The Joker mistreat Harley every time she behaves like a dog begging for love which is almost always , but every time she makes a stand and fights him back, that's the only time he values her.

To be fair people who think of their relationship as goals only base off their opinion from the movie. Not everyone has read the comic books or watched the cartoon and their relationship in the movie does have its good moments... if you ignore the fact that he tortured her into insanity with electrical shocks :p

Did he save her from being taken to jail and being abused/treated wrongly for who knows how long? No, He came to pick her up when they were on the roof and he could've "rescued" her literally anytime afterwards since he was still alive, but did he? No. Not until she was back in jail at the end of the movie. And if a serial killer had a heart why would they kill? The Joker has no humanity, he has no remorse for others only himself and the Batman. Harley was the Jokers escape from Arkham Asylum and that was it, then he turned her into his disposable minion that comes running back to him with a few sweet words. She wasn't apart of his plan, and he said that.

The problem isn't just that Joker is shat bit nor that Harley is unstable. Harley was manipulated and abused all of her life, on many levels, as well as taught by her "peers" that you are either the manipulator or the manipulated. It doesn't excuse what she or he did or will do, rather it is the simple fact that when you never are show how a healthy relationship works you never want one.
I know this sounds fucked up, but I like the relationship with Harley and Joker in this cartoon rather than in Suicide Squad. It makes more sense, and plus, the Clown Prince of Crime loves NOWONE!

