I loved this video! I would never had thought to landscape my whole front yard with concrete, but I'm building a cabin in the woods and this method will actually make it possible to get the landscape I want. Thanks so much for the education!
Hi Robert, Thanks for the kind comments. Appreciate it. If you haven't already you can check out free pdf downloads and more on how we do this stuff at davehenderson.podia.com. Also have more on this topic in my blogs at www.daverhenderson.com Anyway, thanks again and if you have any other questions let me know. God bless! Mr. Dave :)
@@DaveHendersonFakeRockVideos I appreciate your response. I do have a question for you. Approximately how many bags of concrete would it take to build a 3x3xx5 boulder? That's going to be my first rock. It will be the first in a series of waterfalls across the front of my cabin.
@@robertray6021 depends on how you prepar the rebar and burlap or pegboard. Loose burlap backing means it'll sag and need more mud for coverage. Also depends on how much concrete you want to cover the rebar with. Should be min. of 2". For me concrete is so cheap and I'm always using it I usually just get as much as my van carry. If I need more I just pick up more. Big jobs I order a pallet or two. Anyway, hope that helps. 😎
@@DaveHendersonFakeRockVideos Yup! Thanks.
Definitely need to get on the course train👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻

awesome , nice job
Hey man nice work.., what’s the mix you use, what’s the ration of each component.
i'm inspired to do my own pool!
If it takes me half a year from dig out to finish, where will rain water go? i need to understand a bottom drain? and the way things work while doing all the work!
Hey Craig, thanks for the comment. Ya, having a pool is awesome. Especially if you live in a warm weather area. Anyway, rainwater goes where it goes. On bottom drains you need to split the into two drains separated by 3' minimum to avoid suction drowning risks. More on the basics here in my blog: www.daverhenderson.com/blog/2018/11/17/how-to-build-a-concrete-swimming-pool Lot's of how-to content online to learn from. So take the time to do your research before you launch into things. Will be an adventure for sure. Best of luck to you. Cheers, Mr. Dave :)
Mr. Dave , do you prefer the spec mix over the Portland silica combo for your texturing from your older videos. Also is that what you use as the foundation to secure the rebar and wire mesh for support. Thank you for your time
Hi Scott, Either will work cuz they're pretty similar. Spec is pre-mixed so that's usually easier. Then for the structural coats and foundations I prefer 3000 psi concrete. Hope that helps. Also have more cool stuff linked to my website www.daverhenderson.com. Just scroll down and follow links...
Cheers!
Dave. :)
I think it is super cool. It looks like a lot of work. How much would you charge to do my pool like that? I'm in HB. Thanks for all your videos I have been watching you for a few years now. Wow! I'm always impressed. I know how hard it is because I have been working on my pond for years now and it's always something more. But I would love to have the rock water fall with a Jacuzzi in it and a grotto and swim up bar with a cool bed and fan inside my grotto, or maybe a lazy river that went around my grotto. So cool. I live for these videos they give me hope that one day I will be able to have something like this to. For now I just dream.
When you have pool tile in conjunction with your rockswhere the rocks overhang into the pool tile line (or below), do you remove the tile in that area or build over the top of it? I am adding a waterfall to my personal pool and about to add tile and a few of your satellite rocks and am needing to know which order to do first. I appreciate it Mr. Dave!
Thanks for the question Brandon. I might have built over tiles in the past but now I work with tiles gone then can water proof over the new faux rock, add texture coat, and paint after which new tile can be finished up to the rockwork margins. With the waterproofing applied onto the pool walls a few inches beyond the fake rock the new tile goes over a sealed membrane area thus minimizing potential leaks. Hope that makes sense. 👍😎
@DaveHendersonVideo perfect sense! Was gonna waterproof over the bond beam and tile line anyhow so I will just plan on doing it this way as well! I appreciate the tip!

Do you have a video on how you build your rock panels that you seam together?
Hi Amanda, Thanks for the message! All of the rockwork I do is built from scratch. The video you watched is of a job someone else built using castings or panels that I came in and remodeled. If you search around online I'm sure you'll find some sources for that kind of product. You can also check out my free pdf downloads or grab a copy of my ebook "Makin' Rocks" at www.davehenderson.podia.com for more helpful info on the in's and out's of faux rock construction. Also I have other info at www.daverhenderson.com including some blogs on how to build stuff... Anyway, I wish you well and thanks again for the message! Cheers! Mr. Dave :)
want to make a pond look like a natural spring with shelf rocks and making those of wire form and rebar and then coat with cement. any pointers watched couple of your videos for inspiration.

i'm confused. was there previous videos i'm missing? because the title indicates from start to finish. which indicates a biginning and middle of which after watching the whole thing i didn' see any. I's a wonderful water feature though.
Hi Mary, Thanks for the question. What you see in the video shows a quick summary of the stages of work with the rebar sticking out in the middle followed by the concrete being added, texture coating, and then final painting. Have more how-to stuff, including free pdf downloads and more at davehenderson.podia.com if ya like. Hope you have an awesome day! Cheers, Mr. Dave :)

Looks awesome....what does a project like this cost to add to an existing inground pool?

