Sold my custom van. Obviously I have experienced the painful ownership of this waste of money and time of a van. The list of problems with the transit custom is so long that you will have to look into it yourself. I won’t be owning another one any time soon. Out of 12 months the van will be in the garage for repairs at least 2 months of it. My van cost to own it for 12 months not including the loss in depreciation was £5.845.11 that is just repair costs. I wish everyone who is sold just by the look of a van the best of luck. Your gonna need it.
I think you’ll find they are pretty good. Where they suffer is they are the most common van, and therefore will suffer more abuse and mistreatment than any other van. Mine is faultless and well built. Drives lovely and is destined for conversion to a camper.
Nice drive & great MPG - I typically get 41-45 from my 290 125ps L2 H1 with normal driving but have recorded 49.1 covering nearly 850 miles on a single 80 litre tankful. The side door is a big disappointment as it can only take a euro pallet & not a UK standard, and I don't like the fact that Ford are selling it with 3 different power outputs all using the same engine - The customer is paying a hefty premium for a few lines of software being different.
I have two of these for my business. One of the transmissions just went out. I talked to my mechanic and he said the 4 to 5 thousand dollars I have to pay for it is very common with these vehicles.
Panther black limited ... already made a deal in local ford. 1st of september ... Hope its as Good as rated. Looks perfect. Well sure it is ugly if you bought shoe box VW last year!
I had one and it's terrible had to keep going back to the dealer due to engine lights coming on. Many design faults water runs onto parts of the engine causing electrical faults
This can can be open with pump pliers or £20 key purchased online without making noise. Content, or the whole vehicle can be stolen in minutes. Thanks to drivers door lock is made of cheese and absence of any means of protection to an obd port.
Does anyone know what the payload capacity is of the short wheelbase version? Is it 683kg ? Better yet, where can I find the empty weight? I see the gross weight on the door panel reads 2700kg, but why don't they publish the empty weight?
Are the new transits galvanised dipped ? I see the renault traffic is and my old one is 10 years old with no rust. Hopefully ford has made them so they dont get egg shell sills after 5 years.
Andrew Ireland you will until you see how easy it is for someone to break into, whithout causing any damage and turned off the alarm. I'd only buy one of they had aftermarket locks and alarm
Lovely. But it'll never make it to the States without a silly gasoline micro engine with a stupid turbo on it, and of course, we can't shift our own gears so we have to put an automatic transmission on it as well.
divisioneight, "if" the the M-B Metris (Viano/Vito in EU) makes a mark in the States there may be a rush to market midsize vans, like the FWD-based Transit Custom, the rumored (even built Stateside) T-6 VW Transporter and probably a 2nd generation (Colorado-based) GM Astro/Safari. And yes, the larger RWD Transit made it to the States with an EcoBoost (not so tiny at 3.5L V6 with a 360bhp output), a normally-aspirated 3.7L V6 and the top-line DuraTorq 3.2L I5, so a Transit Custom might need some gas/petrol engine outputted into the 200-250bhp range, maybe the 240hp (less for truck use) 2.0L I4 EcoBoost (Transit Connects here use the 1.6L version) and the final introduction of one of Ford's I4 DuraTorq (bet is on topline 152bhp 2.2L). And yes, Transits are equipped in States exclusively with automatic transmissions (in the Transit is a 6-speed conventional one, while the Transit Connect uses a 6-speed DCT), so it may apply to a "US-spec Transit Custom" as well...
Yep lol, my brother had his top of the range custom broken into, police said yeah it's really common. Sloppily built for profit, nothing else. Should be Ford's motto
@Razvan J who breaks into a van? ...umm, those that want to steal the contents of the said van, contents that are worth more than the van itself, maybe, like a Panigale V4R, or two - dunno
No ford we don't want a flully capable fuel efficiant van in the us keep making the 50 year old e 150. We love getting 10 mpg with poor handling terrible boat like ride and nothing modern interior.
Might be a silly question but why aren't Brit/Euro spec vans available in the US? Is there just not the market for them there because people think pickups are better? (Even though pickups suck.)
+HeFilmsTheClouds Well my friend, the Transit is being sold here in north America since the year model 2014 I believe, so far the most common van here is the Ford Econoline (E150, E250, E350) which are enormous in size, rear wheel drive, big ass engines - 8 cyl. 4.6L gas, 5.4L gas, 5.8 gas, 6.8 V10 gas and massive diesel versions with up to 7.3L turbo V8. not good on gas millage, and does not have a fancy interior, but tough and can haul a building. we also got here the GMC/Chevy Savana's which are basically the same idea. cheers from Canada.
Obviously auto express has never had to live with one of these vans. Constant faults with mine, stupid horn beep when doors aren’t shut properly waking up all the neighbours, only 33mpg. Driving my custom is like stepping back in time by 20 years.... gutless loud and poor mpg. The vivaro is so much better. Smoother engine, better built, more comfortable. It’s only a company van but it’s a pain in the arse to live with. Ford dealerships are a complete joke too. Their customer service and technicians are totally useless (Vauxhall weren’t much better). Oh well that’s my review.
Jack Jones because its ford they have copied features from the sprinter such as the rear door hinges and underseat storage, and really look at it , its hideous .

