I made this jeweler's saw because for many projects I needed to cut steel in complex shapes and had no way to do it except outsourcing it to a CNC.
This saw can cut used table saw blades, my material of choice when making knives and other small tools. Which is more than enough for me. The fact that it does it quietly and that it's such a small simple tool is a bonus in my tiny home workshop.
Thanks for not filling the silence with unnecessary music or chatter. Well done.
Wow, the care you had with the details go way beyond what was needed for that to simply work... it became a piece of art!
It’s cool
That's amazing!
You know, every time I visit your channel, I feel the need to go back and watch your older videos. Can't say that about a lot of channels.
LOL, maybe it's because I don't have enough fresh content? :)
The Small Workshop haha, well, that's a way to put it.
Your quality has definitely improved, I'm suggesting this channel to some friends. :)
Wow! Must be a pleasure to work with a selfmade saw like that. Looks not only wonderful but also rock solid. Most definitely one of the best UA-cam vids I've ever watched. Thank you!
Using a drill chuck to hold the taps: pure genius! Thanks a lot for the tip, and big props for that saw!
What a great job. That saw looks SOLID. Looks way better than some of the junk you get at the store! Nice craftsmanship.
Thank you! I was afraid that it will be to heavy when done, but it feels ok while cutting and is very rigid.
excellent video. zero talk . complete sense. just admire the way you did it
Maybe one of the nicest handmade coping saws I've ever seen. Functional work of art. Great job!
Thank you very much!
I realize this is an older video but I hope you're still seeing new comments that are added. I find this project to be 100% top-shelf. You did an outstanding job of making that saw and I only hope I can copy it and end up with one that is close to being as good. Very well done indeed!
Thank you! :)
Incredible skill and patience. Love the level of detail you put into every piece. 👌
As a jeweler I was very curious about this video. I’m glad I watched. Excellent craftsmanship and a job well done!
You sir are an craftsman. But most of all, an artist. Well done.
your craftsmanship is spectacular. I wish I had the patience to make tools this beautifully
Thanks! Patience I have, true, but the craftsmanship still needs a lot working on :)
your videos make me feel warm and cozy, like sitting by the fire on a cold winter night or something cliche
That is beautiful. Compared to the commercially mass produced saw that I have in my workshop, that is a work of art. You have inspired me to try and make one of my own.
Thank you!
I wish every video on UA-cam was as well put together as this one. Beautiful saw as well..excellent
Thank you mate, you made my morning!
Needless to say that your job is amazing !
Greetings from Argentina
Mesmerizing! An absolute pleasure to watch a skilled craftsman!
Beautiful. Love the background sounds. No goofy music!
Beautifully made
Thanks!
What type of saw blade it is? I did my first gold ring without saw but this saw looks really good.
The Small Workshop ŕŕŕŕ 3
BEAUTIFUL!
I'm always proud of folks who came go from concept to design to production. Thanks
Thank you!
Damn! Wish i had it. It turned out amazing! If this isn't a pro's tool, i don't know what is.
This video deserves too much likes. It’s so satisfying that I can’t explain. You are a artist. This tool is amazing. I would like to do it, but unfortunately I haven’t your tools and pieces 🤷🏻♂️😢
One of the great joys of life is making things. It is a shame that the basic skill are no longer taught in most schools.
Well, hand making things is pretty useless in the modern society, that's why they ditched it in schools. Take this saw for example, you could probably buy a better one for like ten bucks. And it took me a few hours every evening for almost a week to make it. So economically it makes no sense to make things ourselves. Like you said, it's just joy.
Creating not just a tool but Art. Awesome
Not just a useful video but nicely made and paced too.
"Wow "it comes out really very well.
I really like the final saw, the handle is awesome and all the system is pretty smart.
Thank you! The system is based on classic jeweler's saws design, just adapted to what I had around the shop.
+The Small Workshop this is the smartest part :p
Nicely done! This wil go into my handtool to-do list. Thanks for sharing.
Excellent work! Both impressed with the workmanship, and the video does a great job of explaining all the steps for those who may want to try to do the same. Thanks!
Also, any chance you could post a link to where one might buy the blades? I'm having trouble finding the exact Proxxon blade. And thanks again!