Great work Dave, I want to build a big two story rock formation to set a new construction house against out in Joshua tree, CA. Would you like to quote on timing, materials and costs? It’s early stage so a top of your head guesstimate works fine at this stage. Lmk and thanks for the videos.
Hi David, Thanks for the message. Appreciate it. I am totally slammed with work here in San Diego so I'm not doing anything out of town currently. Might change down the line... But if you'd like to send me some plans that would give me an idea of what you want to build I could throw some numbers at you nonetheless. Send the info to dave@daverhenderson.com Cheers, Mr. Dave :)
Do you use 3:1 sand mix on these?
I tried using a type S masonry mix. It isnt very pretty at all. BUT instead of ripping it all out I'll just add to it!!! 😊
Are you making videos to teach and sell? Or publish on UA-cam? Would you mind if I faxed you over something. I think you might find it interesting.
It's beautiful! I love watching these videos of yours!
I use a product called Spec Mix from home depot,www.homedepot.com/p/Spec-Mix-94-lb-Type-S-Masonry-Mortar-0179594000/100317718 and also make mixes at 2 to 1 or 1 to 1. Depends on the application. If you add a new coat of cement/mortar use an acrylic add-mix to the batch. It'll help it stick better. On Course I will be creating some soon. Check out my new website at www.daverhenderson.com Sign up for my newsletter and be the first to here about them! Lastly, if you have something you want to send just send me it to dave@daverhenderson.com Thanks!
Dave Henderson
Do you have a preference burlap over peg board?
Burlap for really curvy locations, Peg for more flat ones. But Peg mostly at all below water portions of the project. Want and need to get good coverage over steel... See instagram.com/p/BjIeVRnAVKR/?taken-by=hendersonsculpturalarts for an example... :)
Mr. Dave, do you prefer the spec mix over the Portland silica combo you used in some of you videos in the past for the texture coating?
Mr. Dave! I’ve been binge watching your stuff for hours it’s great! I have a few questions how could I be in touch with you?
Thanks for your message Tony! Yes, I'd be happy chatting with you. You can also send me an email at dave@daverhenderson.com I also have free pdf downloads at www.davehenderson.podia.com There's other cool stuff at www.daverhenderson.com including my blogs and links to my Facebook and Instagram sites. Anyway, thanks again for your message and I look forward to hearing from you when you are able. Cheers! Mr. Dave :)
can we carve that on the wall of room?
Absolutely. Just need to attach metal lath, (diamond lath) to the wall with staples, and then apply a scratch coat over that (mortar mix of sand and Portland cement, 2 to 1 sand to Portland ratio, or whatever your cement material is in your area). After that you can a 2nd or 3rd coat of texture coat, (same mortar mix) to get your final texture. After that paint... Good luck. :)

Possibly. What country and what kind of budget? :) Fyi there's more how to stuff at www.davehenderson.podia.com including FREE pdf downloads. :) Also have blogs at www.daverhenderson.com. Cheers, Mr. Dave. :)
Sri Lanka
Budget depending on the project.
Approx 200- 250 m2 pool with grotto, several waterfalls, small bridge and rock formations/creations.
A rather big project...
What is the munimum price for a project of that size?
ALL pump systems and witing MUST be imported due to quality.
Something like this
ua-cam.com/video/giX2QpoAC9w/v-deo.html
@@montpelee I'm currently on dialysis so traveling to Sri Lanka would be a bit much I'm afraid. However, there are other faux rock contractors that might be interested.. You could put up the project info on this site and see who responds. Just go to: facebook.com/groups/172711346262002/ and leave a message... Good luck! :)
Dave is there a way to talk to you directly? I am in Brasil and would very much like to ask some questions....
Hi Carib, best way is to just send me your questions at dave@daverhenderson.com :)
how do you waterproof your mix?
3 things depending on the situation. Good ole' Thoroseal for solid non-expansive/contraction applications, (rocks on the ground with tons of steel and/or below water level. Miracote Membrane C for upper areas in caves and grotto's due to it's be elastomeric and able to flex and then MiraPrime Aqua-Blok XL underneath all membrane areas. See this link for more info on this product. miracote.com/products/miraprime-specialty-primers/miraprime-aqua-blok-xl/ Good Luck! :)