Great Britain Well my works Van had done 90000 hard miles and it hasn’t got a single fault so I don’t know what you are talking about.
TGK300 Xx 99% of them are junk. The aa man says they are awful. You are lucky you’ve had no faults.

Smart looking van, and very anonymous looking which makes it perfect for kidnapping, fly tipping/body disposal.
Dark 🪦
Best thing is the engine and running gear is the same as the MK7 Ford Transit
the only van that has a good interior and the only van which cares about safety... :)
6:45 “the transport custom” getting confused between transporter and transit 😂
glad i weren’t the only person who noticed 😂
Best so far, I am hiring one and needed to see if it will fit all of my stuff
Waiitt mat watson used to work for auto express as well?
Panther black limited ... already made a deal in local ford. 1st of september ... Hope its as Good as rated. Looks perfect. Well sure it is ugly if you bought shoe box VW last year!
New Ford Transit looks amazing
It’s base model outside yet the interior has many options. Dab radio. Leather wheel and gearknob and satnav
These are good reviews man 👌
6:45 'Transport Custom'. Ha!
I had one and it's terrible had to keep going back to the dealer due to engine lights coming on. Many design faults water runs onto parts of the engine causing electrical faults
west midland mexican Well my work van has done 90000 very hard and aggressive miles and we having had a single issue.
This can can be open with pump pliers or £20 key purchased online without making noise. Content, or the whole vehicle can be stolen in minutes. Thanks to drivers door lock is made of cheese and absence of any means of protection to an obd port.
I do not think we can get the manual transmission in United States.
The foreman bought a new one, its been spending more time back at the dealers than on the road, perhaps its just a doggy one.

