Oldest since 98 . First in 92 . Great trucks . Push ,pull, jump , all around basic structure gear reductions with suspension adjustments beyond any other vehicle out there. Legs had to retire before the 30 mile yearly trail hiking.
Just love the Clod still have my original i was one of those very lucky kid who got one for christmas when they where first out. They are just such fun. One of my favorite RCs.
I love my Clod and you're right, it's an absolute tank! I've jumped mine off 5ft hills, driven in snow, ran it thru creeks several inches deep, chased after pets, climbed down stairs, hell even one of my grandkids done tried to ride on top of it and the only thing I've ever broken was 1 body post! I have a Revo and a Double Dare and I run my Clod way more than the other 2 trucks, it's so much more fun than the other trucks!
My first Tamiya product. Got it in 1988 with Chevy grill and all. I remember running to get my friend next door and we each picking up the tires. I was 10. By far, in my opinion, the most iconic Tamiya regardless of product line.
Same here, got my 1st one in 1989 if I’m not mistaken. Not sure how many more I’ll be building already have 21 or 22 of them and I still have like 2 or 3 sets of gearboxes that I have to figure out what I want to do with.
@@waynenorbreyjr9371 my original one was at the hobby shop and was stolen by someone. They built me another one around 1992 and I don’t think it was a Chevy badge. I got rid of it around 1996. I bought a SCB when it came out but it’s just not the same feeling. I really wish Tamiya would do a limited re-release of the original. I’d buy two .
What a beautiful truck….I remember my best mate coming back from Hong Kong in 87 with one built up and needed two suitcases to get it back to a sleepy little Oxfordshire village….he was the Don let me tell you, I remember laying down and him driving over me….for about 5mins until the 1200mah battery died!….good times. Your friend is a lucky fellow, another top job by you dude👍🏻😍
The Clod IS Tamiya's most successful RC kit of all time.....it has never gone out of production in one form or another since 1987, I'd say that makes it pretty iconic, both to all those who have them, and Tamiya themselves.
I remember when I first saw the tire of Clodbuster and after being used to seeing and having Tyco R/C in the 80’s I was definitely amazed by just the tire size.
OMG Glenn i remember drooling over this and the Bullhead wayyy back!! The size of it ( back then ) was incredible and I always wanted one but could never afford one unfortunately!! Impo our beautiful hobby has started to lose it's innocence during recent years due to the emergence of those insanely fast 8S+ Monster sized RC Cars!!?? My goodness there is even an absolutely GIGANTIC Petrol engined Truck available now that is almost same size as a small car for goodness sake!!?? Actually dangerous in the wrong hands some of them!!?? So to see the original "Big Truck" again is such a joy! Thanks again for another belter vid Glenn!! Wes, Liverpool UK.
Great video Glenn. I love the Clod. The shell looks great but really comes alive with some extra detailing around the windows/doors and the rear light clusters. The Clod is a joy to run if you accept the quirky nature and its inherent flaws. That's what makes it a Clod. I have 4 at the mo and I have done one also with on axle steering but left the rest original and it handles so much better but is Still a Clod. If you change chassis etc etc they you may as well have bought a different truck. A Clod is a Clod! Accept it. 😂And it has got to be the best box art out there imo
I always enjoy your vids. With your passing you bring rc to the next level. Unfortunately I mostly can’t react. During the weekend I have more time. If I don’t comment, it is not that I don’t like your vids. I am always happy when post a new vid. Thank you for the effort you put in to make the vids 👍
Awesome job my friend!!! Love the truck. The roll bar was mounted on white plastic stand offs, I might have some, and the screws, nuts and washers...I do have the stand offs!!!
Love my Clod. You definitely have a point about it’s performance but, for me it’s kind of like the lunchbox. Fun to drive for what it is, because of the way in lumbers around and depends on those big tires for most of its suspension. Anyway, beautiful example you’ve built. Simply gorgeous!!!
I have to say I love the clod. Great job there on the restore! I first saw one at a Tamiya Club race day in the UK in the 80's I was running my Hornet and saw all these really cool cars...! I now own an original one minus the shell, I got it early 2000's it had never been run . I ran it stock for a while, but like you say not much going on. It worked well climbing small offroad routes. I then added a Super Rooster ESC and lower turn motors and fully ballraced it. It went like a rocket and to a whole new level. I also have a TXT-1 that I never run because I looked at the alloy route and went for one of those. But like I say that has just sat and now I am not sure about running!
