I came here to tell you all that Monkey Island is my childhood game. Ron Gilbert taught me English through Fatty Bear and Monkey Island. This game series means more to me than it probably should
I'm sure if you really wanted to know, you would by now, considering you had 7 years to google before this comment. :p But yeah, its him, as an inside joke, coz he really didn't pay any attention or assistance to the devs.
I love the remastered version. They did a bang-up job and I'm happy to have it in my Steam account. My ONLY criticism is the character animations are a little stuff when they move.
I wish there was a way to hear the voices in The Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition, but with old grahics. They did that in Monkey 2 Special Edition.
There is a fan patch for this remake that extracts the voices and adds them to the original game. So you can have a fully voiced Monkey Island 1 in ScummVM. This fixed one of the biggest problems with this remake: disabling voices when switching to classic graphics.
I wonder why they never made the game into a movie. The original Guybrush Threepwood looks like Dom Monaghan (LOTR) and I guess you could have quite some good cast together in case LucasFilm would make their effords to it (Missy Elliot as Sword Master?, Kurt Russel as Capt. Smirk?, Andy Sirkis as Otis?, Jim Carrey as Stan?, Donald Sutherland as Herman Toothrot?). No clue who could do LeChuck (Ian McShane?) or Elaine Marley, but I guess you guys might know someone. Would be so cool to see a movie made from this.
Corey Leonardo Borgert Actually the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie script started out as a Monkey Island script. That's why there's so many similarities between characters. Guybrush Threepwood -> Will Turner, LeChuck -> Barbossa, Voodoo Lady -> Tia Dalma, Elaine Marley -> Elizabeth Swann, Undead pirates -> Undead pirates. The monkey island movie never came to be and Disney wanted to make a movie out of their theme ride, so they reused the abandoned monkey island script.
The old version looked so much better, literally oozes charm, unlike the remake. The new guybrush looks awful, the character animation is awful, it just looks awful, soulless.
@@mattyjohnsson257 Big problem with the new version is that they smooth out the sprite movement, so you have these low-framerate animations just sliding smoothly all over the ground, which looks really unnatural.
I'm so sold. However, bringing back the gems from the 90's to the new audience is definitely cool and all, but isn't it time to bring us some new awesome franchise Lucasarts?
Of course the Secrets. Tales Of Monkey Island is in 3D, instead Secrets Of Monkey Island is in 2d, it's a really old game, but it has special edition too, so users who don't have 95 windows or dosbox could enjoy this game.
These nerds did a terrible job remastering the game. If they were going for “that classical animation style” they didn’t so much drop the ball as take the ball in a bathyscape expedition to the deepest part of the Mariana Trench
The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition comes out for PC and Xbox 360 Tales of Monkey Island episodes come out for PC and Wii Unlucky , you shouldn't have gotten a PS3
Ooh there's a remastered version (instantly switches back to old style).
That new art-work was not especially great anyways..
Yeah, the title screen is great though. The rest I just stick with the Talkie Edition mod
3:26 I'm so happy Guybrush got to be an old man. Its been over a decade, but the dream came true!

It's a great game.
I played this as a kid aswell, and I just NOW noticed something. Is the guy in the trollsuit George Lucas??:P Sure looks like him^^

U bet!
I love the remastered version. They did a bang-up job and I'm happy to have it in my Steam account.
My ONLY criticism is the character animations are a little stuff when they move.
That's because they practically just took the original code and just replaced the (so much better) original art and re-worked the audio.
I wish there was a way to hear the voices in The Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition, but with old grahics.
They did that in Monkey 2 Special Edition.
My friend, there is :) Been around for longer than your comment infact :O It's called the Unofficial Talky Patch, go find eet and have fun!
@@CrashHeadroom Holly monkey bladders, thanks!
They need to release these versions on the Switch. There is a whole generation of young kids that would love to play this game.
The original version brings back a lot more imagination and wonder. The new version it just feels so empty and soulless.
This game really is epic. They have done a perfect job restoring this. I could not fault it. I still have the original on floppy disc!
I wouldn't call that hand painted, more like "photoshop filtered".
About bloody time :)
They did such a good job
i feel the sudden urge, to complete the trials
I wonder how the interviews with Ron were PRE-COMMERCIAL-EDIT.
Isn't it time to re-make this so-so re-make??

I've. Been. Waiting. So. Long.

MasterOfTheUniperse The game was absolutely inspired by the ride.
I came here thinking everyone was gonna' be splooging over the remaster... you have all made me proud standing up for the original :')
Yes!!!!!!
The old version looked so much better, literally oozes charm, unlike the remake. The new guybrush looks awful, the character animation is awful, it just looks awful, soulless.
Well the animation isn't much to do about since it's just built upon the original code, but I totally agree with the rest.
@@mattyjohnsson257 Big problem with the new version is that they smooth out the sprite movement, so you have these low-framerate animations just sliding smoothly all over the ground, which looks really unnatural.
LOVE.
Yes!!!!!!!!!
Yeah mine too. Im 16 now
GAME OF MY YOUTH
As long as they don't release it in porcelain format....i HATE porcelain...don't ask :P

true.....
it's pontless to redo backgrounds in Photoshop, while you have normal hand-painted versions just lying around the place.....

The new graphics are an abomination.
Agreed!
I think i just creamed my pants
How many of you pirated the original?
I did. Now I bought both GOG versions. As well as almost all of the games i've pirated and played when younger.
: )
OMG it looks like shit~!
OH NOEEEESSSSSSSSSSS
Worst!
