I posted this in another YT video that analyzed the elevator scene and how well done it was. When i saw this movie as a kid in the 80's the first thing i also noticed was Egon backing up into the corner. But when i watched it a few months ago i noticed stuff i didnt notice before. Look at Dan Akroyd and Bill Murrays faces as the pack is switched on. Bill Murray has this "wtf is that sound" look on his face as his eyes change and he looks over. Dan Akroyd's face doesnt change much but i like how he is looking up at the ceiling and as the sound comes on his eyes shifts down, then quickly to his left and then it starts to sweep to his right and then his head slowly starts to turn. Its just funny seeing their subtle reactions in that one scene.
"dont look directly at the trap" "i looked at the trap ray" fucking that right there has to be my favorite part of the movie. because that is something *I* would do.
The GB script was *full* of stuff they dropped or changed, like how Ecto-1 was originally all black with purple UV lights, and was haunted. But the bit about not looking at the trap was because doing so when it was triggered would rip your soul out of your body through your eyes. This got scrapped and reduced to basically "the trap's brightness can blind you."
It's not about radiation, it's about the pack detonating. Which is the point of the joke: If the pack explodes, it's going to takes miles of city with it. That couple of feet doesn't mean shit.
Who didn't want to be a Ghostbuster? Especially as a kid growing up in the 80's. The proton pack is the coolest (and probably heaviest) pieces of hardware in cinematic history. The sheer sound of the thing makes me want to get down and bust some heads. In a spiritual sense of course.
+Draven I say the proton pack is superior because there is never a sense of danger when one is wielding it compared to a lightsaber. A Jedi may have no fear when dealing with anything because they have the Force to go along and enhance the weapon whereas the proton pack is all you need to confront anything that might be daunting unto you. Plus, you can’t bust ghosts with a lightsaber...
That's what mostly disappoints me about Ghostbusters 2, they don't use their packs very much and seeing them use them back to back in this UA-cam video just proves how much more they used them in Ghostbusters.thank you!
Just goes to show you... in both movies they only used their proton packs in just 4 major scenes... about 7 minutes total... just shows you that plot makes the movie, not the effects.
This is what I loved about the original ghostbusters. They weren't some ninjas in a costume, they were genious yet bumbling baffoons with nuclear proton accelerators.
I love how the hotel manager is trying to keep a straight face while the Ghostbusters are trying to catch Slimer! That scene had me laughing when I first saw it.
Just goes to show you... in both movies they only used their proton packs in just 4 major scenes... about 7 minutes total... just shows you that plot makes the movie, not the effects.
David Jimenez That’s kinda why old Star Wars works, yeah, they use lightsabers, but a good majority of the movie’s focus on the blasters, a more common weapon that everyone has, it makes sense, the lightsabers didn’t enhance the plot, they were tools that enhanced the settings they were used, take Obi-Wan vs Darth Vader, two powerful masters well past their prime, they weren’t doing over the top moves, they let their words do the talking and just Parried each other, letting the plot itself do its thing and not the effects and tools they used instead
Peter: “Got your stick.” All: “Holding.” Peter: “Heat ‘em up!” All: “Smoking!” Peter: “Make ‘em hot!” All: “Ready!” Peter: “Let’s show this prehistoric bitch how we do things Downtown.”