Glen I agree completely with what you have said about the Clod. I recently got a 87 and I'm restoring it. I had a play with it before stripping it down and yes it's a tank that doesn't handle well at all and is quite slow. It is iconic and I love the size of the thing but as you said in original form they are good to look at. Great video mate and keep em coming but you are such a bad influence 😂
I had a Wild Onew then a Clod back in the 80's. Had the Wild One first so when I got the Clod I was not impressed, until I ran it on thick grass which the Wild One couldn't do. Even though it was slow it gave me the capability that I didn't get with the Wild One .
OMG! What a beast!😳. Ive never really appreciated just how big the thing is. Like you said, this could be something truly amazing if you pumped aload of money into it. LED lighting would be a must and it would look incredible. Anyhoo, another excellent video. Thoroughly enjoyed it!!!😃👍👍
I love my clodbuster, I always struggle to figure out a good place to put it, so its always in some random place blocking something LOL Love the original buster, its just that little bit more cool than the newer one.
Thanks for sharing your hard work, it does look beautiful. For some reason, the lunchbox looks more appealing. Never a fan of the monster truck genre (or its look-alike) but I’m kinda tempted to get the 1/32 version for display.
Great job as always. I have an original in much of the same state that one started. I always look at it and think about how much work it is going to take. Absolutely worth the effort.
I love it and the tire writing looks great. My only very slight issue with the Clod is that I'm just not a big fan of motor-on-axle RC's in general. Don't know why - I'm kinda odd that way. I agree with you about actually running the truck. They really don't go well out-of-the -box. Anyway, the truck looks epic!! Well done my friend. The owner is lucky to have it. I just got an Axial SCX6 so for me, the term "big RC" has been redefined.
Great overview and a nice looking bowtie Clodbuster! I appreciate everything you put out, but I have to disagree with the comment about it not being a real monster truck. I would encourage anyone with this opinion to check out photos and videos of the Monster Trucks of the era in 1987. Heavy, slow, bouncy cumbersome car crushers with killer names and often not even 4x4x4! Tamiya did an incredible job of recreating the monster trucks of the time! 👍
Looks great Glenn and I thats the same feeling I had about the Clod but im sure it would have been fun but its the Bruiser I remember as the Holy Grail RC. I didnt see the Clod Buster till later and did even know it came out that early till you said so but its all good to learn something new. The upgraded one seems to run so much better and you should do it so we can "Look at it!"
I would be driving my original gold pan rc10 straight off the press looking at these thinking "wow, that guy is soooo cool!". To the point I fitted lunch box tires on my rc10 with a blackfoot body on it. First RC10T who knows. Sweet ride Glenn.
to me the poster boy model from the Tamiya Legends of the past is, and will always be, Wild Willy. of course I'm probably biased as I've just pulled mine out of the back of the shed to begin a restoration which could take some time.
Apologies if you have mentioned this but the decal you have on the windscreen I believe was supposed to go on the bonnet. I could be mistaken I've sold on my vintage manual but that's where I put mine. Box art I believe was black around the windows and sun roof with silver on the corner windows
I agree with you, if you upgrade the Clod it’s not a Clod anymore and it’s really expensive. In my opinion you could just buy something else that’s more capable to run . But if you don’t mind spending the money I’m all for hopping up the Clod .
Thing is Glenn I can imagine after all your hard work you would probably drive it very gently. Give it time and you would be getting bricks and wood and doing huge jumps over the kids up the street and you would love it.,
That’s a super looking original clod. I’ve got my Chevy badge clod still to do a running video on but just not had the weather really. I personally like the clod how it is, yes it’s a total tank but it’s handling is very quirky and that’s part of what makes it a clod so mine will stay unmodified. Anyway cool vid ;)
Damn, you've done a fantastic job of that Clod Buster mate, nice one!! I've always loved the Clod Buster, at least the look of it, and yeah, in standard kit form they don't run that well, especially the steering. I'm soooo tempted to get one at some point, but I've got nowhere to put it. Awesome video as always!
