For those wondering what the fun machine is - its an accompaniment organ from the seventies that josh has - and judging by the song title it may have stopped working : )
The 1st version of this song I think was a jumbled mess and it fit Lullabies better. This version is PERFECTION and sounds like a Vulgaris track. I honestly don't know what some of you people hear. I think 'yer ears are broken/ Like a broken box.
@@tanveerhasan2382 All these years later and I've still not seen a place where you can buy a physical copy of this song. It may have been on some European releases? I'm honestly not sure. I hope they give this a real release someday.
For those wondering: I got this on a one-track CD, that came with my internet pre-order of Era Vulgaris. By now, I don't know where you could grab one.
@billthejanitor I think it is on a version of the Era Vulgaris album. Me and my friend both have it, but I have "Era Vulgaris" at the end and he has this instead. Both songs should be on it as standard IMO.
October 2014, Santiago, Chile. 14.000 lucky bastards (myself included) were able to listen this masterpiece Live (a very rare event), played to perfection by the band ( Kudos to John Theodore, cause i know for a fact that Joey Castillo would have, as usual, rushed the tempo).
@gizmothedog It's an old crappy Synth from the late 70's or something. It's basicly a cheap mellotron with a funny name. You can hear it at the end of Caligulove, Them Crooked Vultures.
I wouldn't mind buying a best of... Usually if a band is nice enough, they'll throw a few unreleased or new tracks on it towards the end as well as possibly a dvd. Sometimes I like to hear just the 'hits'... But I understand where you're coming from with the 'greedy' comment.
i actually like the old version a bit more.. I don't like the guitar in the beginning.. But I also like this one more than the old cause it's more up-tempo... And this 1 is also extended..
When you think about it, "ten pounds of shit in a five pound bag" doesn't make much sense. Pounds are a measure of mass, not volume. For example, a typical trash bag might contain 50 lbs of trash but the bag itself probably only weighs 0.1 lbs or less. Trash bags are rated by the volume they hold, not by the weight they'll hold. A better phrase might be "10 gallons of shit in a five gallon bag" although admittedly it probably wouldn't fit into the song so well.
The only example of such a bag I can think of is dog poop bags but I don't think they advertise the amount of shit they can hold and 5lbs would seem like a lot. Maybe if you have a really big dog like a Newfoundland or a Great Dane, I'm not sure. More research is needed.

Oh i thought they just couldnt find a name for it so just went fuck it but thanks for letting me know
you think the members of qotsa ever look at each other and say "holy shit we're awesome."
I know they do
Sure
"You're ten pounds of shit in a five pound bag.." Best delivered insult I've heard in a song
I like how at 3:00 it changes tempo and a new riff is Born, just like in Supa Scoopa and Mighty Scoop when it jumps into half time.
This track is unreal. The insturmental is insane, that's fucking groove
This is what genius sounds like.
😂
Joey just fuckin killin those drums!!!!......holy fuck thats good
"You're 10 lbs of shit in a 5 lb bag." "Oh this is bound to be good. You can't... but you thought that you could."
It was supposed to be on Lullabies to Paralyze, actually, but it says in the booklet that the tapes for it were "lost or misplaced".

Where can I find the first version

SO GREAT! These guys are gods!
Excellent song...I think that it would be a welcome addition to Era or number 6...
lmao i looked this up and i haven't even bought era vulgaris yet. on the sleeve of LTP it says this tape was lost , hahaha, this is sick
For those wondering:

That's so cool
This is just one of those tracks that should be on everyone's playlist. It is fucking awesome.
So true!! Never thought about it, but that beginning reminds me of the brown album!
Awesome song by the way!!
A masterpiece
Killer tune.
@sixplus6 Hopefully that fun machine didn't drop a stool and subsequently croak.
josh homme is a fucking BAD ASS
these guys are so cool its frustrating
I'd say the version from over the years and through the woods is the best version especially during the pre bridge part.

@gizmothedog Its a keyboard... quite possibly a synth of sorts but I can't remember exactly
why wasn't this included on the album?!
anyone know where i can get this song from?
cheers.
x
3:32 is the greatest photo ever.
the fun machine is an electric organ like the hammond organ. its called the baldwin fun machine :)
i think they have one in rancho de luna.
Not on the uk version. In fact, as far as I'm aware only available on the American presses.
i took this vid and died
Yes!!! Im glad someone else thought that :D
it's on the era vulgaris record
Sounds a bit Primus-y in the beginning. Gotta love QotSA though. :]
fucking EPIC
best song title ever
@gizmothedog its a type of moog synth... im pretty sure.
Fuckin' killer track.
No One Knows... of this song, sadly
@gizmothedog
It's an old crappy Synth from the late 70's or something. It's basicly a cheap mellotron with a funny name.
You can hear it at the end of Caligulove, Them Crooked Vultures.
where I can fing this song?
O.O wow... i can only fin the old mix :(
i don't suppose anyone can upload this song for DL, i've only got the old version and this one is just so much more well done...
@billthejanitor it was, in Europe.
this sounds more cleaned up but still got that ruff sound to it.
correct.
WHATS THE GUYS VOICE IN THE MIDDLE PART EVEN SAYING IS IT A RECORDING OF A COP IS HE SPEAKING ANOTHER LANGUAGE
I WANT TO KNOW THIS AS WELL! It sounds like a movie sample but I can't understand what he's saying.
Could it be Robert Mitcham??
Yeah I just saw that on my album... lol..
its on german, mexican and argentinian releases
i have the tour edition
I fucked to this song...good stuff..I recomend it
What the hell is that picture at 3:33 ? xD

10 people are 10 lbs. of shit in a 5 pound bag
QotSA performing on a show called Popworld
i took a shit and died after listening to this song, and im okay with that.
like the original studio version better, sounds rougher. sounds best in concert though. 12/18/07 at the paramount in seattle was a rockin show.

@goodhitsofthesummer what?!
Suits lullabies more than era
@GianTheMan91 Popworld.
i actually like the old version a bit more..
I don't like the guitar in the beginning..
But I also like this one more than the old cause it's more up-tempo...
And this 1 is also extended..
it wasn't on the original Era vulgaris becaus ethe masters got left in another studion and they didnt have time to get them. Well, as i understand..
You kiddin' me? The old version had such a sloppy composition. I liked it, but I'm glad they revamped it for the Era Vulgaris bonus.
@cudatheferocious Popworld
Wasn't this song supposed to be on Lullabies to Paralyze but the tapes got lost or something?
Yes.
@@mosesgarner2404 No
hahahah
thats true
It's an amplifier i think.
That's because it's on LULLABIES TO PARALYZE, Not ERA VULGARIS. :)

Unless you have a bag that is measured by how many pounds of shit it can hold. Seems that's the case here.
Your nerd is showing!

sounds like it belongs on the 2nd album
I don't. I enjoy the new verse that kicks in at 1:39. Makes the song even better. Both versions are great.
I prefer the version on Over The Years And Through The Woods :)
I think that this song is about having an ego death, similar to "Everybody Knows That You're Insane"
Misfit Love is also about an ego death
lol, they seem to be acting like Kraftwerk xD just look for some live videos of them.
OK, AT 3:30 WHEN THE FUCK DID THAT HAPPEN?!?1?!??!?!
meaning, the cd didn't, the vinyl did. sorry.
3:32...what the hell?
who doesn't :P?
1:16 L.
uh, no one's did.
The live version is much better
Well, I am from Utah, so I have the American version.
its on german, mexican and argntnian releases
i have the tour edition
