- Who needs luck and critical hits and fancy special encounters and experience points when you have gatling lasers and tesla armor? Not only is it faster and cheesier, but it's super reliable, hardly any RNG involved, I did this like 5 times in a row and only died once because he got a critical on me, he dies in 3 turns or less every time.
"Alright, here's your mission: Get the water chip and save our vault!"

This is the only canon explanation for how the Master somehow did not find Vaults 33 and 32 despite them being IN the Boneyard and clearly visible above ground without any cover whatsoever. As soon as he started vault hunting a stupid Vault 13 dweller telepathically hunted him down and blew him up in 7 minutes.

I like that this suggests a plan years in the making, meticulous personal character development and manipulation, all of it was undone by what basically amounts to a raider blundering in stealing a pretty gun and lighting up everyone around them and not even fully grasping the extent of what they accomplished
Reminds of Two Worlds, where the main villain is a short run from your starting location. If you run over to them and aggro them, you can get them to follow you to the town and attack you, and the villagers will be able to kill him (because you're too weak, and they aren't). And then, game is done.

@@seekerhunts Yeah, his fireball has splash damage; standing next to a villager NPC turns townspeople hostile towards him, and his death triggers the ending. I believe it only works on earlier patches though.

If you think about it, you never saved the dwellers so if you come back empty handed no one has any reason to leave the vault with you

The game did not end though. The Master is considered the final boss, but it might not end there. You have to at least both kill the Master and destroy Mariposa base. It doesn’t matter which order you do them but you have to do both. Maybe the water chip too. Don’t know what happens if you do both before getting it.
So you can kill the master in 7 mins if you build your character like a literal animal. Strange

Just so people understand how perfect of a game Fallout 1 really is. You aren't a baby...you don't have be forced down a pre-determined path dictated by the writers. All the tools are available right from the start to beat the game without needing to grind 100 hours. Despite this...I have probably replayed this game more than any other because of how much fun all the different paths are & the ability to play a new character each time.

Let's not forget that Interplay also published Fallout:Tactics and Fallout:BoS (Big Ol Shit)
Fallout 2's writing is at times insanely crass and unfitting for a narrative that wants to be taken seriously.
Fallout NV is probably the closest to a perfect RPG. You can do the same thing essentially "Kill House" by just going left at Goodsprings and hauling ass to Freeside.
Interplay and Black Isle were simply not the people to keep this franchise alive. But to call Fallout 3, 4 and 76 RPGs is almost sad. They're simulations, 1,2,NV are narratives and yet to say a 1990s Interplay made THE all timer in terms of post apocalyptic role playing fills me with a dread that reminds me most games today are literally just wasting my time and money. Fallout 1s no spectacle, but anyone who says "Moby Dick is bad because it's old" hasn't played Fallout 1, and probably never will.
Wow! That is incredible! I first played this game back in October of 1997, and I never knew that this was even a possibility. Kudos!

It's the fact you can even attempt stuff like this, let alone pull it off that I think this game deserves a remake.
Yes that otherworldly aesthetic and feel would be completely obliterated and the game wouldn't be nowhere close to the same overall, but imagine if they managed to keep the brutality and role playing elements while allowing you to play the game out of order with everyone reacting accordingly.
The replay value is already top notch with this one, it'd be even better with a remake
Out of pure spite, the vault dweller doesn't retrieve the water chip and instead saves the entire wasteland in the span of 17 days.
The game was so upset with you skipping to the end like that that the sound started cutting in and out in protest.

Actually, this was super easy, it didn't take much luck or skill at all since everything you need to completely cheese the master is right there in the cathedral. I'm thinking of doing something more challenging, maybe trying to kill the master and then blow up the vats and finish the game in under 10 minutes or something, I guess you could call it a speedrun of sorts. Also I could try making the worst build possible to do a run like this instead of min-maxing. The ultimate challenge though is to finish the game and kill the bosses using only a BB gun, it does so little damage that the only thing that makes it viable to use is the instant death chance from better criticals, and that won't work on the master. Only about 5 points of damage get through on the highest critical roll, so I will literally need to shoot the master over 100 times in the eyes to kill him with perfect luck, it's probably not worth it, and using the LE BB gun is kinda cheating. I could also try an unarmed build with bare fists only, that would actually be more effective than using a BB gun.

This is one of the greatest things I've seen in all of Fallout franchise... by the way you can scroll down on your inventory with the direction keys in your keyboard :D you probably already know that.
So, an IN 1 character gets a quest to save her vault, goes outside, nature/aliens/the universe tells her to go south and do especific things and then "mini gun goes BRRRRRR" and singlehandedly saves the wastes and defeats someone who clearly has +9 IN points than her... I love Fallout! haha
Overseer: “it may take you days, if not weeks to save our vault! The journey is dangerous…”

Always pains me to think about how much tech and weapons/ammo were lost because of the self-destruct. But Master had to been stopped, he might'v eventually qdmit his defeat but it was only matter of seconds to change his opinion (all it takes is just telling him that he needs new subjects and out of desperation he removes his sadness to the player, trying to killing him out of anger).
There's a theory the master isn't totally gone. His consciousness was trapped in a vault tek computer so it's totally possible he exists on the vault tec network. In the show power is restored to the West so I wonder, is the master REALLY gone for good?
@@TheGodOfGematria well in most of the interactions with him (i.e. not a 1 INT character) you can point out how dumb his plan is and he's kind of like "damn u rite" so even if he does still exist he's probably not up to much anymore
technically it took 22 in game days but still pretty impressive the vault dweller managed to save the wasteland in such short amount of time

Yes I took the skilled trait and my stats were st 60 percent and his were at 50.
The answer is that I play on normal difficulty. On hard difficulty the minus all skills by 10 percent, and on easy they plus all skills by 10.
So I play on normal which is why I got 60 percent and he starts on hard so that's why he got 50 percent
@@Mibit911 If it helps, he lowered the difficulty to Easy halfway through. Haven't played the game, tho, so not sure if that answers the question

how do you inflict above 100 damage in every shot?
Gatling Laser's burst fire deals 20 - 40 base damage per bullet.
Multiply that by 10 (burst fires 10 shots per action), factor the Master's resistances on each shot and done!

How do you skip the mutants at the doors dialogue?
I say hjg everytime and get aggrod
press the 0 key, it cancels dialogue. I think the newer steam patch, sfall or fixt or whatever it is may disable that mechanic so in that case you would use mentats to boost intelligence

And my tagged skills ended up atn60 percent starting not 50.

At the very least, you still have to destroy Mariposa military base either way. Don't know what happens if you do both that and kill the Master before finding the chip.

That setting was only used to allow lockpicking at level 1.
From the wiki: "Lower difficulty increases the amount of skill points to the player's Barter, Doctor, First Aid, Gambling, Lockpick, Repair, Science, Sneak, Speech, Steal, Traps and Outdoorsman skills, while higher difficulty decreases it."
The fight itself wouldn't be affected even if he hadn't changed it back.
I personally don't mind, the title's valid as far as I'm concerned.