First time I saw the Clod was probably 88 in Bolton model mart a Lad came in with his mum and drove it around the shop then bought one I picked up a mint in box Chevy clod years ago I’m torn weather to build it or not. I think I might have to I don’t think I would ever sell the kit.
That came out great mate, there is a reinforcement plate for that part of the chassis that is cracked from the the super clodbuster that should fit.. I have two of these and building a 3rd but I would love an ordinary Chevy grilled or like this
Well Definitely a Tamiya Icon for sure Glenn, I bought the RE-RE Super Clod Buster just to have in the collection , not sure if they gave the Title "super" as its the re-re but still had to have it in the collection as most of my Tamiya kits 40 out of the 50 are re re but just had to have that beast to look at and not in any hurry to build it as finding the room for the display of it is another isuues as its not like a standard 1/10-1/12 Tamiya But Enjoyed the video a great deal and thanks again for a great time warp.
My understanding is that the “Super” part included hop-ups designed and sold for the original Clod kit. That and Chevy actually sued Tamiya for the badging on the front, which is why the re-re’s are badgeless. Same part and will fit the original but without the Chevy or GMC badges. Some like the re-re look but if you’re a die-hard collector, you need to have the Chevy grille or it’s just not a real Clod.
I think your perspective of the Clod is spot on Glenn, its a bit rubbish to drive in standard form. But have having said that... have you tried one with nothing other than with a hobbywing dual esc & a 3s lipo?!?!?!?! OMG!!!! 😂🤣🤣🤣 it hilarious ! 😂😂🤣🤣
I really need to get my Bullhead out of the attic. It needs some cable replacements, maybe an esc too, don't think it has any cracks, I bought it new in 98 and never used it, still have the manual too. Love this clod buster!
Looking fantastic Glenn!🤩👍 But disagree a little l had a standard Clod for a time several years ago and on the beach they are amazing! Slow yes but it goes absolutely everywhere over anything! soft sand no problems! But yeah very slow a terrible performance in a way but on the big open wide space of a beach Its super cool fun and a sight to see and unstoppable!🤩👍But yeah get what you say too though about when folk modified them to death!
@@TAMIYALegends haha no buddy you have a great valid point but in open space where the limits of this beast does not matter and control and precision really don't matter at all this beast blows your mind! I can't believe how it keeps ploughing over anything in it path! I need to get one again! Great vid love your channel keep up the passion my friend 👍
I remember them before 7.2 battery packs think the clod took 7 Ds batteries talk about a boat anchor one good thing stayed on the ground pretty easy 😆 🤣 😂 😹 but they are and always will have that cool factor to them
Enjoy your videos the grasshopper was the first one I seen as a young man ha ha. I have an old super champ I think they called it that I need to restore. And a few others grasshopper frog lunchbox. But I really want a monster truck. And yes I can get One of the newer monster trucks on the market. Would this kit be their best monster truck?
Looks great! Awesome that it's an original with the bowtie! I purchased a black edition Clodbuster last year and absolutely love the new livery. I hope to do a video on it soon as this version has already been discontinued. However, I would definitely agree with you that it's kind of a tank. I've always wanted one, but I think it will be more of a shelf queen. I see you have goodyear lettering around the tires. Was that on the original clod buster tires? Would love to do something similar with mine.
I used to pull my kids on their skateboards with my clodbuster (doesn't do the gearboxes any good or motor!......but fun😆) the clodbuster was a good scale monster truck of the 80s obviously different compared to modern day racing monster trucks and it was a bit of a donkey to own and run🧐
Hey dude, agree about the white, but not entirely true. Try soaking in a 50/50 solution of H2O/H2O2…and watch that white come back. That extra oxygen makes all the difference 🤣🤣🤣🤣
4 Wheeled Vehicle, 4 Wheel Drive, 4 wheel steering. If you have three axles like some trucks and have two axles driving this would be 6x4. Three axles one driven 6x2 like the Tyrell P34. 😎
Lots of ❤ for the Clodbuster. Was it a dog in the performance department? Yes but IMO besides that monster truck look, the rear steer was the big draw.
You must be joking... the clodbuster with stock suspension handles and jumps just like a primitive 1980s monster truck. It could not be any more realistic.
