Such a great tutorial. So much helpful and great tips and information that no other tutorials have. Thank you so much for sharing your experience with resin.
Hello Samantha just wanted you to know I really enjoyed your video and learned so much from it you were so soft spoken and real. I had to see it again. But I couldn't find the heat gun listed in the information I really wanted one of thoseso I will have to look for that. Thanks again.
It looks like white gives better lace effect. Is there a reason for this? Is it to do with thickness of the mix or liquid, paste or powder products? Great video 🇬🇧
Thank you I have watched several videos and tried my first piece yesterday and failed however you helped me to see having the correct white is important I used an acrylic and it just blended instead of lacing thanks again for you insightful video
I loved how equally the lacing was in your ring dish. Did you put the white in the center of the dish to spread it out in all directions? I wonder how to achieve this because there is so little room for moving the resin around with the heat gun 🙂 Beautiful tutorial and I like your gentle and kind personality 💝
Thank you so much! For the ring dish yes- add just a small amount to the middle to start (easier to add more than remove it) and just apply heat until it spread out the way I wanted it to! ❤️
love your videos and thank you very much for all the detail . I just want to know if you have any information on white numbers for clocks. I do resin clocks but find it difficult to find white clock numbers, arabic, about 20mm in height. My clocks are only about 30cm in diameter. Thanks again...
Thank you for making this video! I’m spinning my wheels trying to get the lacing effect but am not having any luck. I used ArtResin and mica powder for the ocean. For the white I use 1/4 cup of ArtResin with 8 drops of Castin Craft white pigment and two drops of Ranger snow cap alcohol ink, as I’ve read it helps with creating the cells. When I push the white away with the blower, it just runs all over the surface like spilled milk. Absolutely no lacing :(. Am I using too much castin craft or not enough? Do I need to let the white resin thicken up before using so it does just run?
Dika O'Real hi! This heat gun just has high and low and no speed setting. I use low most of the time and how quickly I move it depends on if the resin is thick (moves slower, needs heat longer) or thin (moves faster, needs less )
hey! great tutorial, just one question, is the dark colour you put on the background resin? and if so, do you need to wait for it to dry before lacing the white over?
@@SamanthasDoodles thank you for the quick response, when you worked with the paste or casting craft how much would you add to the resin, i.e. for 1 ounce resin what is the apprx drips or amount you would use (apprx) for ocean waves..thanks
Once mixed I usually just go ahead with pouring. Depending on your particular resin and additives it may help to let it sit but be mindful of the working time so it doesn’t harden
Thank you for sharing the tutorials samantha.. Somehow my white traces back every time I am creating cells.. I am not sure what is the reason.. Could you help
@@SamanthasDoodles yeah!! I thought so too.. I am using artist resin by epoke.. It's the best brand here and other artists are able to get it right with awesome cells
@@SamanthasDoodles Sorry, I couldn't hear you address it. It took me a little time to figure out I could use the closed captions. No offense, there was good info I really wanted to know! Again, thanks!
Loved the video❤ I have tried my hands on the ocean waves but failed every time. How thick does the white pigment hAve to be to form lacings? I wait till it becomes like sugar syrup consistency, but the rest of the poured resin on the board thickens too and it becomes very hard to move the resin. It would simply spread on the entire board like clouds (no lacing or cells). I have also tried keeping the white less thicker than sugar syrup, that didn't work too. What am I missing here please? Should the clear resin be less viscous than the white? Also, how close do you keep the gun to your resin?
No closer than 1/2 an inch to the board. White has to be denser- that’s why I use the pigment paste (any reputable brand should do) and like to do a layer of just clear and white at the end. I never had to let it thicken
Thanks for the response. So do you ideally use only the white in pigment paste and the rest using less viscous colors like powder pigments? Or can we use all of the colors in form of pigment pastes?
@@oyendrilagupta6378 I haven’t done resin since about 2 years ago lol but I only used pigment pastes if I wanted cells and lacing. Glitter micas etc are beautiful but don’t give the same effect
Samantha I saw the description already. But I didn't get the clarity about the quantity how much I need to use. And for the lacing mixture, I have to mix alcohol ink and white liquid pigment color??? And if this is right, then how much I need to mix?
@@anjalisingh6871 hi, I can only speak to the materials I use. For this I used pigment paste, never more than 10% pigment in the resin. I do not regularly work with alcohol ink so I don’t think I’m qualified to give tips on that material, sorry! Good luck
when you pour (the gold for example) it looks so thick. Are you letting the resin sit is a little bit before you pore so it thickens? Also for the white, how much resin to you add to the white (more white than resin to keep it thick)? THANK YOU!
Honestly all I can think is that it was just recorded later in my pour session and that’s why it was thicker, I don’t typically let my resin thicken up intentionally but as the work time goes by it tends to do so. I stick to the same less than 10% ratio when mixing white in as well and just mix up as much as I think I might need. Sorry that’s not more help!
Hi, thank you for sharing your technique. Could you also share who you follow on Instagram? You mentioned some that explain the science behind the process and I am really intrigued. Could you share a link maybe to someone who explains it for me?
Beverly Cassidy hi Beverly, I cannot recall the name of the account which is why I did not link it. I would recommend doing some research and following some of the larger resin accounts on Instagram.
Victoria hello! I’ve honestly done it both ways. If it’s too thin the lacing won’t spread out well. Somewhere in the middle seems to work best for me in my experience, especially if using multiple colors
I tried to achieve this effect with opaque white concentrate, white ink, white pigment powder, and white acrylic paint and could not reproduce this effect with any of the colors, so I’m assuming it’s the epoxy. Avoid Dr. crafty epoxy. Also, if you notice it is not working as in the video but slightly in different spots, stop immediately and wipe it off. Do not continue to use the heat to blow. It will dry.
I’m not sure what concentrate is- did you try pigment paste as recommended? I highly highly recommend pigment paste and masepoxies (table top is my go to) or counterculture diy (artist resin).
Samantha Ludwitzke castin Craft opaque pigment concentrate for polyester and epoxy resin. I’m not saying your method doesn’t work, I’m just saying the other options I listed don’t work if anyone thought they could substitute the paste you’re using. I will try again with the paste. I was trying to use what I had available in the shops in my area before I ordered the paste, as this looks amazing and I was excited to start it. I’m impatient lol
Oh gotcha. I did the tutorial with these exact materials and recommend using them because they have made lacing almost foolproof for me. That was the point of me sharing the video since I did a ton of experimenting until I found what worked for me. I’ve had issues with the other stuff, but different things work for different people. ☺️ Good luck!
