a very well defined caudex that is already showing the distinctive wood like trunk. Any ideas as to where I may be going wrong here? Thank you for your help.
I both your desert rose threw QVC and got it in may and I kind of surprised bcuz it's kind small than I bought 2yrs ago its kind big it did not survive bcuz I forgot outside and didn't bring inside for winter and rainy skin other words it soak of water it's purple color and it's only $39.95 .But the one I bought is small and it cause me $49.95 and I'm trying to take care this time and I water only once a week our weather here in California is over 100 degrees and I worried not to survive my desert rose.

I love your clear explanation. Can't wait to try again as I killed too many of my adenium cutting by overwatering😢.
Give it another try!
It's really the same here after that I don't dare to do this
Using seeds is easy.
I have never succeeded with the cuttings.
@@Pippie5555 really? I never try it before
I’ve heard DR will not grow a large caudex from a cutting. Only DR grown from seed will produce the desired large caudex. Is this true?
I’m currently testing this theory! Will let you know
@@plantvibrationsI wonder how it's going? I have a cutting growing great but not a large caldex. I expose more of the caldex when I report it.

I just got one but it seems to be a graft onto a base, could I still propagate it next summer? Is there an updated video?
You can still propagate it. I don’t have an update video but my lil props are growing slowly but surely
I need your help, my desert rose feels soft. I haven't watered it since the beginning of November. What can I do to save it?
Give it just a few oz of water and see if it firms up over the course of a couple days
Will the cuttings develop a caudex?
It is generally thought that they won’t produce caudexes like seed grown plants
