    Great video really enjoyed it kielder forest its Beautiful, my grandad was the chief Forrester responsible for the planning and planting of kielder Forest , when they were excavating the site they found quite a lot of bog oak which my grandad gave to the MouseMan and he made some furniture for our family from it im really proud of this family history . Thanks for making these videos I really enjoy watching them

    You’re right, Damien, it’s hard to put in words the feeling of wild camping, especially when you’re solo. But anyone can see the joy on your face.

    Great video and a super site to have an overnighter. Well, at least you had the company of nature for a while, but at least woody didn't serenade you during your sleep. As for the rules of the forest, it's always do as we tell you and not do as we do. Very enjoyable video Happy New Year Fell Wanderer.

    May I share two things with you? 1.) Your honesty about the things you talk about is so refreshing!! I miss that in so many other videos. Guys are trying to make you believe they are deep forest wild camping and you can hear traffic in the not so distant back ground. So many talk about how great their night was while looking haggard and tired just to slip up later in their video to tell you the night sucked. I'm so tired of that crap and so glad you are not that way! Thank you! If you're hot you say so, if you're cold you say so. Others think they are less a man if they don't talk like they have steel balls or some other kind of testosterone imbalance that they think makes them tough. Their just pigeon heads. So thank you for being straight, I appreciate that more than Mr. Bill trying to be the Terminator. 2.) You pick some of the best camp sites I watch on utube. I love seeing the places you go to, love your camera work and let's not forget you great sense of humor. Great combinations. Yeah, after all that butt kissing I'm not even going to ask you for money!! HaHa!! :-) Keep up the great work, thanks for bring so encouraging, all the best to you! Bibsoutdoors

    From your videos I've waded through so far, this woodland area must rank amongst my most favourite. Even from the video it's got a great vibe about the place. I'd have taken the British army arctic bag myself - you can always open the zip but you can't add what you don't have.
    Cracking!

    • @Fell_Wanderer
      @Fell_Wanderer  4 роки тому

      The arctic bag is warm but its size puts me off buying one. I carry around 35L in a pack so have choose gear which strikes a balance between weight/bulk and a comfortable, warm and safe night out in the hills.

    • @TheVocalMale
      @TheVocalMale 4 роки тому

      @@Fell_Wanderer It's the only area I won't compromise on. Elsewhere I'll go minimalist, including the stove. I've done a minus 6 in the arctic bag and it was as expected -
      warm as toast. I think it's rated to minus 15.

    Annoying copyright notices from Google. Half the time they get them wrong, I've got one video flagged and it is the wrong group claiming copyright. Dion and the Belmonts - The Wanderer is no longer protected by copyright in the EU.
    Good video... I must've missed it the first time round. I need to get up to Kielder this coming year... got a few places I want to walk to but need to get myself a decent fulltime job before I can afford to go wild camping... can barely afford to hike.

      Hi Kenneth, thanks for your comment and subscribing. I could suggest gear to use but what works for me, might not work for you. In the beginning, I used cheap gear and upgraded later because I wanted more lightweight items, but thats usually more expensive. As you probably know from watching my videos, it doesnt have to cost much but has to be up to the job. I swear by the Crivit brand from LIDL, they usually get camping and hiking gear in the spring and doesn't cost the earth. Whatever you choose, good luck.

      I used a cover version by Eddie Rabbit of The Wanderer in my initial upload. Usually I run into copyright issues using original artist's music so I like to use covers. The irony is, Dion's version works fine apart from not being playable on some devices but will play on a PC or laptop. The cover version by Eddie Rabbit is shite compared to Dion & The Belmonts and wont play. There wasn't any copyright issues for months and recently it was muted. UA-cam mentions that copyright status can change anytime. If there is a piece of music you are interested in using, check out its copyright status beforehand, this is a great help ua-cam.com/users/music_policies
      ATB for 2017 and thanks for the sub, Damian.

    • @GarethZoeWildcamps
      @GarethZoeWildcamps 7 років тому

      Fell Wanderer Thanks Damian for the reply, yes we do check the youtube link for music policies beforehand, unfortunately it doesn't tell you if it'll be restricted to certain devices until after its been uploaded (never has on any songs we've used at least). Someone moaned about not being able to view our vid on a mobile device and we had to explain that we make the video's for our pleasure and record 1st and foremost, so we use music we personally use. It's a hard for some to understand this unfortunately but most will view the vids on a desktop machine if they really enjoy the content. There is always the option to view youtubes desktop site on a mobile device in any event, getting round any restrictions from copyright. Happy new year, hope you have a great 2017 too, Gareth&Zoe Wildcamps.

    • @Fell_Wanderer
      @Fell_Wanderer  7 років тому

      I totally understand where you are coming from as the same has happened to me with complaints about not being able to watch. Some people aren't techie minded and whine at the uploader for not being able to view the content. There are ways for them to get around the restrictions and I've explained how to in the video description. I make videos for my own enjoyment first as I don't make money from it so it annoys me when people whine caus they didn't like a video because of a piece of music or they didn't like the people I went camping with as they drank too much beer, its actually laughable and sad how people behave on UA-cam. If I don't like a video or channel I just switch off or unsub. Anyway hope you have a great 2017, atb, Damian.

