That is a No4 plane, often called a scrub plane. Non-Stanley planes are often much cheaper, even though most are a faithful copy of the Stanley Bailey plane. The test is to look at the shaving- it should be even across the width, and thin enough to almost see through. You may wish to go finer than 800 grit- personally I finish at 16000. Amazing the difference it makes.