If he seems softer in Suicide Squad it's only because he's not the focus, she is. So it's more from her point of of view. Also helps people new to the character better understand why she puts up with him. If there's a sequel, I'd expect more abuse.
I know this is old but I doubt they would show more abuse. Joker now is ruined like they did with twilight and vampires. Instead of keeping Joker his natural psychopathic style and dirty grimy look, they gave him a hot guy look. So he’s gonna be a baby face
I use to have a relationship similar to theirs, but I didn’t do it on purpose. I did everything to make him happy and at first he loved me then after two years a different side of him showed and our relationship began to spiral into this on and off kind of thing. When he was mad (which was often) he would threaten me, one time he said he would break every bone in my body. He even cheated on me often and insulted me multiple times. But I was stupid and naive like Harley, everytime he apologized, I went back to him, never defending myself and never blaming him. He said many times he wanted to marry me and have kids with me, and I believed all of it. Finally after he left me on our 5th year anniversary I stood up for myself and told him I didn’t need him and that I can make it on my own without him. It was so hard but I’m so glad to be out of such a horrible relationship and a horrible experience. This is not what love should look like and poor Harley must have been put through hell, I know I was.
THIS IS GOING TO BE LONG, SO SORRY!: Harley tortured and killed people just for fun, she is as bad as the Joker, wake up and stop thinking she's an angel that needs protection. I understand that just because she's a villain that it doesn't justify the fact that she's in an abusive relationship; however, it's funny how people think that the Joker in the animated series was the only one doing the abuse. In episode "Joker's Millions" in the end Harley beats the hell out of Joker, she is not a victim. They are both very abusive, and toxic for each other. They are both so twisted and sick. And no, Harley is not under Joker's influence when she does very bad things, she always had villainous characteristics before she even met the Joker. In her original origin, she wanted to work at Arkham Asylum not because she wanted to help her patients but because she was attracted to Gotham’s criminal underworld and described it as “glamorous”, and spent months trying to set up therapy sessions with Joker with the full intention of exploiting her patient by using his “secrets” as material for a tell-all book. Her idea of a “game night” is gleefully watching Joker shoot security guards as she cheers him on enthusiastically. She's a woman who may care for a small circle of friends but otherwise considers harming innocent people to be “just a joke”...she is a full blown sociopath. Some more info about the animated series, if interested: It seems like the Joker doesn't care for her in the animated series but that doesn't mean he never cared about her in the animated series. Based on my analysis of BTAS, I think he does care for her. When she "treated" him in Arkham Asylum, he made up stories so that he could gain her sympathy, because he knew that once he had her wrapped around his finger, she would give him what he wanted: escape. He got that and then never looked back. She came after him, and after that it’s been a string of emotional, physical, and psychological abuse. However, I also think he “low key cares about her”. As much as the Joker can care about someone, anyway. It’s known that the Joker finds the lives of almost everyone extremely expendable. There are a few people he doesn’t kill right away because he wants to play with them first and draw out their suffering, but those are the people that give him an occupation. When it comes to people that work for him, he usually doesn’t keep anyone around for too long. Henchmen are a dime a dozen, and he never seems to like the criminals he teams up with. What I find fascinating is Harley being an exception to this. He doesn’t mind having her around compared to everyone else, and he’s kind of a certified loner. He doesn’t have the temper to deal with having an equal. He certainly doesn’t treat Harley like one, either, but she’s still an important assistant in many of his plans. Despite finding her annoying and never really needing her, he lets her follow him and work for him. I think that’s a pretty big deal, given his usual attitude towards nuisances. She’s a constant in his world of chaos. The only other person that we can say that about is Batman. I think that, in his own twisted, selfish, exploitative way, he feels something for her. The closest thing the Joker can feel to love, a twinge of something that he really doesn’t show for anyone else, which I find most fascinating of all. And when she’s not with him? He’s kind of a mess in the animated series..to the point where he can’t find his own socks (Ep. Harley and Ivy), tries to find a fake Harley when she left him (Joker's Millions) and when he gets irritated at fake Harley he almost shoots her and says quote on quote,"Who'd ever think I'd miss the real one?" just shows he has some feelings towards Harley. It is a very twisted love story. Let's also not forget the comics, eh? I have been reading DC for a long time now, and what I can say about Joker and Harley's relationship based on the comics is this: I believe that the Joker in some way loves Harley in the comics as well! Yes, of course the relationship isn't functional like I stated before but what IS functional about these two characters in the animated series and in the comics? Co-creator of Harley Quinn and writer for the animated series, Paul Dini said himself "He loves her as much as he can. He loves her in his way." I don't think it's stupid to