    I find that pretty much anyone with minimally textured skin can pull off a dewy look as long as it's not on the lower half and not on the nose, + the area just below the undereye is matte.
    It's also important that the dewy product is actually giving a real sheen/reflect/"oily" glow and not just like weirdly dull "shimmer" particles that sit on top. The ones with dull shimmer particles take away from the look but they were really common in late 2010s as every other makeup brand produced a dozen highlighters. IME, the ones advertised as 'gelee' or ones with a baked texture are more likely to produce an actual shine than just dull shimmer. But baked are very hit and miss too please check reviews. For recs, I really like the Nabla highlighter formula (for real shine) and the Essence Pure Nude (for subtle but fine sheen).

    "Factors that influence your ability to pull off dewy skin..."
    1. Don't have oily skin
    2. Don't live on a tropical island where humidity is off the charts and you are sweating 24/7 😂😂
    As always, such an insightful video ❤❤
    I have never had a "skin-focused" makeup look and always either play up my lips (usually love a bright lip) or eyes (loads of mascara and a dramatic cat eye when i want to go a bit bolder!) Looking at your example of Renee - i have the complete opposite features of hers! I have round, deepset, upturned eyes and lots of lid space. As for lips mine are neither small nor large but they have a nice curved shape. As a Bright Spring i think i look good in a splash of bright coloured lipstick!
    As for face, i keep it VERY minimal - just some powder to control the oil. Sometimes if it's a more glam look i add some bronzer..very little on my cheekbones. My skin is pretty good so i can get away with not using foundation.

    • @stylemejenn
      @stylemejenn  Рік тому +2

      Haha I relate to both your points even though I live in Vancouver - I sweat so much that even Vancouver summer weather makes my oily skin SO much more oilier!
      Agreed with your Bright Spring comment too - I think Renee falls into a Soft season so bright colors look off on her, but if you're a Bright then a pop of color will do you wonders!

      @@stylemejenn haha yeah, so many makeup and skincare tutorials on how to get glowy, dewy skin and me having it all naturally 😂 when i was in my early-mid 20s i actually used to cake on foundation and concealer to get that very matte look which i think was popular in the 2000s? But it just clogged my pores, broke me out and made me even oilier!
      Minimal products on the skin works best for me, and now that am 36 am actually thankful for my shiny skin 😁😁

    I would love to see you do an analysis of viewers’ faces. For example, I have been told I resemble celebrities who you have said should do opposite things .I have very hooded eyes and full lips like Renee Zellweger. Here you’ve said she shouldn’t wear a lot of eye makeup and should do skin focused makeup. I have also been told I have a similar look to Anya Taylor-Joy who you have said gets lost in skin focused makeup and should really focus on her features.

    Very interesting as always! I've always been opting for matt finish, but recently (as I got more confident about my skin and also too lazy to use powder) I tried dewy look. My face doesn't have those curves like in the examples. But I think because I use no eye makeup, dewy skin kinda works, as there is no clash between visual accents. But I still wonder if I should go back to matt.

    what would you say works best for flat cheekbones and low visual features? I’m assuming matte skin, but should colors on the eyes and lips be bolder, or can natural ones work as well?

    • @stylemejenn
      @stylemejenn  Рік тому +2

      I think it really depends on the shape of your features themselves - even if they have lower visual weight, there could be certain factors that draw more emphasis to a specific area of your face! Your overall style and preference also matters when it comes to whether you should go more natural OR bolder :) But I generally recommend matching bolder styles of makeup with matte, and more natural styles with dewy, like I explained in the video! Hope that helps ❤

    Interesting. I feel like my face is complicated.. i have a bigger forehead and heart shape kindof round face especially when i smile because my cheeks spread and my laugh lines folds deeper than those women you showed. My laugh lines are almost parallel to each other and runa almost down to the sides of my smile kinda like parentheses. Or i guess some aay it is like marionette lines. It makes my cheeks look meatier when i smile. I would say when my face is in the neutral state, the weight is even weighted and not really high or low. When i smile, again, my cheeks spread and my folds are deep but the height of my cheeks are more visible. I have oily skin from forehead to chin and everything so it looks oily everywhere but when i mattify my entire face, the textures and pores seems more emphasized especially under certain lighting vs dewiness because of the illuminating kind of effect.

    Is there any connection between nose size and shape and how we do our cheeks? What about skins that have acne scars and open pores?

    • @stylemejenn
      @stylemejenn  8 місяців тому

      A dewy finish will highlight any texture in the skin more if you have large pores or textured acne scars. As for the size of the nose I think that because a dewy finish on the cheeks tends to draw some attention to the area it might highlight your nose slightly more, but it's not a significant impact!

