This was honestly the best episode, next to 'Percy's Post', 'Arrogance/Mistrust' and 'Swan Song'. Tbh, the rail motors with buffer beams kinda shakes me up but as long as they're happy. Can't wait to see the The Thin Clergyman!!!
+Ffarquhar Engine I fully agree. Even though I'm from the states and see Knuckle Couplings all the time I still love the look of a engine with that red beam and buffers. It just brings something out in them.
I've been rewatching various episodes of both Modern Years and Early Years over the last couple of weeks, and I think this episode in particular takes the cake for my favorite episode of both. I guess I never really stopped to consider that an engine who couldn't pull freight might want to, at least not before this episode. Also, James' delivery in the opening scene was hilarious.
I was looking forward to seeing the Norramby crew again :) It was quite the unexpected revelation to come from the twins. and tossing James's dislike of trucks into the mix made it all the better. Gordon really seems to be their role model, his goings on (first retiring and then taking trucks nowadays in this case) always tend to have an unintentional side effect on them. Must say in that small scene he had, Donald's new VA did a fine job, I had trouble believing it wasn't yourself! haha
+TheHappyTruckShunter It was. Unfortunately, since taking the role, Cam has started tertiary studies. As such, he doesn't have time to record the lines.
Now that was very creative. The twins longing for something the other engines so often took for granted. The only thing that could've hurt them more than what they witnessed with Owen taking goods while they could not would be none other than seeing Daisy taking the Milk Van on Thomas' branch as she serves a similar purpose to them. It is quite unusual to fit buffers to 142 (144s?) but to be fair many's a railway has done some sort of unusual modification at one time or another :)
Ah, great episode. It's always a bit odd listening to my own voice but I must admit I think the vocals in this episode were particularly good. I can't help but grin every time I see that Class 56 model. Hehehe. My favourite class of diesel locomotive, as you well know. Very much looking forward to the special in a month or so.
I don't really watch this series often but the idea of having railcars that pull motor rail trucks is quite creative. I enjoyed this video. I might get around to watching the Thin Clergyman episode sometime and I look forward to when I do considering the fact I liked your previous works (what little I've seen of it anyway).
Once again, another fantastic episode! Everything on the North West Railway seems to be developing nicely as time goes on, especially with Evan and Edwin, keep up the good work!
Sweet! Nice to see TheBlueE2 in this series! Oh, Edwin really owned James there! LOL Meanwhile, ever thought of making HD videos and give them some widescreen action? Quality is just about everything.
DarthWill3 That wouldn't matter. HD for Trainz is currently beyond what my computer can do, and I've not got the funds to upgrade to a more powerful one at the moment.
I'll be honest, this episode was quite bemusing , I like James' little 'whatever floats their boat' 3rd engine role at the end, makes for an interesting plot. The idea of rail motors pulling cars is strange, but interesting to say the least.
+Percyfan1998 Well, it has happened before. In fact, that shot of one of them pulling a milk tank truck at the end was a reference to the fact that Daisy pulls them.
Can't wait for the next one, I really enjoy watching your videos, they are very well done and I always enjoy waiting each week for a new video to come out/ Keep up the brilliant work.
As usual, a well-crafted episode. Cam Jones (AKA StepneyComeBack) also did a pretty good Scottish accent for Donald. It almost sounded like it was you still voicing him. And I developed a feeling that your 70th anniversary special would be released around Christmas time.
huh... under 301... not like anyone cares anymore... good job on this episode!! great standard as usual!! looking forward to seeing STMY season 2 part 2!! keep up the awesome work!!
+ShadowHawkGames Yes, But there's no run around siding for a locomotive to run around the train to get the turntable. If you have the line on Trainz, You would notice this
Since Evan and Edwin are class 142 pacer DMUs we used to have class 142 dmu's running the line near my home but they were transferred back to northern in late 2011
Hey Dan, Just wanted to point out that Evin and Edwin aren't Railmotors. They're DMU's, this specific class has the nickname "pacer"...which also happen to be the absolute bane of any commuters life when travelling by rail.