like/ship this dysfunctional couple, and honestly I love 'em together. I think the Joker is a far stronger and more fascinating character if he does deep down love Harley. Did it start out that way? No. But as Mark Hamill, THE Joker of Dc animation, once said "Expressing emotion in any way that's real and meaningful is alien to the Joker, but he's learning those parts of himself, however unconsciously, through Harley. On a physical level they're dynamite together. A lot of relationships are defined by that. Two people may be really horrible for each other, but physically they push each other's buttons so clearly they can't get enough of that person." Arleen Sorkin, original voice actress who voiced Harley, once said that "Everyone else sees the Joker laugh, only Harley has ever seen him cry. It's the only reason she stays with him." I'm a HUGE joker fan and I must say that I find the character to usually be written 2d. An irredeemable psychopath who was a child hood sociopath, asexual with an obsession with Batman who uses people like Harley for a means to an end. This is an important interpretation of the Joker which has been mastered through Serious House on Serious Earth, death of the family, Jack Nicholson's Joker, Ledger's Joker, etc. However, the problem is this interpretation of the Joker gets old and is very limiting and doesn't allow for as much depth. I think the best type of interpretation for the Joker is one that despite having mental illnesses, deep down he knows the difference between right and wrong and is very capable of love, but has alienated these feelings due to his tragic past. People say that's not a good take on the Joker, that he should have no concept of right or wrong and he's completely irredeemable. A great and important interpretation to explore but one that eventually becomes limited and repetitive. Some fans say making the Joker capable of love and understanding right and wrong makes him less evil, but I think it makes him even worse. He knows the difference and yet he's still doing it. It makes him even more irredeemable. I think the Joker should be capable of love and have a tragic backstory but he is no longer redeemable and that's what makes him in spirit a prime example of the tragic clown. He is no longer fixable. This is acknowledged in both The Killing Joke, where he is shown to have a very tragic backstory, and when he himself admits you can't fix him when Batman offers to help him, indicating he knows that he's a terrible person. And of course the Bermejo/Azzarello Joker graphic novel which states he's a disease with no cure. The fans always cite the Azzarello/Bermejo Joker graphic novel, & The Killing Joke as among the best interpretations of the character, and it is implied that he had a tragic back story or he is capable of human emotion; yet despite this, it seems some of the fans always want him to be someone who was a psychopath since day one. So back to Harley and the Joker; when Joker first meets Harley... of course he doesn't care about her. He couldn't care less. But Harley reawakens his human side much to his contempt and he hates it but can't help it. He resents the fact he does deep down know he's a horrible person and yet is capable of love and sympathy. He admits this in the Bermejo/Azzarello graphic novel when he tells Johnny Frost how he hates apologies and envied a serial killer who showed no remorse for his actions as deep down,, the Joker does to an extent. In No Man's Land he tries to kill Harley because she made him fall in love with her. In the Azzarello/Bermejo graphic novel, he is shown on his knees clutching Harley as he cries, making her very much the stable one of the relationship and in the graphic novel, and at the time in B-Man's career that it takes place in, Harley has very much become his equal or so it seems. The novel is written and drawn in a way that the scene he holds and cries to Harley is very much supposed to be genuine. It's also a cool coincidence that his wife Jeannie in the Killing Joke looks kind of like Harley. Maybe Harley reminds him of Jeannie, something that would really enrage him. Also if the Batman was to find out Joker loves Harley, it would give him a reason not to kill Joker. It would give B-Man the vain hope that if this man is capable of love, then there is hope for him and every other criminal out there, despite the Joker telling him otherwise. Ironically, the Joker truly having feelings for Harley makes him more evil (and Harley too, since she loves him back) as he (BOTH!) knows and understands the difference between right and wrong and just doesn't care, as opposed to a sociopath incapable of human emotion. The Joker being at his core human makes him a far more fascinating and terrifying villain as he was not born bad but made that way..to which he became unfixable, which means all it will take is one bad day to make any of us become just like him! So longer than short, as Joker's and Harley's relationship develops, it should start out with Joker using her as a means to an end to her becoming his kryptonite as the years pass by. I highly recommend anyone who hasn't read The Killing Joke and Brian Azzarello and Lee Bermejo's Joker graphic novel that they do. It's, in my opinion, the best take on the character. Like, I have /so/ many girls on my social media wanting a relationship like Harley and the Joker's and I just- Well, I had to make one of these. Now I have two sides to this: First being what someone else said here earlier, Joker is so insane, he can't execute his emotions very well, and he tries to hide his emotions. Which ends in abuse. Plus Harley does hit back sometimes. But I also do agree that this is a toxic relationship no matter what, and I am grateful that you made this because so many girls fantasize about this, and they think a relationship like this is okay.