    Uh oh I’m always excited when Style Me Jenn uploads…but I’m scared I don’t suit a dewy look lol. Because that’s the type I like, but I can’t ignore the truth
    Edit: ok but now I’m confused… I have a very high visual weight (prominent nose, dark round hooded eyes, sharp chin), high cheekbones, and a longer diamond shaped face. I thought this would mean my cheeks are flat, but even looking at my thinnest faced pics, I appear to have a kind of full fleshiness in my cheeks? They’re not wide or very round except when I smile, but it’s almost like I just have a lot of flesh in the area on the sides of my nose. I have naturally normal to dry skin but live in a climate where it’s always dry. I do always feel like I need to hydrate and moisturize more. Which is why I love Korean skincare and makeup. But I really can’t tell what my conclusion is supposed to be! I don’t really feel that I have flat frontal cheeks, they’re very full and pattable (especially right now with weight gain). Looking at my face, it looks like my cheekbones are actually not very close to the front of my face. They’re kind of out to the side near my ears, and the front of my cheeks is not bony at all but fleshy and full. I THINK the dewy look really suits me, especially on the cheeks, between brows, and nose? But I always trust Jenn’s advice.
    Oh! Ok so my face is actually a bit like Jenn’s herself in terms of having fuller cheeks and longer, narrower face shape. So maybe she could tell me what it actually counts as??

    • @stylemejenn
      @stylemejenn  Рік тому

      Hey Shirin! First of all, having high visual weight in your features doesn't really have any relation to the fullness / fleshiness of the cheeks, so you could definitely have both (Like Vanessa Hudgens)! The areas I've called out to avoid are the usual areas where the skin gets the oily the quickest, but if you live in a dry climate and if your skin is naturally on the drier side you might not find that these areas become noticeably oily as opposed to someone with oilier skin / lives in a more humid climate. I hope that helps with explaining (I'm not sure if I understood the question 100% tbh lol)? If you feel like dewy skin suits you, you are probably right!! We always instinctively know what looks good / bad on us because it's what makes us feel good ❤

    • @shirin9452

      @@stylemejenn hi Jenn! Thank you so much for actually taking the time to answer, I love love love your channel and I expect it to be everyone’s go-to soon. Sorry if I was really confusing and long winded. So the reason I don’t know what I should be doing is because my face has very high cheekbones and high visual weight. And I know that it’s possible to have high visual weight and also not have flat cheeks. But I don’t know if my cheeks count as flat. I think they look kind of full rn especially with weight gain, but my face is long and narrow. So do I have flat cheeks??
      While trying to figure it out, I was seeing you in the video (you’ve been looking so cute btw!), and I suddenly realized that your face is slightly like mine, longer and not as wide, with similar cheek volume. So I was like oh! If Jenn has flat cheeks, I do too, and if she doesn’t, I also don’t. So I was like maybe I can ask her with that reference 👀 it’s also me in my profile pic, without makeup, if that makes a better reference!

    • @stylemejenn
      @stylemejenn  11 місяців тому

      Ahh idk why YT didn't notify me about your reply - I just saw it while I was looking for some comments around visual weight! I personally consider myself to have pretty taut cheeks - I do have a wide face because my cheekbones tend to protrude outward more, but I generally don't have a lot of facial fat and my frontal cheeks happen to be especially flat! Of course with facial movements you will naturally see some volume there when I talk or smile, but with a straight face with no expression my cheeks really lack that volume or curve I was talking about in the video :) Hope that helps!! (And thank you for the kind compliments about me and my channel hehehe so flattered! ❤️❤️❤️)

    This is the definitive video guide to do it right!
    Enough with this glass skin frenzy!
    Gwyneth Paltrow's makeup was so wrong I hope she did it herself not a professional.
    I was born in an era when mat was mandatory. No one would go out with shiny skin ever.
    Now that can be too much of mat, good in your 20s but dreadful and dull once you hit the 40s but some balance point needs to be found.
    The glass skin comes from Korea because they associate it with youth and high moisture, BUT... they both can do it right and they have suitable faces for it.
    And yet some famous Korean idols look like they just rolled in grease/vaseline. Eww!
    It looks incredibly unnatural even on their round faces when taken to the extreme.
    When the glass skin is done on Western faces honestly it looks much worse.
    Tons of Western girls doing glass skin on YT...
    I guess that Caucasian or Indo-European face features are too strong and pointy for that.
    I accidentally discovered that a bit of vaseline on my bare face looks nice in the area around my eyes because it makes my lines less obvious. That's ok, not more.
    I did it when hiking in cold winter in order to protect my skin and it worked fantastic for that scope.

    Once again you make me understand why some things just work/don't work for me. I am a light spring and have been recommended glowy skin bc of the natural grayish appearance. But glowy doesn't work for me 😭 I go more for peachy tones in my makeup to liven up my skin. I also have high visual features and a quite plump face naturally and I love wearing a lot of makeup as I think it suits my face better than light makeup. Aaaand now I get why 🥲 thank u yet again