The best van in the world
Can the short wheelbase version as shown here carry 3m length pipes or is the long wheelbase version required for that?
It’s go flaps at the back so the 3m lengths end up sitting under passenger seat, 9 years too late with the reply maybe 😂
Best for picking up kids
Complete circle on a roundabout "confused that driver" yes cuz you did not use a turn signal white van driver or Auto Express professional?
Gotta agree. I drive a van for the NHS and if you did that to me you would have got a mouthful. There's being 'in the right' and 'being a twat'
I'm sure he used his turn signal, you can hear it and you can see it
Are the new transits galvanised dipped ?
I see the renault traffic is and my old one is 10 years old with no rust. Hopefully ford has made them so they dont get egg shell sills after 5 years.
+NORTHEASTRESTORATION - Unfortunately not.
Not once did Matt mention air-conditioning
is this one for sale too for me to test drive your test transit custom please.
Can get ply installed by ford dealer. Usually for free
interior is impressive for a van
That is a nice van
we don't have that one here in USA , I hate that! the one here is transit connect and is smaller,
nice van
Do more reviews !!!!
WELL DONE FORD I BOUGHT CUSTOM SPORT VAN SEPTEMBER 2014 AND I THINK IT IS A BRILLIANT VAN
Andrew Ireland you will until you see how easy it is for someone to break into, whithout causing any damage and turned off the alarm. I'd only buy one of they had aftermarket locks and alarm
ram promaster1500 toit eleve
how does the hill start control work ???
I think it uses the ABS brake control to prevent backwards rolling of the wheels when on a slope.
its a shame these new transit customs are made in turkey, the body work is cheap and not as strong as the older transits
true im a transit fan this Turkish rubbish is dismal im staying with me mk6
It’s not due to the fact it’s made in turkey. It’s ford wanting to reduce costs. Would be the same if they were still being made in England.
All the old transits rust out.
İ am from Turkey what is the problem
6:47 You said Transport Custom, I think you mean Transit Custom
how much months do you need on cars where do you get them from me
it's supposed to be a question mark ok maths that supposed to be met by the way maths that doesn't matter flats Sam
Is he mat Watson

Why do they stall so easy though? >.
I have one of these 100bhp brand new and holy Jesus ye couldn't keep fuel in the poxy thing
Lovely. But it'll never make it to the States without a silly gasoline micro engine with a stupid turbo on it, and of course, we can't shift our own gears so we have to put an automatic transmission on it as well.

Matt your arms are huge or is it just your shirt? :P xD
Well, Rebecca is 5 feet 4 AND A HALF
Am I the only person that finds the ford transit custom 290 trend very uncomfortable to drive
getting expensive and complicated to service
Kevin mindyourown and very easy to break into
Will Taylor nothing new there then
Yep lol, my brother had his top of the range custom broken into, police said yeah it's really common. Sloppily built for profit, nothing else. Should be Ford's motto
@Razvan J junkies would to get there fix cause there living off the government and tax payers money
@Razvan J who breaks into a van? ...umm, those that want to steal the contents of the said van, contents that are worth more than the van itself, maybe, like a Panigale V4R, or two - dunno
Rust bucket
Ford Transit Connect please
LDN- 97 you can keep it, all Ford's are rubbish and very easy to break into
Completely annoying naming system. Calling three completely different vehicle "Transit" causes endless confusion when searching.
Shite Transits good review though
Doesn't look as good as the competition, the old Transit's diesels sounded like a tractor 🚜
Transport Custom? WTF?
What puts me off is that there is only one side door,it should have two.
The driver's side sliding door is an option.
would these wheels fit a 2004 transit anyone???
Yh they fit a mk7 so should fit an 04 mk6
You have to used the wheel nuts of a custom though
Older one looked better and there not even that reliable apparently. I'd buy anything else but this.
Well, you must be objective :D
No ford we don't want a flully capable fuel efficiant van in the us keep making the 50 year old e 150. We love getting 10 mpg with poor handling terrible boat like ride and nothing modern interior.

+HeFilmsTheClouds By the way pickups are awesome, but they got a different purpose than a van.
Renplasmn chen dstrbsyon
Yep pretty feminine I would say

Rubish my experience
The worst van in the world !
Why ? Lol
Jack Jones because its ford they have copied features from the sprinter such as the rear door hinges and underseat storage, and really look at it , its hideous .
keiron gordon yep very easy to break into, don't know why any body buys transits
the worst man in the world is a Vauxhall Vivaro that is rubbish
Sam Simmons try a vito. They are piss poor
RUST
Rubish transit
It's UGLY
Panther black limited ... already made a deal in local ford. 1st of september ... Hope its as Good as rated. Looks perfect. Well sure it is ugly if you bought shoe box VW last year!