The times when the bad guy takes his angry on a flunkies it's usually either comical or at time karmatic . In the case of the Joker's treatment of Harley, it is disturbing and tearjerking as it resembles real abuse, like when a wife gets abused by her alcoholic husband. It would even be worse if they had a kid as he/she would be forced to witness this and normally they are traumatized by those moments.
Harley Quinn you obviously have a problem if you think that this is okay. He isn’t even being a dick because majority of people did think it was okay because of that movie. She was far kinder than the joker. In other series she as said several times she should leave the joker. :P And actually in series where they are (or could be) shipped together Ivy was a far kinder lover.
To all of the people bitching about Harley Quinn being abused and how awful it is, OF COURSE SHE IS ABUSED. That's the point. The joker is a nut job with no understanding of what standard love is. Harley Quinn is most likely a sadomasochist with exceptionally low self esteem. Their relationship is MEANT to be fucked up. Both Joker and Quinn know exactly who they are and who they are (for lack of a better word) dating. They both know how to manipulate each other. They tear and beat and break each other in all the right places. This brings them as close to happiness as they can get. In their own twisted sense they do "love" each other. Is it right? Hell no. Is it healthy? Fuuuuck no. But that's what makes their relationship so great from a character writing perspective. They're two deceivingly complex characters with a deliciously difficult relationship. This clip also fails to show all the times Harley and kicked the shit out of Mister J. She's no damaged butterfly Not all characters are meant to be heros or anti heros. Some are sick, twisted, and beyond comprehension to us "Normie's". That merely shows how excellently they have been written. It sort of seems that more and more villains are being turned into anti heros so we don't have to feel bad about liking the monsters. but if you can't handle these kinds of characters go watch some fucking Blue's Clues or something.
Joker does love Harley in a sick twisted way, in practically all his versions. It is stated by the creators, but the Joker, as he is crazy, cannot express those emotions like a normal, sane person, would. So he tries to supress those emotions and sometimes even try to kill Harley. Harley too isn't always the victim of abuse though. She fights back several times, like when she almost shot him in the video. Also, she enjoys the abuse, as one time that the joker was sane, he actually was good with her, giving her presents and everything, only for her to slap him and telling him that he was a wimp. So basically they are both crazy and form an unusual couple. While the Suicide Squad portrayed them both far more gentle towards each other (and I liked that) the truth for all versions of them is that they really cannot be apart from each other from long, as they BOTH need each other.

