Been trying to throw a hook for years. I could always hook it, just not very well. This video finally gave me a break through. Ball is hooking down lane like never before with minimal effort. Thank you!
Hooked a ball for the first time in my life after watching this. Even threw a few strikes. Issue now is sometimes I hook too much and get a Brooklyn ball, sometimes not enough. But at least it’s hooking!
I been watching all kinds of videos on how to hook a bowling ball. Nothing worked so far. Your way looks easy. I'll give it try. Promise to get back with you. Frustrated James.
I feel you here...nothing makes sense to me as many years as I've bowled and average 190s. This yo yo thing, ball rotation, and wrist position is so confusing. I come around the side of the ball but I always top spin. Tried manipulating my tilt and I just end up back to what works for me. Top spinning.
I like the frisbee analogy as it makes the most sense to me, but do you do it when your hand is behind the ball or cock the wrist as if you were getting ready to throw a frisbee?
I threw a curve like the first one and it sometimes hit a strike but not all the time and went to side lanes too. I will definitely try it your way to see how I did. This really helps.
Other pros didn tell about pointing or aiming with index finger.. Thanks. Will try soon. I wonder should i use lighter balls to do the hook? My weight is 125 lb, normally i use 11lb ball.
I have a question, if i want to keep my hand behind the ball in order to give effect, I need to be with the forearm in tension right? I can't put the hand behind the ball, maybe i have week forearms or... I am doing the technic to put the hand behind the ball badly and you don't need to be in tension at all? I want to know, i've been trying to give effect to the ball for a long time but i can't put the hand behind the ball... Do you need to be using the forearm to put the hand in the right possition, like doing force? Im using house balls
So when you say point with your index finger for where you want it to go, do you mean point at your mark downlane or where you want the ball to end up after it has hooked?
You are very right in a sense, but you don't really want your arm coming across your chest on the release. This causes the ball to move left earlier than you would want to see. By bringing your hand up and out away from the body, sort of like you're answering a phone, it will carry outward farther and add more hook on the back end depending on the ball and drilling layout.
when i first started, usually the handshaking thing only worked for me when i didn't use my thumb, but now with my thumb it's more of a scoopy/flick motion with my fingers if that makes sense, but the handshake thing did work for me, my friend, and my brother, it's not gonna get you far but for just starting it's not a bad way to think
The flcik motion with the fingers is exactly what the throwing of the frisbee simulates. If you threw a frisbee underhanded and attempted to make it go forward.
I tried this last night at league. First game was insane for me (211) then dropped to 111 and 109 after my fingers started hurting. I'm still doing something wrong, or I need to get used to my fingertip grip still.
This seems like decent advice but I'm not sure why I'm watching this video I already know how to throw a hook I have been in leagues and tournaments for 20 years I average 192 and almost shot my 3rd 300 game last Tuesday in league had the front 8
Your fingers are hurting because you are holding the ball cocked throughout the swing and you fingers are getting bent as they are coming out of the ball. You want to perform this maneuver only at the end of the swing just as you release. This way your fingers are already partly out of the ball before they get torqued.
I get the underhand frisbie toss analogy and will give it a try. With the pointer finger to "where you want it to go", are you pointing to the pin location, arrows, boards, dots? Thx
Sorry I really want to understand this I want to try it. I can’t figure out what you mean by throw a frisbee. I throw a frisbee away from the center of my body. Please clarify
This literally is the “shake someone’s hand” method. It’s just exaggerated. You want to do this just at the end of the swing during the release so you don’t strain or sprain your wrist holding onto the ball that way during the downswing. If you watch pros throw slow mo and you see their hand kinda whipping at the end, it’s this.
@@bluecollarbowling9694 As with others, I'm confused how you transition from pointing your finger down to the motion of throwing a frisbee. They are very different motions as far as I can tell. Maybe a slow motion of the full follow through would help. But great video in general.
I just got back from the bowling alley. I’ve been bowling for about 3 years and your tip about pointing is simply the best!

This man is on national TV kicking ass. He's Vaxxed, Waxed, and ready for Hot Boy Winter. Yet still so incredibly down to earth. Keep on rocking
Trying my best to be!

Then this clock thing with finger exiting the ball never made sense
It an acquired skill
It took me close to a month to really learn how to do it. You just got to keep at it
Nice. Never heard of it explained like this. Thank you
Glad to see another wrestler who is into bowling

Nice video!, I will try to do the frisbee throw tomorrow. It would be great if we could see a close up of your hand from the side. Cheers!
The handshake teaching tool was big in the 70s and early 80s, I remember it well, but never used it.
I didn't either really. I did use the suitcase method a bit.
Does this work with one handed no thumb bowling?

Lanes are burnt up all to piss lol. Pretty much every league night for us too. Good tips.
So when you say point with your index finger for where you want it to go, do you mean point at your mark downlane or where you want the ball to end up after it has hooked?
At your mark is a solid start. For MORE hook, a little past your mark. Less, a little before your mark.
I can hook a ball! Thanks for the description though because I was always in conflict on my actions and how others describe "How to"..
You literally shook hands!😂😂😂😂😂
No
I literally did not.....
your prob a starter bowler
@@derekford7230 You and this video maker have it all figured out! Good luck in your handicap leagues!😉

He's basically shaking hands. Frisbee???? 😆
No, I'm not basically shaking hands..
Next time am in need of a sub for Wed. night league will shout out... simple yet effective bowling tutorial!!!!
Great

Getting used to a fingertip grip will take a little time. Don't try and "hit" the ball too hard at the bottom. Just roll it.

WHY ARE THE FUK YOU ARE WATCH THIS MOTHER FRACKING SHOW GOD DMAN YOU
Damn I want to bowl with you bro!
I cant bowl for shit, I just throw the ball no thumb, one hand. But damn, I do know how to throw a frisbee. It aint like that.
You've never seen anyone throw a frisbee underhanded? Jeez.
I didn't know JD Drake is a bowler
Hi!
I get the underhand frisbie toss analogy and will give it a try. With the pointer finger to "where you want it to go", are you pointing to the pin location, arrows, boards, dots? Thx
I treat it like a clock. The more I want it to hook, the more towards "9 o'clock".
So that's what I've been forgetting to do all this time.
Sorry I really want to understand this I want to try it. I can’t figure out what you mean by throw a frisbee. I throw a frisbee away from the center of my body. Please clarify
When you don’t even know how to throw a frisbee🥲
"Throw a frisbee" - video camera points elsewhere during hand motion and doesn't capture it from start to finish

Throw a frisbee? Kind of looks like you're rolling a ball. Not sure I get the frisbee release thing.
Just tried the frisbee release and it didn't work for me ....... any advice would be appreciated anyone???
What didn't work about it? It's a feel vs real type thing honestly.
@@bluecollarbowling9694 tried to emulate the toss but no curve.
What kind of ball were you using?

Like a frisbee? Whaaaat?! A frisbee is a disc, how on earth does that look like a frisbee throw? Am I crazy?
I was thinking the same thing. That's not how I throw a frisbee
It's a feel vs real concept. Think of the way your wrist loads and unloads throwing a frisbee. Then apply it here.