Por lejos, estos son el tipo de videos que mas me gustan. Te enseñan a hacer tus propias herramientas con materiales faciles de encontrar y utilizan herramientas comunes. Te felicito
Impressively professional in my opinion
Wow! Really nice. Isn't it amazing how much work goes into something that looks so simple? Just subscribed!
Thank you very much Paul!
That is one beautiful little saw right there! Nicely done!
I've always wanted a jeweler's saw and you've inspired me to make one!
I only had this one for a few days now, but I find it very useful. The possibilities it offers are endless when it comes to shape sheet metal. I say go for it, it's a nice, simple project. Also they are quite cheap to buy if you don't want to go though all the trouble.
Man... That was awesome! I enjoy watching videos where people make something from scratch but this one is really special. Bravo man!
A fine quality job. I bought an antique one for my shed from a seller that specialises in antique tools. Cost me the same as a new one from China but much better quality.
That's the best case scenario, old tools are awesome and the fact that you just paid a China price for it is a great deal. I try to do that whenever possible, watching local craiglist and flea markets, but never saw an old jeweler's saw available, just new ones and those only of the low end kind.
you made a great saw to last a lifetime. great job
Thank you!
Very well designed & perfectly made.
That's awesome! That saw is truly a thing of beauty.
Thank you very much!
I'm impressed! That came out really nice. I especially like that so much of it is hand-cut with simple tools.
What a marvellous tool you created! I absolutely love it!!!
If only I had the energy to do something like that, too...
You have to put a spring after the bridge
nice to see quality work in a functional piece I think there's nothing more satisfying then making something for yourself specially a tool good job!!
Thank you! I probably love tools more than the things you can make with them... unless they are other tools!
That is awesome, turned out really nice. If I didn't already have 2 including a lovely antique saw then I would be making one.
Thanks! Would love to have and antique one, I searched for a while without success before I decided to make this one.
+The Small Workshop I was lucky to find one at a car boot. It has suffered a little damage but it still works great. When I went to the V&A recently I saw an almost identical saw (mine is a just a little deeper in the throat) in their jewellery exhibit, it was dated to the mid 19th century.
Everything is great. A question What is the most important tool in the vid is??? The vice!
The vice is always the most important tool!
Willian Dissenha I feel like that's true because you can do everything else by hand (with difficulty) but a vice helps hold things in place and that is sometimes the hardest thing to do
The hands.
The brain, then the eyes then hands, then a vice
The camera!
Wow. Really love your videos! I read your response about making time for the workshop. I hope you'll get more soon because these videos are just fantastic. Great work, man!
Thank you very much! As the channel grows I hope I'll be able to post content more often. At the moment I'm around one video a month and I'm trying to push it to a video every two weeks, see if I can manage that.
Excellent job SIR ,you have very good talent as well as technical brain
Love the precision and design that you put into that beautifully made tool.
Been watching your videos for quite a while now and i gotta say you deserve at least 2 mill subscriptions.
I didn't know you can bend aluminium to that extend without it breaking into two :)
Thank you very much for your exaggerated comment! :D
The bar I bent is made of steel, just the bridge is part aluminum part wood.
The Small Workshop Lol. thanks for the info and i wasn't exaggerating, love your videos.
Really a very beautiful saw. That one goes on my bucket list of shop projects for someday.
Now that's nice Nothing better than hand made !
Amazing work. If you drilled and tapped hole 90° on the set screws for the blade you could turn the blade too
Amazing. I have never seen something like this. You have opened my mind thanks so much
Absolutely beautiful. I really loved the type of wood you used for the handle too.
Хорошая работа! Очень нужный и эстетически красивый инструмент получился.
Жаль что самому пилки не сделать....а то можно было бы перейти на автономное существование вообще))
Beautiful tool you’ve made.
I love the details of the adjustability, and I really like your solutions.
I have only ever found that adjustable height to be a liability tho, and prefer a fixed saw. They make them adjustable to be able to use broken blades, but blades are inexpensive, and by the time they break I’m not sure there teeth’s are still all in.