What's wrong in being in love with characters that kill, abuse or torture??? There’s nothing wrong with LIKING characters who are evil. But a lot of people for some reason see this as a healthy relationship and try to model their own relationships after Joker and Harley. I just want to point out that harley literally (in sane consciousness and of her own free will) CHOSE to be with and pursue the joker KNOWING what he was going to be like and then chose to stay with him afterwards...i'm not saying their relationship is the world's definition of a healthy relationship but the blame isn't all on the joker here...that was what was originally exciting about harley...she was completely sane and made the decision for herself to walk down the twisted path because it intrigued her...being with him as abusive as he is, made her happy...and being without him or his abuse made her sadder than she had ever been...once again, i'm not saying their relationship is a healthy one...but they also aren't healthy folks

The thing I appreciate about dc shows back in the 90’s or early 2000’s that showed the Joker/Harley relationship was that they never censored any violence the joker directed towards Harley, they showed full force that this relationship is NOT! Actually, Joker doesn't love Harley. He needs her to assist him in his crime. Harley is his ace, she's his greatest weapon. What's really happening is manipulation. Making Harley think that he's just rough and he does like her when actually don't. To back that up, Harley is now Poison Ivy's girlfriend and Joker literally tried to kill her because she got rid of him and moved out of his abusive game. Harley and Joker does not complete each other. Maybe for Harley on her early criminal days, but never Joker. Batman completes Joker, not Harley. Comic-wise, without Batman, there is no Joker. He only cares about Batman, thinking that they're the only two that exists and matters. This is why he's obsessed with Batman. Why would Joker try to kill Harley if he truly needs her? There's no answer for that. Meanwhile, Joker broke the bat ( Emotionally ) way a lot more times because he needs him to focus only to him. Why would Joker try to kill the bat? If he kills Batman, that'll mean he did his job very well and he could finally get rid of the entire Joker thing completely if he chooses to.

Harley loves him. He does not love her even a little bit. His intention was initially corrupt her to escape Arkham and she's pretty much cannon fodder beyond that. And kindness he shows her is manipulation to keep her at his finger tips, so she'll remain disposable for him.
I know their relationship is bad but that's why I love them! Their relationships like no other characters in any show or comic. But Suicide Squad ruined it making Joker go from dumping her to get caught by Batman, to running the few scenes he had in the show trying to rescue her that's nothing like them or even sensible, he dumps her in the like get away let them catch you not me, to the next second "oh I have to risk hell itself to find her" keep some kind of theme. The problem isn't just that Joker is shat bit nor that Harley is unstable. Harley was manipulated and abused all of her life, on many levels, as well as taught by her "peers" that you are either the manipulator or the manipulated. It doesn't excuse what she or he did or will do, rather it is the simple fact that when you never are show how a healthy relationship works you never want one.
I know this sounds fucked up, but I like the relationship with Harley and Joker in this cartoon rather than in Suicide Squad. It makes more sense, and plus, the Clown Prince of Crime loves NOWONE!

