      Certainly it did handle it quite well, and with better cooling might even take more, however Photon could maybe have pushed much more into it if the transformers hadn't caught on fire. A different , more cappable power supply, instead of the built in transformer, is what I think would help to successfully put more power into the tube.

    Does anyone care to explain why the glass bulges out in this way?

    • @Photonicinduction
      @Photonicinduction  9 років тому +118

      Plasma forming on the inside caused a hot spot, the glass may be pressurised or under vacuum, either way, soft glass will either bulge or pull inward.

    • @wobblysauce
      @wobblysauce 9 років тому +2

      Noam Chongsky Same as when you cook food, you need it spin or it will just sit in a hot spot and not heat up evenly.

    • @dumbo800
      @dumbo800 9 років тому +1

      If you observe glassblowers, you'll see them take a small torch flame (usually very hot, though, like oxy-propane or another oxygen fortified flame) and heat a small area. Once a localized section is hotter than the rest, a small amount of pressure from the person on the end of the blowpipe will bulge a section out.
      This is just doing it all with the power of a microwave.

    try to hook your 2kV high power transformer on the magnetron (ofc powering the filament) and cool the fuck out of the magnetron, should give a nice show.

      Mr. Merp they did, now the only good show i can find is Dovetastic, id reccomend his channel, he started the microwave show thing, just dont get mad at him destroying brand new things, hes an artist, he buys the stuff brand new, microwaves it, and sells the result for 5x the price, he also microwaved a microwave that was microwaving a lightbulb, he set off a few car alarms, set off a minor earthquake, and knocked out power to his neighborhood :)

    Viewer # 28,471. Oh wow..... It's time for Busta to energise the windings, there's a microwave to bust! :D
    I have to say that the smoke, sparks and flaaaaaames you got coming out of that were quite impressive! I bet that notched-up a few amps on the amp-meter!
    Another transformer in the microwave? Aaaaah, but Mr. Photon..... You forgot _"The Mega MOT"_ This microwave could have been ripped up to silly-stupid-kilowatts with _"The Mega MOT"_ stuffed in there on the power circuit. :D
    The way I would've rigged it, is.....
    A standard MOT on 240v and use the 'heater circuit' in it so as to get the heater in the magnetron working, then _"The Mega MOT"_ could have taken care of current-delivery duties by stuffing some serious kilowatts into the magnetron for the optimum poppage!
    Would that have worked? How would _"The Mega MOT"_ have coped on the output of Busta though?
    Do you reckon that _"The Mega MOT"_ would have handled a slight overvoltage for a few minutes?
    Another thing as well..... When that second transformer let loose in that microwave..... *_What the heck was that bottle-rocket screaming-off sound, and where was it coming from in there?!!_* ABSOLUTE LMAO!!
    Yes, I heard you laughing your backside off in the lounge as it let loose. That was a classic _I POPPED IT !!_ laugh right there! I have to say, I screamed out a loud laugh more-or-less at the same time! ROFL!!
    How on earth did the magnetron survive this? Or didn't it? I've still yet to work out where that bottle-rocket scream-off sound came from in there! :D Was it that high-voltage capacitor which is found in the majority of microwaves whistling-off because you overvolted and vented it?
    If you still have the microwave and the magnetron is still workable, could you do a re-take on this and use either _"The Mega MOT"_ in there or one of those gold transformers connected to the magnetron?
    Really, I think it's something that we'd all like to see..... _WAAAAY TOO MANY VOLTS_ stuffed into a magnetron! :D
    Let's see what shapes could be thrown in the microwave and what interesting scientific sounds could be gotten out of that magnetron!
    I think a lot of us would be mighty impressed if you could do to a microwave, what you did to that toaster and kettle!
    Imagine it now..... The world's first domestic 3kW microwave. I am sure that it'll be a UA-cam First!
    Go on, get in there.... RIP IT RIIIIIIIIIGHT UP and let's discover the Ssssatisfaction! I wanna see it Glowiiiiiiiiin' in there!
    Thanxx for showing,
    -BoomBoxDeluxe.

    Those magnetrons are some mighty strong components it seems. Both times it seems like the transformer gave out and not the magnetron itself.
    I wonder what happens if that thing is fed some mighty high(er) voltages than what it would get from that transformer?

    Pure...electronic...JOY!
    Dude I work QC on industrial stuff for a living (PLCs, motor drives, VFDs, Servo drives, etc...) and I wish I could do this to SO MUCH STUFF
    Of course our techs will do that themselves from time to time...nothing like the FOOM of a reversed cap or the hearty high pitch CRACK of an incredibly expensive IGBT array destroying itself. Yeah that's right, we consider our drives team to be part of the IBGT community. LOL!
