But the moment their numbers started dropping, everyone shit on it because r/place isn't where you should be making political statements, and because it was so ironic that ukraine supporters were protesting the invasion of Ukraine by invading other artpieces and trampling over them.

It’s such a cool idea and makes me feel like the internet can still come together for at least some good. Im excited to see a time lapse of today’s r/place as well.
I wouldn't say it achieves anything good or bad. It just is what it is which happens to be very interesting. It does make communities come together but it also definitely creates some hate. Extremely entertaining as a viewer watching it unfold. I can also see why they don't do this often. It encourages people to get into an endless fight for land and barley even sleep. Even as a viewer I spent an unhealthy amount of time looking at pixels.
As a UA-cam frog I found myself chilling in the live, Matt at one point said "This feels like classic/ old twitch" I couldn't agree more. Felt like Chat was in charge and the streamer is making fun and content for us at the same time

Plus if you watched life of streamer video, miz does have a schedule of people possibly coming over. Above all else was just bad luck that this reddit war start same day. sadge I hope they do something further down the line again and nothing to the scale of a reddit war interrupts.