I’ve also had saws that use a round bore to capture the blades, but always was frustrated with smaller blades slipping. But that could well be operator error. Never heard anybody else complain about that.
Regardless my particularities around a saw, you’ve made a dandy one.
Nm. Just watched to the end. I see it’s your tension adjuster.
Beautiful work. Always impressed by what you can accomplish in a broom closet with some ingenuity.
Thank you very much!
Brother had you had it in you to buy the extra material and make about 50 to 100 while filming, you would have sold every last one of those!!! These are $10 to $45 depending on the brand, but yours would bring $75-$100 if it works superb. Removing the wing nuts and overall craftsmanship is a plus for me. Great work on the saw.
Excellent workmanship.
You could make a hole with a neodymium in the handle to enclose hex toll. Very nice job!
really nice finish, i was impressed with the handle!
Thank you! Turning is still my favorite part of woodworking, so I try to include it whenever possible.
Excellent work, turned out really nice.
Thank you!
That is incredible. If i hadnt a fretsaw and a coping saw already, i would try this too. The only thing i worry about is the strength of the thread in the aluminum plate near the handle. Nice work!
Thanks! Well the aluminum bridge is the weak spot of the saw and if it starts failing in time I'll probably replace it with brass, or even steel. That's why I did not epoxy the handle piece to the bridge. And I'll probably use this saw to make that new bridge. But right now it feels pretty solid and the forces involved while cutting are mainly in the handle, since it cuts on the down stroke and also you are not supposed to put pressure on it or you'll snap the blade.
That looks fantastic. Well done.
I feel like making your own tools, even if it's just a few simple little ones is a right of passage for any maker
Wow, that is a beautifully made tool
Thank you!
Nice design, masterfully made!
Thank you!
What a beautiful tool, good job! It was very cool to watch!!!
Thank you! Happy to hear you liked watching it, cause that's the part I'm not experienced in: filming and editing.
That is a great jewelers saw. You did a great work. Thank you👍👍.
Hello, I am so amazing with your proyect, thank you so much por this great idea, greetings from Bogota-Colombia
Amazing, are the plans still available?
always use a vise when drilling large pieces of wood to avoid broken shop windows
Extremely professional made!!
well done my friend!the saw is not made for jewels...cause IT IS A JEWEL!well done again!
That is a gorgeous tool.
Thank you!
man you do some great work! I think its awsome! You make this tool, so you can make this project 10x easyer and better. so then you use the previous tool to make a nother tool to improve even more! DAMN fine work for just hand tools!
VERY professional job! So cool looking too!
Thank you!
I love finding these little gems!
Thanks!
Nicely made piece of work
Very nicely made, skilled individual
beautiful work. I'm a jeweler and use one of these every day. Just curious to know what kind of epoxy you use that actually sticks to aluminum under stress?
It's a five minute epoxy from Bizon. Pretty good quality stuff but it's role here is more to keep things aligned while drilling for the screws. And maybe add some rigidity to the bridge, but screws do most of the work. But I've used the same kind of epoxy to glue rubber to an aluminum roller on a belt sander and it hold under heavy load for more than a year, until the sander itself broken, but the rubber is still on the roller.
Schweeet! GREAT build! Thumbs Up. I have to say, that Your videos are extremely Inspirational. Looking forward to many more in the future. Have A Super Week!..... Gus
Really a professional work.Well done!!
Beautiful work and very detailed video. I really liked it. Thanks.
Thank you Dave!
little tip for tensioning the blade. its much easier to leave the spine tight and then place the top part of the saw (w/o the handle) against the edge of your bench and push with your stomach against the handle. you can then get the blade tighter with a lot more consistency than by hand.
Thanks for the tip, I've seen some youtube jewelers doing it, but my frame is a bit too rigid for that kind of tensioning.
Very nice workmanship!
Thank you!
A beautiful piece of work which I hope becomes a family heirloom.
Superb skill and it has shown me that the in which you have made the jewler's saw is fantastic. I am really moved with the skill you have displayed in wood working and metal working in this project . I could not get the article and the sketch through the site which you have mentioned at the bottom; when clicked the screen says it has been moved. Will you please enable to get the full article with sketch. Thanks and Regards.
Type of the wire plzzz ???
