This song is at times too good. I had a coworker who loves Zimmer scores and he used to use them to spice up presentations. I physically stopped him from using Roll Tide. "Jesus, Doug. It's a budget report, we're not attacking Russia."
This "Roll Tide" music from Crimson Tide always give me chills listening to it and it made me remember how great Denzel Washington and Gene Hackman were in that movie.
This is arguably the greatest single piece Hans ever wrote. It has everything: strings, brass, choir, percussion, synths...even a trumpet solo to start things off. Multiple catchy melodies. And POWER.
Rome It is a theme of Rome, that's the only thing I hear when listening. 1:40 Nothing in music has ever proclaimed the power and glory of the Roman civilization more profoundly to me than this part.
The rendering of the Navy Hymn from 6:05 onwards is the single most powerful performance of this great hymn I've ever heard. I wish my father could have heard it.
"In my humble opinion, in a nuclear world, the true enemy is war itself." It's not that war is the enemy of war. It's the enemy of everyone. Us, them, humans... everyone would lose in a nuclear war, even those not in it.
People are sleeping on Zimmer's earlier movies - my perception is that this score founded a crucial style for Zimmer later unearthed for Gladiator and PotC.
Interesting remark. How would we describe that? an orchestral score with multiple (character) voices, against a generic background that is nature/the ocean/ war/ etc?
@@PatriotOnly Actually, it's a Church of England hymn called "Eternal Father, Strong to Save", that was originally written for general seafarers like fishermen, when such an occupation was extremely hazardous. It was later adopted by both the Royal Navy and the USN. Since then it's been adapted/corrupted by multiple services, even those who have absolutely nothing to do with water whatsoever.
Dieses Lied hörte ich im Dezember 1999 als ich nach 4-jähriger Dienstzeit zum letzten Mal aus der General von Steuben Kaserne in Hemau raus fuhr. Volle Pulle!
The section that starts at 2:04 popped into my head about a month ago - the best section of any action score from that era IMHO, and I couldn't for the life of me remember which movie it was from....then I remembered it was used in the Hoodlum trailer, then Shazam, and now I'm here. The irony is that I actually scanned through this song looking for that section when I was on my quest a month back, missed it, and my take away was that Navy Hymn rendition at the end is probably one of the more powerful compositions and recordings of that song anywhere. Anyways, Hans Zimmer is the GOAT
Ramsey: Give me the missle key Punch Give me the missle key Mr. hunter! Hunter: Puts the key around his neck Punch I'm the commander of this fucking ship, Give me the god damn key!
I would have enlIsted in the NAV' had I then heard the Crimson Tide Soundtrack back in 1972 when I was at The O. C. California USN recruiting office considering to go to Sea 4 Old Glory. But alas I had I felt too good of a job as a furniture warehouseman back in 1972 . Just graduated from B. O. High School. Who knows where I would have been today had I'd served my country with distinction. I m dreaming an Officer & a Gentleman Retired. Fantasy ! It works 4 Me!
+Sebastian Lister Except it's mostly synthetical like all of Zimmer work. In my memory, it's first (and only) score composed (mostly) for an orchestra is Gladiator. For the rest, it's 90% synthetical.
This astonishing instrumental masterpiece made by Hans Zimmer always makes imagine how EPIC and POWERFUL would be a film based on Disney Parks interactive game "Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom" that would feature characters from Disney, Pixar, Marvel Cinematic Universe, 20th Century Studios, James Cameron's Avatar, Blue Sky Studios, etc.
Wow, so many Trump supporters in the comment section, so vial and politically incorrect. Honestly guys, I just can't even right now.... Can't even stop myself from saluting in vehement happiness to you and to this indescribably epic song!! You GLORIOUS AND BEAUTIFUL MOTHERFUCKERS, KEEP IT UP!
I know this from the end of a Coldplay song my brother ripped from some video on here... I thought it was a really awesome ending to the song... nope... probably somebody's outro... 😂
trump made many speeches in Alabama and finished off his thank you tour in in this great state. the term roll tide is is the rallying cry for the Alabama Crimson Tide athletic teams.
"The four most powerful men in the world: the President of the United States of America; the President of the Russian Republic; the Captain of a United States nuclear missile submarine; and me"
I guess it's Hans Zimmer but doesn't this soundtrack sound like something from the Lion King? Also funny is that both Lion King & Crimson Tide are Disney films.