Blimey!!! Glenn's shrunk, looking like Ronnie Corbett in a big chair lol, that's one massive truck beautifully restored, looks fantastic 👍😎

Just rewatched so I know where my reproduction decals go 👍
The roll bar mounts are body coloured I believe - there are some on eBay
I really need to get my Bullhead out of the attic. It needs some cable replacements, maybe an esc too, don't think it has any cracks, I bought it new in 98 and never used it, still have the manual too. Love this clod buster!
Oh that’s fantastic that you still have it from new 😊😊😊
@@TAMIYALegends yep, I'm a bit of a hoarder 🤣 have a tgx mk1 up there too. That needs a lot of repair though haha
Looking fantastic Glenn!🤩👍
But disagree a little l had a standard Clod for a time several years ago and on the beach they are amazing!
Yeah maybe I’ve done it an injustice as I’ve never really had a prolonged run with one of them tbh 🤕👊🏻
So gawdy… so cool.
All a stock Clod needs is on axle steering to completely transform the way it handles.
What piece do you need exactly for the bottom of the rollbar?
I’ve actually got it now Ryan but thanks anyway my friend 😊👊🏻
I remember them before 7.2 battery packs think the clod took 7 Ds batteries talk about a boat anchor one good thing stayed on the ground pretty easy 😆 🤣 😂 😹 but they are and always will have that cool factor to them
Thanks for watching and commenting Tim 😊👊🏻
Excellent I really like the look of the Black Edition Clod 😊👊🏻
Try an find the txt-1 all metal chassis clodbuster monster truck!
Yeah I’ve not come across one yet 😊👊🏻
Clods are in stock again UK, typical when I don't have the money
Haha yeah that’s usually the case 😤👊🏻
Amazing
I need tyre decals
Feel like it's been a while since we've seen you drive anything down at the track Glenn. Any plans for upcoming videos?
Hey 👋🏻
Actually this Wednesdays video is a running one, it’s not at the track though as it’s the TC01 😊👊🏻
@@TAMIYALegends Looking forward to it 😎👍🏻
How come you downloaded the bullhead manual and not the clod?
Think it looks amazing. You might be able to plastic weld the chassis.
Thanks buddy 😊👊🏻
I used to pull my kids on their skateboards with my clodbuster (doesn't do the gearboxes any good or motor!......but fun😆) the clodbuster was a good scale monster truck of the 80s obviously different compared to modern day racing monster trucks and it was a bit of a donkey to own and run🧐
Haha that’s awesome Phil, I bet the kids absolutely loved that 🤩👊🏻
I own one same as original white one lol
Haha excellent 😊👊🏻
I have a super cloud buster from the elf.
The most iconic of all time? You said that was the grasshopper Glen.🤔
I missed Monster Truck out in that sentence 🤯
Fair enough,we all make mistakes.😂
Hey dude, agree about the white, but not entirely true. Try soaking in a 50/50 solution of H2O/H2O2…and watch that white come back. That extra oxygen makes all the difference 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Excellent information thanks for sharing with us my friend 😎👊🏻
it says 4x4x4...whats the 3rd 4x? 4 wheel drive, 4 wheel steering,
The way I always thought about that was, 4x4 (drive) x4 steering 🤷🏼♂️
4 Wheeled Vehicle, 4 Wheel Drive, 4 wheel steering.
If you have three axles like some trucks and have two axles driving this would be 6x4. Three axles one driven 6x2 like the Tyrell P34. 😎
RC10, Avanti & Blackfoot…..
Fantastic trio 🤩🤩🤩
Lots of ❤ for the Clodbuster. Was it a dog in the performance department? Yes but IMO besides that monster truck look, the rear steer was the big draw.
I think it’s probably one of the most loved RC’s Tamiya have ever made 😊👊🏻
How many other cars can float like a Clod ?🤔
Haha great point 🤣👊🏻
At least it is box art. Lol
You must be joking... the clodbuster with stock suspension handles and jumps just like a primitive 1980s monster truck. It could not be any more realistic.
The clod is really bad at handling due to all the unsprung weight. We have an agrios and they are fantastic runners
Thanks for watching my friend 😎👊🏻
Good looking Truck, unfortunately it doesn't drive that nice. Also no Ball bearing as stock.
Haha looks way better than it drives 😊👊🏻
