Fire Up Chips! Class of '75 - I truly enjoyed the way CMU was presented and the wonderful growth that continues. Lots of great memories and I credit CMU for helping me grow as an individual. CMU - a university so great that it sits in the middle of the state so everyone can attend!

Hey There Future CHIP! I wish you well during your senior year in High School. Enjoy building memories which last a lifetime.
I have watched with interest as CMU has grown and changed since I left. I travel the 2 hours several times a year to attend Homecoming activities, football games and basketball games. I also meet my SPE fraternity brothers there during the summer for a 3 day golf outing. It is always good to be back at my second 'HOME'.
CMU. like most colleges, is what YOU make it. Some students leave on weekends to head home. Some party like crazy - some party sensibly. Many attend the weekday and weekend sports events. The Mount Pleasant community has a small town flavor and locals and student mix well with mutual respect and little or no confrontation. Class size is perfect and the faculty, while top-tier, willingly interact with students in a way missing on many campuses. Professors, not grad-student, lead classes which often doesn't happen at larger universities.
The campus is still compact enough to traverse on foot or bicycle. I had a car my last 3 years as I chose to live off-campus. The CMU population is diverse, but students accept one another, grow close and share life experiences. I have not been inside the dormitories for many years, but I believe that they continue to be 4-person size ( 2 bedrooms / 1 four-seat study-living area / 1 bathroom with shower). Food was great, but I'm not a fussy eater.
My oldest son is a CMU Honors Graduate. He as voted Freshman of the Year and rode in a Mustang convertible in the Homecoming Parade. He graduated in 2008 and was chosen and awarded the Dean's Academic Excellence award as the Honors Program top graduate. Proud Dad Here!
The Native American Chippewa Tribe, still located around Central Michigan, remains closely associated with CMU and continues to approve of our CHIPPEWA nickname and proud heritage . . . unlike Eastern Michigan, Arkansas State University, Dartmouth College, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, McMurry University, Miami University and others who decided to change their university Native American nicknames.
I'm pretty sure that most alumni speak fondly and highly of their university. Around Michigan you sometimes hear "Go Blue', 'Go Green', 'Go Broncos', 'Go Lakers', etc . . . but only the fortunate and united graduates of CMU proudly continue to wear their Maroon and Gold colors and greet each other forever with a boisterous . . . "FIRE UP CHIPS!"
Enjoy a trip to Mt. Pleasant, experience Central Michigan University, become a CHIPPEWA and . . . "FIRE UP FOREVER!"