p.s i love how peole say 2016 is woke, the same people who say jokes aren't funny unless its offensive, where gb proved that to be wrong, so many gags that were just great comedic timing and anyone can laugh at them
I have this whole concept in my head about my Internet reviewer persona, calling up to an orbital satellite and saying, "Bring down the Venkman Special!" and a pod drops to earth, and provides me an Iron Man armor equipped with a proton pack. I know, even I consider it cheesy as hell, but god, I would love it! Also, Marvel and IDW need to have a crossover comic about Spider-Man meeting the Ghostbusters.
I never understood why they never let Winston keep his awesome mustache, I get that it was to fall in line with cartoon, but it’s facial hair, everyone knows it grows back, even 5 year olds
Thats basically it, GB2 was meant to cater more to the fans of RGB than the original movie. Which is why the ghosts looked more "cartoony", Janine's glasses and hairstyle looked more cartoony (they even had Janine keep that look in the 89-90 season of RGB), Winston had no mustache like his cartoon counterpart, and Slimer was hanging around the firehouse. It's all about selling RGB merchandise since popularity was declining. Hell, in the original movie, they weren't even named "proton packs", they were just called "Unlicensed Nuclear Accelerators" and "Positron Collider". But in the Cartoon, they were constantly referred to as "Proton Packs" and somehow, it stuck around to where they were known as "Proton Packs" in GB2, onward.
Actually, the reason Winston does not have a mustache in Ghostbusters II was due to Ernie Hudson having shaved it off at the time. He mentioned it during an interview about a year ago.
so Egon claims the power cells have a Half-Life of 5000 years which I assume has to be a rounding of the number. So I checked and there are 3 potential candidates for that. Holmium-163 Curium-246 Carbon-14 Now, I'm pretty sure it can't be Carbon-14 but what do other people think is the element used between the two other ones or do you think it was just a throwaway line
I just noticed a continuity error for the first time in ever. They show the shot of the Slime Mold breaking up and _then_ cut to a shot of Louis switching off his stream. This means they failed to add his shot still going at the crumbling shield since he didn’t switch it off until after it fully broke and not during it.
I love how Egon backs up when turning on Ray's Proton Pack.
I posted this in another YT video that analyzed the elevator scene and how well done it was. The man fucking knows.
For years I just thought he was trying to turn his on by pressing against the wall.
brad stryker when the man says very bad he means very bad
@@TheRealPeterVenkman1984 no that isn't bad, what's very bad is if you "Cross the Streams"
"Each one of us is wearing an unlicensed nuclear accelerator on his back."
Like there is a licensed one?
There are hundreds of licensed nuclear accelerators, their not something made up for the movies, weaponized ones were though
There's at least one at CERN.
I have an uncle in the NRC i bet he'd have an answer
@@Robert.R.83 probably. But the answer is likely classified and he wouldn't be able to share that knowledge...
🤣
anyone else enjoy the sound of the proton packs turning on?
i love it so much.
It's the sound any 10,000++ RPM hard drive makes when it's spinning up.
yeah
I enjoyed it blasting.
Zoras88 I do. I enjoy when the sounds vibrate my pack :)
"dont look directly at the trap" "i looked at the trap ray" fucking that right there has to be my favorite part of the movie. because that is something *I* would do.

