Have you noticed that he doesn’t get upset nearly as much or as often whenever Zach or Chris accuse him of some wild or absurd action? I can’t wait to see what they do with him in the future.
Striking with the pommel is actually really smart. When your enemy is wearing plate armour you can't cut them, so your best option is to flip your sword around and bludgeon them with the part of your sword where the all the weight is.
7:17 how Tomar said, 'You're going to slip him on like a fucking glove' with such familiarity made me feel like he's said it many, many times perhaps on a daily basis and sent chills up my spine.
2:48 That’s actually somewhat historically accurate. The blade of a sword is sharp, but it isn’t sharp enough to cut metal armor. It is blunt enough to palm. And if you just have padded gauntlets you can grab your blade, and grip the flat without much fear. If you are fighting an armored opponent you might grip the blade to get more accuracy and force to try and pierce weak spots in the armor. You also might grip the blade and use the pommel as a blunt instrument and aim for joints, or head to attempt to incapacitate your opponent and kill him then. Or ransom him, he is after all wealthy to have so much armor. Point is slashing does not work on armor. Piercing can work on armor sometimes. Blunt beats armor hard. But if you have neither a mace, nor a spear, nor a bow, you’ll need to get inventive. This all gleaned from casual interest in the subject. A historian can tell you better.
The grab by blade, hit with guard or pommel is an actual historiclly accurate move used against armored opponents, called a "murder stroke." They also didnt hurt their hands, bc they had gloves, it wasnt enough movement to "cut" into them, and also the pressure of the grip was alongside the blade funnel, so the sword didnt even necessarily rest against the palm of the hand. FYI :)
Lyle: "Maybe he set those traps, because there seems to be a lot of human shaped guys dead there but not a lot of him shaped." Crafty deducing there lmao.

Tl;dr swinging a longsword upside-down like a warhammer happens/happened in real. Grabbing the blade of a longsword is totally legitimate and used in two techniques; half-swording and the mordhaus. Half swording is holding the handle with your main hand while your off hand holds the middle of the blade. This is used to either wield the sword more effectively in tighter spaces, or more commonly for guiding the tip of the blade into the gaps in an opponent's armor. The Mordhaus, (the move seen in this game) is holding the blade with both hands and wielding the sword as if the cross guard was the business end of the weapon. The purpose is to use the guard as a hammer against armored opponents. A strike from the blade against a helmet or shoulder plate would be blocked or otherwise glanced, but a blunt force strike can negate the armor's protection, especially against the head. The other use for the mordhaus is using the guard as a hook to grab an opponent by the ankles and trip them, pretty much a death sentence for anyone in heavy armor. You could attempt to do the same thing to an enemy's shield in an attempt to rip it out of their grasp, but it takes significant strength to do, even if they're just holding it by a single handle. If it's one of the smaller ones that's strapped to the forearm, forget it. Performing either of these techniques is not as dangerous to the user as you'd think. Medieval European weapons were sharp but they weren't sharp sharp. So long as you're at least wearing gloves there's no serious risk to the user's hands getting cut by their own blade unless you really go nuts. Hope you found this interesting.
