My mother’s family lived in this area for years since my grandparents were married in 1932. Grandfather and uncle worked there for many years until retirement from paper mill. Never forget that smell from the mill when passing by every time lol.😊
Beautiful downtown 🥰 Prayers for the employees of the mill🙏🏻😔 I know if our main employer closed in our town , our town would suffer. Thanks for sharing 🤗 Happy Holidays ♥️🎄🎅 God bless
Nice small town. Cute shops. I couldn't believe how expensive that one store was with their clothing. I don't see how they stay in business in a small town like that with those prices. So sad the paper mill closed. It is sad that our country is in the situation it is in, that places like the paper mill and other businesses are having to close all over our country. God help us and our country. 🙏 Thanks for sharing. Have fun, be safe, and God Bless. ❤️
First time I drove through Canton, NC was July 1983. I was fourteen and my Mother was driving myself and a Boy Scout buddy to nearby Camp Daniel Boone in Haywood county. Was going to their fifty four mile long high adventure program (backpacking, rock climbing and canoeing down the French Broad River). I had lived in NC then merely three years...a transplant from up North. I remember Canton as a typical mountain town and remember that paper mill smell. It was educational seeing that paper mill. Too bad it closed. Camp Daniel Boone is still around...Id argue Camp Daniel Boone is the single best Boy Scout camp in NC
Are you ready? Are you ready? Mike sounds like my husband Ken, always seems to be pushing to get no where on time😅. I hate the Mill closed, all politically motivated. Our Gov. Cooper should have helped them. If i had the money I’d have kept it open. Loved the video, beautiful town
Foreign competition and tariff issues, pollution, aging mills and union demands but mostly so much cannibalizing of some mills after a merger or takeover inevitably when a big paper company takes over its not long before they reduce capacity for certain grades of paper that may be in decline.Champion intl sold all their mills to International Paper in 1998 except they wouldn't take The Canton Mill bcuz of controversial pollution record.Employees ended up owning it as " Blue Ridge Paper".Then Evergreen Pkg took over and Pactiv controlled Evergreen and decided to close it.
Very sad that the town lost the Paper Mill. Beautiful town, and hope it continues to thrive.

Losing such an integral part of the community is just plain sad! Such a great looking town, too!
Oh it is such a shame the mill closed! Poor town is struggling to exist now😔. Thanks for showing us how charming it still is! ❤
A very sad situation. Reinforcement of why we've always been told "don't put all your eggs in one basket".
Thank y'all for coming to my hometown....born here and will die here.
Yes, that smell is something. It is sad it closed down. Glad to see there are shops and restaurants in the town. Thanks for the tour.

Karen, when you smelled the orange and clove at The Willow was it really good?? Im thinking of ordering the scrub. Thanks
It's sad when a community becomes reliant on a single company for it's existence. So Sad...
Southern Porch is a restaurant We ate there about 2 years ago.
So sad when employment in a small town shuts down. 😢
❤❤
I like city
💔
Live 5 minutes from Canton
I wasn't expecting $400- -$600 for a blouse..
I'll feel bad for the employees, but that plant was the source of some pretty nasty pollution into the Pigeon River.
Why are all these paper mills closing?
progressive EPA
@@chrischristides makes sense
God forbid we do anything progressive. 🙄
@@JoDeeJ0D You're one of the weak links in America.

The Democrats EPA ran them out of business...Call it for what it is.
If that is true that is awful. Driving manufacturing out of NC.
