Power metal is typically defined by the high speed and technicality of the instrumentation, with thunderous drums, long and highly technical guitar solos, and soaring vocals. Lyrically, Power Metal songs are invariably inspirational, invigorating, and emotionally charged, with strong fantasy themes. Because of this, there is a significant fanbase crossover between Power Metal and lovers of video games and fantasy TV and movies.
Dragonforce is an excellent example of the genre. You mentioned Sabaton, another great one. Other bands worthy of your time include Unleash the Archers and Symphony X.

The "Ow, my hand hurts" thing that Herman Li does is actually him using the Hot Hand 3 wireless effects controller. That's the chunky thing on his finger. Basically it's like an expression pedal, but fits to the hand or guitar (or whatever) and uses accelerometers to vary the effect. He uses it for filters and modulation etc.
you can really tell who the guitar players are when you watch reactions to this song.. all guitarists recognise the ring immediatly
Can confirm they use a theramin! I saw them play in Sydney, Australia years ago. At one point, to showcase the talent of everyone, the singer and guitarists walked off stage. The keyboard player and drummer then had massive jam session. It was wild, and the theramin played a big part in that.

Considering you are falling down the Babymetal foxhole, you might be interested to know that Dragonforce's guitarists, Hermal Li and Sam Totman wrote and recorded the guitar parts for Babymetal's track Road of Resistance, which they regularly close shows with. Babymetal have appeared on stage alongside Dragonforce a few times when they were starting to become known internationally.

@@MarikoHulme I can think of 2 occasions. Dragonforce had Babymetal as guests during their set at Download one year where they played Gimme Chocolate, and there was an awards ceremony (I want to say Kerrang! or Metal Hammer awards, I'm not sure) where they played Road of Resistance.

Sam is just as good, they complement each other and take turns in the songs which is a bit different from other bands too. You could say that DragonForce have 2 lead guitarists.

In fact, the version of the song used in the video ia edited. Heroes of our Time is actually over 6 minute long. I'd strongly recommend you guys to listen the original full version, so you can fully have the experience It brings.

Never heard of them before now and always looking for new music, I'm gonna check them out. If you like unusual music, have you heard Stomu Yamashta? His album The Man From The East is incredible, similar to Pink Floyd but with a Japanese flavour.

The ring herman was wearing was actually a motion sensor activating the wah effect for his guitar, hence him shaking it like crazy.

The 'Ouch my hands hurt' is called Hot Hands its the ring.
Dragon Force are from England and they are even better live. I seen them twice and they absolutely kick your ass with a sonic overload of speed,energy and power. Also the ring the guitarist uses (Herman Lee in the white shirt) is called a Hot Hand motion expression controller which translates hand movements into sounds and is combined with an effects pedal. Sam the other guitarist is just as good as Herman and the whole band is a tight team.

It's cool that you guys did the video, because you get to see them do their thing, but it's a slightly short edit. Believe it or not, the album version has more even guitar solo in it than this.