If he seems softer in Suicide Squad it's only because he's not the focus, she is. So it's more from her point of of view. Also helps people new to the character better understand why she puts up with him. If there's a sequel, I'd expect more abuse.

I use to have a relationship similar to theirs, but I didn’t do it on purpose. I did everything to make him happy and at first he loved me then after two years a different side of him showed and our relationship began to spiral into this on and off kind of thing. When he was mad (which was often) he would threaten me, one time he said he would break every bone in my body. He even cheated on me often and insulted me multiple times. But I was stupid and naive like Harley, everytime he apologized, I went back to him, never defending myself and never blaming him. He said many times he wanted to marry me and have kids with me, and I believed all of it. Finally after he left me on our 5th year anniversary I stood up for myself and told him I didn’t need him and that I can make it on my own without him. It was so hard but I’m so glad to be out of such a horrible relationship and a horrible experience. This is not what love should look like and poor Harley must have been put through hell, I know I was.

THIS IS GOING TO BE LONG, SO SORRY!: Harley tortured and killed people just for fun, she is as bad as the Joker, wake up and stop thinking she's an angel that needs protection. I understand that just because she's a villain that it doesn't justify the fact that she's in an abusive relationship; however, it's funny how people think that the Joker in the animated series was the only one doing the abuse. In episode "Joker's Millions" in the end Harley beats the hell out of Joker, she is not a victim. They are both very abusive, and toxic for each other. They are both so twisted and sick. And no, Harley is not under Joker's influence when she does very bad things, she always had villainous characteristics before she even met the Joker. In her original origin, she wanted to work at Arkham Asylum not because she wanted to help her patients but because she was attracted to Gotham’s criminal underworld and described it as “glamorous”, and spent months trying to set up therapy sessions with Joker with the full intention of exploiting her patient by using his “secrets” as material for a tell-all book. Her idea of a “game night” is gleefully watching Joker shoot security guards as she cheers him on enthusiastically. She's a woman who may care for a small circle of friends but otherwise considers harming innocent people to be “just a joke”...she is a full blown sociopath.
Some more info about the animated series, if interested: It seems like the Joker doesn't care for her in the animated series but that doesn't mean he never cared about her in the animated series. Based on my analysis of BTAS, I think he does care for her. When she "treated" him in Arkham Asylum, he made up stories so that he could gain her sympathy, because he knew that once he had her wrapped around his finger, she would give him what he wanted: escape. He got that and then never looked back. She came after him, and after that it’s been a string of emotional, physical, and psychological abuse. However, I also think he “low key cares about her”. As much as the Joker can care about someone, anyway. It’s known that the Joker finds the lives of almost everyone extremely expendable. There are a few people he doesn’t kill right away because he wants to play with them first and draw out their suffering, but those are the people that give him an occupation. When it comes to people that work for him, he usually doesn’t keep anyone around for too long. Henchmen are a dime a dozen, and he never seems to like the criminals he teams up with. What I find fascinating is Harley being an exception to this. He doesn’t mind having her around compared to everyone else, and he’s kind of a certified loner. He doesn’t have the temper to deal with having an equal. He certainly doesn’t treat Harley like one, either, but she’s still an important assistant in many of his plans. Despite finding her annoying and never really needing her, he lets her follow him and work for him. I think that’s a pretty big deal, given his usual attitude towards nuisances. She’s a constant in his world of chaos. The only other person that we can say that about is Batman. I think that, in his own twisted, selfish, exploitative way, he feels something for her. The closest thing the Joker can feel to love, a twinge of something that he really doesn’t show for anyone else, which I find most fascinating of all. And when she’s not with him? He’s kind of a mess in the animated series..to the point where he can’t find his own socks (Ep. Harley and Ivy), tries to find a fake Harley when she left him (Joker's Millions) and when he gets irritated at fake Harley he almost shoots her and says quote on quote,"Who'd ever think I'd miss the real one?" just shows he has some feelings towards Harley. It is a very twisted love story. Let's also not forget the comics, eh? I have been reading DC for a long time now, and what I can say about Joker and Harley's relationship based on the comics is this: I believe that the Joker in some way loves Harley in the comics as well! Yes, of course the relationship isn't functional like I stated before but what IS functional about these two characters in the animated series and in the comics? Co-creator of Harley Quinn and writer for the animated series, Paul Dini said himself "He loves her as much as he can. He loves her in his way." I don't think it's stupid to like/ship this dysfunctional couple, and honestly I love 'em together. I think the Joker is a far stronger and more fascinating character if he does deep down love Harley. Did it start out that way? No. But as Mark Hamill, THE Joker of Dc animation, once said "Expressing emotion in any way that's real and meaningful is alien to the Joker, but he's learning those parts of himself, however unconsciously, through Harley. On a physical level they're dynamite together. A lot of relationships are defined by that. Two people may be really horrible for each other, but physically they push each other's buttons so clearly they can't get enough of that person." Arleen Sorkin, original voice actress who voiced Harley, once said that "Everyone else sees the Joker laugh, only Harley has ever seen him cry. It's the only reason she stays with him." I'm a HUGE joker fan and I must say that I find the character to usually be written 2d. An irredeemable psychopath who was a child hood sociopath, asexual with an obsession with Batman who uses people like Harley for a means to an end. This is an important interpretation of the Joker which has been mastered through Serious House on Serious Earth, death of the family, Jack Nicholson's Joker, Ledger's Joker, etc. However, the problem is this interpretation of the Joker gets old and is very limiting and doesn't allow for as much depth. I think the best type of interpretation for the Joker is one that despite having mental illnesses, deep down he knows the difference between right and wrong and is very capable of love, but has alienated these feelings due to his tragic past. People say that's not a good take on the Joker, that he should have no concept of right or wrong and he's completely irredeemable. A great and important interpretation to explore but one that eventually becomes limited and repetitive. Some fans say making the Joker capable of love and understanding right and wrong makes him less evil, but I think it makes him even worse. He knows the difference and yet he's still doing it. It makes him even more irredeemable. I think the Joker should be capable of love and have a tragic backstory but he is no longer redeemable and that's what makes him in spirit a prime example of the tragic clown. He is no longer fixable. This is acknowledged in both The Killing Joke, where he is shown to have a very tragic backstory, and when he himself admits you can't fix him when Batman offers to help him, indicating he knows that he's a terrible person. And of course the Bermejo/Azzarello Joker graphic novel which states he's a disease with no cure. The fans always cite the Azzarello/Bermejo Joker graphic novel, & The Killing Joke as among the best interpretations of the character, and it is implied that he had a tragic back story or he is capable of human emotion; yet despite this, it seems some of the fans always want him to be someone who was a psychopath since day one. So back to Harley and the Joker; when Joker first meets Harley... of course he doesn't care about her. He couldn't care less. But Harley reawakens his human side much to his contempt and he hates it but can't help it. He resents the fact he does deep down know he's a horrible person and yet is capable of love and sympathy. He admits this in the Bermejo/Azzarello graphic novel when he tells Johnny Frost how he hates apologies and envied a serial killer who showed no remorse for his actions as deep down,, the Joker does to an extent. In No Man's Land he tries to kill Harley because she made him fall in love with her. In the Azzarello/Bermejo graphic novel, he is shown on his knees clutching Harley as he cries, making her very much the stable one of the relationship and in the graphic novel, and at the time in B-Man's career that it takes place in, Harley has very much become his equal or so it seems. The novel is written and drawn in a way that the scene he holds and cries to Harley is very much supposed to be genuine. It's also a cool coincidence that his wife Jeannie in the Killing Joke looks kind of like Harley. Maybe Harley reminds him of Jeannie, something that would really enrage him. Also if the Batman was to find out Joker loves Harley, it would give him a reason not to kill Joker. It would give B-Man the vain hope that if this man is capable of love, then there is hope for him and every other criminal out there, despite the Joker telling him otherwise. Ironically, the Joker truly having feelings for Harley makes him more evil (and Harley too, since she loves him back) as he (BOTH!) knows and understands the difference between right and wrong and just doesn't care, as opposed to a sociopath incapable of human emotion. The Joker being at his core human makes him a far more fascinating and terrifying villain as he was not born bad but made that way..to which he became unfixable, which means all it will take is one bad day to make any of us become just like him!
So longer than short, as Joker's and Harley's relationship develops, it should start out with Joker using her as a means to an end to her becoming his kryptonite as the years pass by. I highly recommend anyone who hasn't read The Killing Joke and Brian Azzarello and Lee Bermejo's Joker graphic novel that they do. It's, in my opinion, the best take on the character.