I like to think Crovan's Gate Works made a few upgrades, finding a way to eliminate the squeal when they go on a bend, nicer seats, improving the defective heating systems that seem commonplace. The 'surf line' seems, to me at least, much more like a tourist line than a commuter line, much like the Lancaster to Morecambe branch. (Though there is a commuter presence)
Wildnorwester - I must say, I have some mixed feelings, but mostly positive thoughts on this episode, my main negative being that I have to wait until year's end for the next episode. But good things come to those who wait I suppose ^_^ At first my "OCD" was going crazy seeing Gordon pulling trucks without a hitch - it just seems like Gordon's persona forbids him from doing so without a prideful tantrum. Especially being that there are always commuter trains and branchline connections to be run. And then with Owen, built for freight, came in with coaches I was just like - I give up. LOL. Anyway, I think your series has done exceptionally well treading through uncharted ground so to speak entering the modern era. Being that your series has kept conservative with few original engines still surviving, I suppose it makes sense; not to mention that it is more realistic for engines to have sporadic assignments. Regardless, my main reason for commenting here was that I have a few questions - 1. What are Evan and Edwin's UIC wheel arrangements? (co-co, co-bo, bo-bo, A1A-A1A etc. etc.) 2. What is the station depicted at ~1:50?
Potential exchange going on at Tidmouth sheds before James was sent down the branch line. Note, it's a bit rough. TFC: James, Evan has gone in for his five yearly service. You're to be looking after his trains. James: Wait, doesn't Sheffield normally do that? TFC: He's on the Brandam branch, Edward and BoCo are quite overworked. You're the only engine available. James: (Sigh) Yes, ma'am. Stuck on a branch line for a whole week. Henry: (Jokingly) Look on the bright side, James. Evan's a diesel railcar. It'll be passengers for every single train. James: I take your point. But who'll be looking after my trains? Gordon: I could look after them, James. James: Er... sure Gordon. Just a reminder though, some of them are goods trains. Gordon: Oh, that's alright. (The other engines and the Fat Controller looked at Gordon as if he had become a tank engine.) Gordon: What? I'm no longer looking after the express so, I don't need to maintain my image. James: O...kay then. TFC: Er... Very well, Gordon. I'll arrange it.
it would be an interesting story if evan or edwans second half (the other "coach" that they both pull) was out of commision, and one or the other had to be the coach
I don't understand something: Why was Owen telling Edwin to calm down when his rant wasn't that loud? Given Edwin was calling James out on taking his work for granted, but I don't understand why it was such a big deal. Can someone please enlighten me?
+Thomas & Friends Minecraft Studios I started using the TVS Knapford before I knew about the RWS geography. By that point, I was stuck with it and changing it would have created discontinuity.
it be weird if boco the D2 class diesel be reunited with the other D class diesels and i have no idea if they well also meet daisy a passenger diesel rail car... i think this well be a family reunion or something...
hey i have a question? how do i get iris to work because when i downloaded her, she wouldn't show up in the railyard but it said she was installed! can you help me figure it out?
+wildnorwester when's the next episode coming out? Or it this the end of the series this year? If there is ever another casting for the scott's twins i'll certainly be trying out!
+Pam Thompson I have already said that the next video will be out in early January. In fact, I just announced the release date on Twitter - January 9th. I've had to balance production of the special against real-life commitments, and so have had to push it back.
This probably isn’t the best place to ask but, how do you get the Scott model (jointly made by you and SodorWorkshop) to work? I have three missing and unknown dependencies.
I have to ask a question WNW: What made you switch models between the early years and the modern years as I didn't see any info on this. I know its a bit late to ask but better late than never, right? :p
+Anthony Savio There were two main reasons; I wanted the main cast to match the original characters I was doing, and I wanted them to look closer to the RWS illustrations.
Having had experience in the UK rail industry now, it strikes me that we've never seen Evan and Edwin coupled together, so their unique couplings were pretty much useless. If anything, I'm surprised it took Owen's idea for them to get standard couplers. But a good story nonetheless.