The low, humming “queeeEEEEEV” is a genuinely arousing sound.
I looked at the trap, Ray
Most satisfying sounds in 80s movies: Proton packs, Light Saber, Predator's voice box and RoboCop's gun.
Aww, you left out, "Do, Ray, Egon."
I know that's just Blasphemy it's like missing out Great Scott in Back to the Future.
As well as "two in the box, ready to go, we be fast: and they be slow!!"
Yeah 🤦🏼♂️

i love how egon realises the radiation when he turns it LOL
It's not about radiation, it's about the pack detonating. Which is the point of the joke: If the pack explodes, it's going to takes miles of city with it. That couple of feet doesn't mean shit.

Mine is gdbusters
proton packs are purchsable with the REAL sfx, i saw a guy wear one when my local cinema did a retro showing of this film
to be honest. maybe in the future we could have a real proton stream capturing ghosts.
I'm 45 and i still want to be a Ghostbuster
Young Phoebe got to live out every kids dream of fighting Gozer with a proton pack.
"World we live in today...you shoot a proton stream of highly charged particles at someone...they get all sue happy!"
"We didn't even burn her! I mea- there was *redness!* There was some redness."
The ps3 version he shoots at a bellhop lol
I was a 80s kid, proud to say i was a kid playing ghostbuster
Same, at school we would be peeing at the tray urinal and a friend's pee would drift near yours
_"hey, don't cross the streams"_
Same here LOL I have pictures of me in aHalloween costume of them
Had the pack the car and the trap still waiting for a real one going Ghost Hunting with out one feels.....naked.
"I blame myself"
"So do I"
Awesome lines!
The Ghostbusters proton pack is the second most awesome movie weapon in the history of film second only to the light saber.
Draven agreed. Also nice shooting Tex!!!
I'd like to see them face off.
+Draven I say the proton pack is superior because there is never a sense of danger when one is wielding it compared to a lightsaber. Draven Hell Yeah man. Proton Pack as your main, Lightsaber for your secondary/backup. You’re good to go.
I love that the stream was all hand drawn animation.
"I always hate this part of the business!"- Peter Venkman when putting the proton pack on (Ghostbusters 2)
That wasn't Venkman saying it. That was Murray.
There's no time for a bench test. Heat 'em up.

Well, at least we got more in the cartoon. "The Real Ghostbusters will return after these messages."
It’s cannon that the maid they shot at got a restraining order on the ghostbusters 😂😂
"What the hell are you doin'?"
Not anymore it's not. The video game is not canon.
"IF a supernatural being asks you IF you are a GOD, you answer with YES!"
If someone asks you if you're a god you say yes.

Always loved the sounds they made
Playing the game to really felt you were playing the 3rd episode of the films
you are. the game is gb 3
5:29 the sound of the Scolari bro’s screaming as they get sucked into the trap being part of the musical score was such a nice touch 🤌
The way Egon and Peter move away from Ray always cracks me up.
This is what I loved about the original ghostbusters.
They weren't some ninjas in a costume, they were genious yet bumbling baffoons with nuclear proton accelerators.
Two in the box, ready to go, we be fast, and they be slow, wow
RIP IVAN REITMAN, You are a legend... you are a real Ghostbuster! and still will be...
That full elevator scene where they discuss the proton packs is absolute comedy genius. It accomplishes so much and yet is hilarious at the same time.
“Man, I *love* that sound!”
I love how the hotel manager is trying to keep a straight face while the Ghostbusters are trying to catch Slimer! That scene had me laughing when I first saw it.

It's the rule of cool. The less the item is used the more special and important it is.
The streams in the first film are actually a lot better than any other ones recreated after it
It's crazy how the Proton Pack's screentime is only about seven minutes, but it is one of the most iconic movie items and is at every sci-fi con.
I actually enjoyed the second one as much as the first. Viggo the Terrible was a pretty cool villain.
I've worked with better... but not many.
I think the proton streams looked better in the first movie, more layered.
Agreed
Peter: “Got your stick.”
All: “Holding.”
Peter: “Heat ‘em up!”
All: “Smoking!”
Peter: “Make ‘em hot!”
All: “Ready!”
Peter: “Let’s show this prehistoric bitch how we do things Downtown.”
Egon at the beginning of the first one: don’t cross the stream egon at the end: cross the streams!!!!
Well, it did create a nuclear explosion which is what they needed to destroy Gozer's temple.
In the 2009 game, they have a cross stream governor to prevent mishap.
These were always the best scenes in the movies.
Venkman says I'm gonna take you home to my private zoo
Two movies and only 6 minutes of the best thing ever invented, a proton pack, shame.

GB2 uses the more familiar proton stream sound effect from RGB, which they carried over into the Video Game.

Can you do an updated version with scenes from Afterlife and the upcoming 4th film (when the leader hits home release)?

Cool. Seems like it shouldve been longer but thats all of em.
such a great time to watching both of them. but i just realize the exicting fighting part it just less than 7 mins from both movies.
They fuck up the starting sound fx in gb2… they put the startup sound when the shoot… but didn’t when the shoot the museum.
Its impossible to actually cross the streams because all four nutrona wands have the same polarity. The streams naturally avoid eachother
This is what you're concerned about in the movie with a 100 ft. marshmallow man?
Probably should have included the trap only scenes, of the park jogger and levitating items from the jewellery shop.
Now to update this with Ghostbusters: Afterlife’s clips