Now I have two sides to this:
First being what someone else said here earlier, Joker is so insane, he can't execute his emotions very well, and he tries to hide his emotions. Which ends in abuse. Plus Harley does hit back sometimes.

To all of the people bitching about Harley Quinn being abused and how awful it is, OF COURSE SHE IS ABUSED. That's the point. The joker is a nut job with no understanding of what standard love is. Harley Quinn is most likely a sadomasochist with exceptionally low self esteem. Their relationship is MEANT to be fucked up. Both Joker and Quinn know exactly who they are and who they are (for lack of a better word) dating. They both know how to manipulate each other. They tear and beat and break each other in all the right places. This brings them as close to happiness as they can get. In their own twisted sense they do "love" each other. Is it right? Hell no. Is it healthy? Fuuuuck no. But that's what makes their relationship so great from a character writing perspective. They're two deceivingly complex characters with a deliciously difficult relationship. This clip also fails to show all the times Harley and kicked the shit out of Mister J. She's no damaged butterfly Not all characters are meant to be heros or anti heros. Some are sick, twisted, and beyond comprehension to us "Normie's". That merely shows how excellently they have been written. It sort of seems that more and more villains are being turned into anti heros so we don't have to feel bad about liking the monsters. but if you can't handle these kinds of characters go watch some fucking Blue's Clues or something.

Joker does love Harley in a sick twisted way, in practically all his versions. It is stated by the creators, but the Joker, as he is crazy, cannot express those emotions like a normal, sane person, would. So he tries to supress those emotions and sometimes even try to kill Harley. Harley too isn't always the victim of abuse though. She fights back several times, like when she almost shot him in the video. Also, she enjoys the abuse, as one time that the joker was sane, he actually was good with her, giving her presents and everything, only for her to slap him and telling him that he was a wimp. So basically they are both crazy and form an unusual couple. While the Suicide Squad portrayed them both far more gentle towards each other (and I liked that) the truth for all versions of them is that they really cannot be apart from each other from long, as they BOTH need each other.

The thing I appreciate about dc shows back in the 90’s or early 2000’s that showed the Joker/Harley relationship was that they never censored any violence the joker directed towards Harley, they showed full force that this relationship is NOT! Couples goals, toy might not have realized how violent it was but it was abusive enough for you to understand that it was bad and definitely not a way you want to be treated

Actually, Joker doesn't love Harley. He needs her to assist him in his crime. Harley is his ace, she's his greatest weapon. What's really happening is manipulation. Making Harley think that he's just rough and he does like her when actually don't. To back that up, Harley is now Poison Ivy's girlfriend and Joker literally tried to kill her because she got rid of him and moved out of his abusive game. Harley and Joker does not complete each other. Maybe for Harley on her early criminal days, but never Joker. Batman completes Joker, not Harley. Comic-wise, without Batman, there is no Joker. He only cares about Batman, thinking that they're the only two that exists and matters. This is why he's obsessed with Batman. Why would Joker try to kill Harley if he truly needs her? There's no answer for that. Meanwhile, Joker broke the bat ( Emotionally ) way a lot more times because he needs him to focus only to him. Why would Joker try to kill the bat? If he kills Batman, that'll mean he did his job very well and he could finally get rid of the entire Joker thing completely if he chooses to.