Another really good episode. But, no need to be rude but, I felt like Owen should've been the main focus of the episode, no offense though. All in all, it's nice to see more of Edwin and Evan's character in this episode and get an update for the "RWS"/"Thomas'" 70th Anniversary late next month during Christmas. Does this mean that the next X-Mas special will be late again?
+The Detective Librarian Oh, you mean the episodes about Christmas, rather than the episodes at Christmas. This is just the end of part 1 of season 2 - part 2 of season 2 will be coming next year. The Christmas stories for 2011 will be in the first of the mini-series.

+blasterblaster1221 They aren't the same engine - just the same model. If you look at the faces, Lincoln has sharp edges, whereas Owen has rounded corners.
+Liam Mcilroy Hi, I replied to you on the trailer for 'The Thin Clergyman'. Please don't post your question multiple times when you don't get an answer immediately.
Why does James always ##### about pulling trucks Dosnt he know what they serve they serve the people just like coaches coal fruits vegetables steal wire etc coaches only provide easy and quick transport
I really enjoyed voicing the twins here, and loved them interacting with James. This episode was really well written and filmed, I loved it a lot!
Freight express coming though!😆
This was honestly the best episode, next to 'Percy's Post', 'Arrogance/Mistrust' and 'Swan Song'. Tbh, the rail motors with buffer beams kinda shakes me up but as long as they're happy.

TheBlueE2 did a good job voicing Bertie, as well as Sir Handel in your other stories.

Is there a sequel to this? I really want to see a story of them delivering passengers and cars!!
I thought Gordon still pulled the Express and Pip and Emma pulled the Wild Nor Wester.
+Green Arrow Pictures Productions The Wild'Nor'Wester is the name of the express.
Oh, but still doesn't Gordon take part of that train?
+Green Arrow Pictures Productions No, just commuter trains.
+WildNorWester thank you.
Argh, this somehow skipped my inbox >_>
well, better late than never.
9:44 Did I Just see Rheneas?
yeesh! how Owen and Edwin were awake until a few minutes after Henry passed with “the flying kipper" I have no idea!
I wonder if part 2 will be pushed to January, I do understand that something like this takes time and hard work
WNW that diesel from the last episode is he going to be released sometime soon
+LBSCS Productions Which diesel?
+WildNorWester the one that has Winston's face pack and Mavis with put the cowcatchers and sideplates and he is green
+LBSCS Productions Caden? He'll be released after his first speaking role.
+WildNorWester OK a nice video all the same it reminds me of the first episodes of Thomas when he wants to "see the world"
+LBSCS Productions Caden is a class 02 diesel, which is much smaller than a class 04, which is what Mavis is based.
I'm predicting the next thing we'll get is a trailer for part 2
+Mikester_Paltoes Nope, it'll be the trailer for 'The Thin Clergyman'.

Regardless, my main reason for commenting here was that I have a few questions -
1. What are Evan and Edwin's UIC wheel arrangements? (co-co, co-bo, bo-bo, A1A-A1A etc. etc.)
2. What is the station depicted at ~1:50?
+Sudrian Patriot Hi,
Evan & Edwin are Class 142 railmotors, with an A-A wheel arrangement. As for the station at 1:50, that's Ballahoo.
***** Ah. Thank you for the info. :D
Good episode. Is the background music @ 9:25 from a Don Bluth cartoon film? I'm sure I've heard it somewhere before...
+Charles Bowditch It's royalty-free music from a composer named Kevin MacLeod. His music is used in a lot of things.

What do Edwin and Evan's horns sound like?
Great episode, but one thing, What's wrong with fitting the twins with semi-automatic couplers? like the Class 67 and class 91.
A very nice video

Retired from the express?
in the episode "Swan song" Gordon retires from the express the wildnorwestern due to not being able to meet the new time tables.
Why do you have 4 births on the Norramby Branch when there's only 3 Engines on the line?
Having had experience in the UK rail industry now, it strikes me that we've never seen Evan and Edwin coupled together, so their unique couplings were pretty much useless. If anything, I'm surprised it took Owen's idea for them to get standard couplers. But a good story nonetheless.
Wait a minute! If Evan and Edwin's motors cannot handle regular goods trains, then how are they able to carry one to two motor-rail / vehicle carrier wagons?!🤤
Because a regular goods train is bigger than a single motorail wagon. Just like how Daisy is able to take a single dairy van.
I meant, motor rail wagons that are FULLY LOADED WITH 3 CARS PER WAGON!
Think how heavy?!
@@BrentSudric I think I included a line about their engines also being upgraded, along with their couplers. That would give them the needed power.
