Thanks for your videos - very informative. Question: I understand the need for certification, but it’s not clear when to have a stamp graded. Several stamps you showed appeared to be well centered, but were not graded. TIA
I only get graded if I think it will be Very Fine or better centering and completely sound with no faults. That way it will be worth close to the catalogue value. See this other video I did explaining the different grades. Go to the 2:20 time in the video ua-cam.com/video/X6W7F4-iGoA/v-deo.htmlsi=91NYhX7J5v8lYOC7
I thought a couple of the stamps that you included in this video would have graded 80 or better - maybe there were faults. Also, which of the expertising sources do you recommend for grading - most objective in judging centering?
@@2020VAyes they can be perfectly centered but if they have a fault then I may get it authenticated if it’s a more valuable stamp, but not graded. I go with PSE professional stamp experts for my grading. Sometimes Crowe will grade if I’m sending off a large group to him. But 90% I go with PSE.

Back in the 60s when I was a kid local stamp shop had US Zeppelins for 50$ 75$ 100$ mint... good old days
@@JohnnyCollins-cv4gx indeed the good old days. That’s what makes the zeppelins such good investment stamps. They continue to go up in value.

Glad you enjoyed it 🫶
Good video! I would say that the 475 is way too heavily toned for it not to be mentioned on a cert and subtract (substantially IMO) from the grade.
I dont recall seeing that. It may be my lighting. Will have to take another look.
