    One of the factors in food recipe preparation is the French term “mise en place” or things in place. You want to have all of your ingredients prepped, and arranged so that you can just grab the next item on the list, or the needed knife or spoon from the array on the counter without interrupting the flow of the process. Toby, one of the things that make your videos “watchable” is the pre-planning of the shots, and staging of parts and tools for a smooth flow through the procedure. At 10:15, you can see ALL of the needed screwdrivers for the assembly lined up like “soldiers on parade” and “ready for their close-up.” Well done, sir!

      Many mfgs thought they had a better way. Of course, the other reason is they could bypass patent licensing requirements if they designed their own 🙂

I was "AMOST" surprised when you didn't break out the old stamp kit and stamp a #12 on the throttle plate. (smile)

    I don't know if it applies in this instance - but most float level and float drop measurements on the air horn are usually done with the gasket in place. Obviously you should check your manual to be certain. It probably doesn't matter in this instance, because tractor float levels are fairly insensitive to small differences. However, this can make a big difference in automotive applications, especially on carbs from the 1970s upwards. It affects fuel mixture (somewhat) and more importantly the float bowl refill under hard acceleration. For example, the Quadrajets on the largest GM motors would go lean at the top end of 1/4 mile tracks which could damage the engine - because their float bowls are so tiny. Any time float level and float drop is specified on a carb, it is an unwritten rule that it is to be done with the gasket in place on the air horn, unless specifically mentioned otherwise in the manual.

    • @squatch253
      @squatch253  2 місяці тому +1

      The single float carburetor found on the Farmall H needs the float level to be measured with the gasket in place, but this dual float M carburetor needs to be measured with no gasket.

    What was the tool you used to grab onto that little bushings with ? You must have a small bushing driver kit to put them in too .Nice
    Quality work. It's going to be like a new one. back to the video. I want to watch the float adjustment. I know that's critical.
    When I was dumb about carburetors when I got my 1st H ( now I have several). I couldn't get the float adjusted no matter how
    hard I tried, or how many rimes I took it apart. Then one day, I bought that little steel ruler and made a measurement to little cut out piece
    I cut out of sheet metal.to use as a preset gauge, to make it easier .Been decade & a half ago but I think that's how I learned to adj. a float.
    Now I realize when I kept repeating it ( taking of the carb & setting it diff. & reinstalling it.) I must of just kept doing the same wrong thing.
    You can't guess. But another guy says you can by eyeballing it, for double checking the measurement He made like it was so simple.

    Great! two questions, First I take it you don't soak the carb in a Liquid Carb Cleaner, but would that have helped loosen things up so you did not need to press things out and aid in the disassembly ( yes I know this should have been in the other Video).
    Second, if you are bending tabs, shouldn't you remove the float to do that? I can only think of 4 people I have seen rebuild a Carb or may have, (You, Sr, Pete, Kenny) and it seems like that was a important comment from them.

    • @squatch253
      @squatch253  2 місяці тому +1

      The guy whose M this came off of soaked both halves in his bucket of carb cleaner for a few days before bringing it to me, so I skipped that part. The floats are permanently attached to the pivot frame, so you just have to be careful not to damage them if you end up having to tweak the frame to adjust float level.

    When I rebuild the carb on my W6 I noticed the original discharge nozzle had much bigger holes in the sides than the new replacement nozzle did from the kit. This caused some problems for me when trying to get the tractor to run right under a load. Fixed the issue with some numbered drill bits but I wonder if your discharge nozzle on the bottom half of the carb will have the same thing going on?

    Observation. I like to compare Farmall letter series models. Looking at your H and comparing it to the 300 I noticed the H had a single float compared to a double float on the 300 knowing the engines are nearly identical. Maybe the 300 more like the Super H engine cubic inch wise. Question does the Super H have the double float like the 300? Is there a difference between between your two W-4 models as far as single vs. double float? Makes sense if the engineers were trying to get more power from the Super H/W-4 models and the 300 compared to the H /W-4 Models.

    • @squatch253
      @squatch253  2 місяці тому

      Yes, you’re right on track with the carb differences - the regular H and W-4 had the smaller single float carb, but the Super H and Super W-4 had the same dual float carb as the 300, which is also a very similar carb to what was found on the M 👍