Cool story my man. But please don't take Jesus' name in vain. Peace.

Christ. An absolutely epic score for a highly underrated film.
This "Roll Tide" music from Crimson Tide always give me chills listening to it and it made me remember how great Denzel Washington and Gene Hackman were in that movie.
2020 and still one of my favorite workout joints. Hans Zimmer is The GOAT of epic movie music.
This is arguably the greatest single piece Hans ever wrote. It has everything: strings, brass, choir, percussion, synths...even a trumpet solo to start things off. Multiple catchy melodies. And POWER.
Agreed. But a couple of joints from Dark Knight and Superman are tight on it's heels!
Choir in the beginning reminds me a bit of The Good the Bad and the Ugly theme idk why.
Idk man you ever heard the Modern Warfare 2 soundtrack. Assaulting the Gulag?! It’s pretty amazing
Agreed
Rome
It is a theme of Rome, that's the only thing I hear when listening.
1:40 Nothing in music has ever proclaimed the power and glory of the Roman civilization more profoundly to me than this part.
To the memory of Tony Scott RIP. His death was very sad and Crimson Tide still remains today (2019) one of my favorite movie.
The rendering of the Navy Hymn from 6:05 onwards is the single most powerful performance of this great hymn I've ever heard. I wish my father could have heard it.
Hackman is 91, one of greatest actors ever
The good ones are leaving folks
"The true enemy of war, in a nuclear world, is war itself."
This music is best to play when you are playing Cold Waters.
And Captain Ramsey I’m sure didn’t like it when Hunter said that.
"In my humble opinion, in a nuclear world, the true enemy is war itself."
It's not that war is the enemy of war. It's the enemy of everyone. Us, them, humans... everyone would lose in a nuclear war, even those not in it.

When you look up synonyms for Hans Zimmer in the dictionary, the first word that comes up is EPIC!
Now, THAT is epic
The fact that Zimmer had included Eternal Father into the piece makes me love his work so much more.
What's eternal father

Just listened for the thousandth time ... Yep, still awe inspiring and badass
Everybody talks about how amazing his scores for Dark Knight, Inception or Dunkirk are, but come on, you can’t top this!
Or The Rock!

Nothing tops crimson tide.
Hans Zimmer cannot go wrong with his scores. He's one of the goats to me
A better military theme has yet to be made...
And now, the Hans Zimmer School of Composition: "Percussion and Horns, n00b!"
So basic, yet so perfect and awesome.
Sometimes, we can find perfection on simple things ;)

Epic movie! Amazing scenario & director's work. Gene H. & Denzel W. are really incredible! Toni Scott was really amazing director. RIP, T.S.!
Listening to this while playing world of warships, goosebumps overload.
yes! :)
Zimmer's finest moment....never fails to inspire! "Navy Hymn" is the keynote of St. Michael the Archangel, yeah I said it.

How? I'm a Nightwish fan and Nightwish never brought me here ;_;
They used this as an intro song in their concerts. The 1:00 - 3:00 part if I remember correctly.
Hans Zimmer ....Master
...and a bow before Hans Zimmer, of course - the best movie composer and one of my favorites! Amazing film-music!
Retired military here. Really good.
This is one of Denzel Washington's and Gene Hackman's greatest movies . More so for Denzel, he was fantastic in this film.

Sounds a lot like Pirates of the Caribbean haha. Not surprised though, Zimmer likes to rework some of his older tunes/ rhythms for later soundtracks.
