Chris gasped and slowly looked over at what Tomar was pointing at
Then the words "Thats you Chris" fell from Tomars powerful bearded lips. Chris' mind went ablaze with fear and cum. Some say he still locked up in the insane asylum on top of the hill to this very day.

"That's telling you when you can parry: when it shines"
that is literally the exact opposite; you can parry everything except attacks that make it shine red.
typical Tomar trying to sabotage Chris, I just knew there was bad blood between them behind the scenes and this act of CLEAR aggression confirms it, it's something about the way he talks to Chris, like he wants to peel the skin from his skull then crack it open like a soft-boiled egg and dip toast in the brain juices

    • @boRalto

Striking with the pommel is actually really smart. When your enemy is wearing plate armour you can't cut them, so your best option is to flip your sword around and bludgeon them with the part of your sword where the all the weight is.

That’s actually somewhat historically accurate. The blade of a sword is sharp, but it isn’t sharp enough to cut metal armor. It is blunt enough to palm. And if you just have padded gauntlets you can grab your blade, and grip the flat without much fear.
If you are fighting an armored opponent you might grip the blade to get more accuracy and force to try and pierce weak spots in the armor. You also might grip the blade and use the pommel as a blunt instrument and aim for joints, or head to attempt to incapacitate your opponent and kill him then. Or ransom him, he is after all wealthy to have so much armor.
Point is slashing does not work on armor. Piercing can work on armor sometimes. Blunt beats armor hard. But if you have neither a mace, nor a spear, nor a bow, you’ll need to get inventive.
This all gleaned from casual interest in the subject. A historian can tell you better.

The grab by blade, hit with guard or pommel is an actual historiclly accurate move used against armored opponents, called a "murder stroke." They also didnt hurt their hands, bc they had gloves, it wasnt enough movement to "cut" into them, and also the pressure of the grip was alongside the blade funnel, so the sword didnt even necessarily rest against the palm of the hand. FYI :)

Videos like this are never recommended to me, and are actually pretty hard to find. I wish I could filter a channels videos by watched/unwatched. Constantly recommending me best of videos that I never watch, and basically any compete series that have already watched. It can sometimes be months and months of recommending me the same videos I've already seen, it's bizarre.

    Tl;dr swinging a longsword upside-down like a warhammer happens/happened in real.
Grabbing the blade of a longsword is totally legitimate and used in two techniques; half-swording and the mordhaus.
Half swording is holding the handle with your main hand while your off hand holds the middle of the blade. This is used to either wield the sword more effectively in tighter spaces, or more commonly for guiding the tip of the blade into the gaps in an opponent's armor.
The Mordhaus, (the move seen in this game) is holding the blade with both hands and wielding the sword as if the cross guard was the business end of the weapon. The purpose is to use the guard as a hammer against armored opponents. A strike from the blade against a helmet or shoulder plate would be blocked or otherwise glanced, but a blunt force strike can negate the armor's protection, especially against the head.
The other use for the mordhaus is using the guard as a hook to grab an opponent by the ankles and trip them, pretty much a death sentence for anyone in heavy armor. You could attempt to do the same thing to an enemy's shield in an attempt to rip it out of their grasp, but it takes significant strength to do, even if they're just holding it by a single handle. If it's one of the smaller ones that's strapped to the forearm, forget it.
Performing either of these techniques is not as dangerous to the user as you'd think. Medieval European weapons were sharp but they weren't sharp sharp. So long as you're at least wearing gloves there's no serious risk to the user's hands getting cut by their own blade unless you really go nuts.
    Hope you found this interesting.

In Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA) gripping a sword by the blade is called half swording. A sword swung while half swording is called a "murder stroke". Contrary to popular belief, half swording most likely will not damage your hands, especially if you are wearing protection.

Not to be THAT guy but grabbing a sword by the edge is a proper technique and a very popularity used one at that, it's called Mordhau and there's a very popular game that features it with the same title
I know most media has gotten us used to the idea that it would just slide in your hand but as long as you grab using your fingertips against the upper palm of your hand it's not only safe but optimal to use the pommel as a mace
back in the medieval times nobody clashed swords because it was both a technique that leaves you wide open for attacks and make the weapons not last at all, getting broken with just a few swings so most of their techniques involved grabbing the edge
It's not very prominently shown in media but there's games where you can do it, and it's also the reason Guts could grab that spear, except he wouldn't bleed like everyone makes it out to be, this kind of edge is more optimal for striking, it's not like grabbing a shaving blade or something

2:48 To be fair. The concept of using the hilt as a hammer/blugeon while holding onto the sword end is an actual technique. It was used against knights and other armoured opponents that couldn't be cut traditionally.
I think they called it "murder striking", which sounds pretty badass. It's basically medieval rifle butting.