    Hey bro, was at the Scottish Deer Centre yesterday with the kids and we went on the Carnivore tour with the education ranger wifie. Part of the tour is about the Northern Lynx. A beautiful animal indeed. She told us that they are about to reintroduce them to the wild in the UK and the chosen destination is....Keilder Forest. Not sure if you were aware of it but I thought I'd let you know. They'll certainly add an extra bit of interesting noises etc to disturb yer Yeti hunting.

    Aye had the same problem at that water myself a while back. I had the 2* qualification and the insurance they asked for, but apparently there needs to be a certain number of craft on the water at the same time in order to assist in an emergency (muppets) so they can stick it. Best off heading west to Lake district or north into Scotland mate. Anyway rant over, class video cheers.

      I don't rate Kielder water at all because of the restrictions, the wife wanted to camp at the Leaplish caravan park so I had no choice lol.. my escape was wandering into the forest for a wildcamp alone and perhaps sneaking onto the water with the Kayak but the ranger made it clear to us no one was allowed on the reservoir without going through all the red tape and shite. Its a joke that place, I don't bother fishing there anymore because of the small fish sizes and hassle off the midgies. I love the Lake District and Scotland, and if more people had sense we should all head off north away from Northumbrain water and Kielder. ATB for 2017

      Its a Karrimor SF Sabre 35L backpack, very comfortable and lightweight. I can get an old model crusader cookset in one side pocket and my tarp/shelter in the other pocket. Its a adequate for overnight camping but a bit small for winter use when you need extra clothing.

      The campsite warden at one of the Kielder sites was a local lad who lives near me and told my wife, "If your husband wants to use the lake he will be disappointed". I was and won't go back.

    Ref: Your Rant-
    All you need to do, is get yourself a BCU 2 star certificate and along with that you get your £3000000 worth of public liability insurance.
    But to get that, you'd need to join a kayak/canoe club and join the BCU.

    • @Fell_Wanderer
      @Fell_Wanderer  7 років тому

      I won't be going back to Leaplish water park, Kielder. The Lake District is only 2 hours travel from my home and I don't need any certificates of competence or what ever they are called. Joining a kayak club is a good idea though. ATB

    • @MrStalch
      @MrStalch 7 років тому

      To be honest kayak/canoe clubs aren't really my thing but that's pretty much the only way you can get the certification.
      If you're thinking about coaching or instruction though, you could do a hell of a lot worse than get in touch with Kim Bull who's a 5 star coach in our area (Northumberland/Tyne & Wear) and a natural teacher. I did a couple of weekends with him back around (I think?) 2013 ish paddling hardshell Canadians and I've never looked back paddling wise.
      I currently paddle a Gumotex Palava 400 so maybe we could get a couple more pump hull paddlers and see if Kim could put a training program together for us? It'd cost of course but honestly, it's money invested rather than spent.
      I've done quite a bit of time paddling Ullswater since 2008, so you never know, we might bump into each other anyway!.
      Keep up the good work anyway.
      cheers
      Steve

    Forestry Commission are hell bent on destroying easy access to the forest without using pay and display fell wanderer, walked out to the bloody bush earlier this year and we parked at Lewis Burn car park, went back a few months later and got stopped by forestry commission bloke in his pick up truck, car park closed because of forestry work he said but added it`s not opening up to the public again and that there are plans to close other easy access car parks as well. he did say that walking in the forest is still ok but would have to use the pay and display in the future, it`s all about the money...

    • @Fell_Wanderer
      @Fell_Wanderer  6 років тому +1

      They are greedy money grabbers and thats putting it politely, Its a shame they are doing that, it will only make people go elsewhere rather than get ripped off. The last straw for me was when they wanted me to do a training course and receive a certificate of competence just to access the water with my kayak so won't camp there again at the recognised campsites. I'll still wild camp but will park on the small verges and layby's where its safe to do so but even then they will put no parking signs up which doesn't bother me as they won't clamp the car because they have to put specific signs saying clamping will be done before they can legally do it, which won't happen because the roads are still public highways unless you drive onto the forest tracks which are private

    • @alanmurphy8489
      @alanmurphy8489 6 років тому

      Tried to post a question on Kielder website asking why the car parks are being closed, any posts on the website have to go through an administrator, needless to say its not appeared and no email from admin explaining whats going on. Seems they have everything sewen up nice and tight with no way of questioning Forestry Commission online. Forgot to say, like the videos.

      Thanks for watching Moose, the thought of going in the reservoir had crossed my mind, but the family was stopping at a waters edge campsite and the ranger had mentioned to my wife I wasn't allowed on the water. I didn't want to risk being kicked off the site, if I'd been there alone and stealth camping, I would have gone kayaking anyway, ATB.
