Man, imagine putting all that work into getting the shell clean and then YOU STILL HAVE TO RETRO BRIGHT IT lol. Thats some serious labor of love there.
@@PunkNDisorderlyGamer They're all great, man! I'm pretty new to retro electronics repair but I just picked up a busted SNES off e-bay for like 30 bucks and fixed it up, so I've been looking into how to replace the caps and maybe even add some mods to it. I just don't quite trust my soldering skills THAT much yet so I've been trying to watch as much as I can to learn and your videos are extremely helpful. Something really special about getting that console running and refurbishing busted stuff has always been a hobby of mine, anyhow. (plus it was a lot cheaper than the $200 the local game shop wanted and I gotta save money where I can lmao)
Getting all this paint off was no easy task, great job! Don't think I've ever tried to retrobright a shell which was this yellow but at least now I know it is possible to make it better :)
I got a stash of them pink basins, stole em for work and they work great for stuff like this. I always love cleaning vidoes, so satisfying. Though, I think consoles like this are a prime candidate for custum paint jobs or even them shell replacements they sell now
I just finished binging all your SNES repair videos, and it's gotten to the point where I see any faulty SNES and think "Oh that's probably a bad PPU1" or "Wow that's definitely bad caps" and I don't even own a Super Nintendo yet. At least when I do I'll be very much over prepared

@@PunkNDisorderlyGamer I don't know, but it does a really good job at removing sharpie marker. But be careful, it's so good that it will dissolve ANY ink. So try not to hit any labels with it.

Awesome video my friend, I know it is a lot of hard work, but it is very satisfying to watch the final result. Greetings from Buenos Aires, Argentina. Keep up the good work!
This was an awesome video. I really enjoyed it, you really improved that console and I would say saved it from the junkyard. Good job. I know it's too late now but in the future for badly colored consoles you may consider letting them soak in a mild alcohol mix overnight.
It is a repro. I got it a few years ago from a shop on Etsy, I think the vendor has stopped selling repros. You can also get them from www.OCDreproductions.com
What a fantastic video. This gave me a few ideas for the one I just acquired. It needs some serious cleaning and a one chip mod added. I’m excited to get started!
its been too long man i missed your vids! amazing stuff. When stripping paint i use methylated Spirits, takes a little while but doesn't damage the plastic at all.
Maybe try Krud Kutter for things like this in the future. I haven't tried it on situations like this myself, but it does work quite well for deep-set tobacco stains.
Second round of peroxide tank +UV and some magic sponge would solve the last bit of issues. I see some people also try some red light to get other hues to respond to the light.
Im feeling your pain of cleaning this stuff from it (Very nice result). BTW: Do you have tryed out in the past just bleaching the unit only with sunlight for 2 days? IT is a old method which is also known for LEGO bricks are yellowed. Maybe it is a good idea for future videos to share this method. Another question: Do you think Retrobright or bleaching in general makes the plastic porose?
Thanks, I never tried bleaching with sun perhaps I can try if I get a cracked unusable shell as a throw away attempt, just in case the sun light damages the plastic like a patio chair. Idk if retrobriting or bleaching causes the plastic to be anymore brittle than it all ready is.
PunkNDisorderlyGamer I have done 4 snes consoles with peroxide bath and 8 hrs of sun. Works flawless and not cracking. Btw it’s 95 degrees and sunny where I live.
You done a good job you really have it’s paid off but next time just stick the plastic parts in hot water and leave it to soak a bunch of times it’s easier I think
