Superb! After the success of his first three albums, he did not get stuck in the pattern of rock n' roll, latin grove but had the guts to embrace other styles and genres resulting in excellent Caravanserai. He is as much at ease with Blues or Jazz or Indian or African music and that is the reason for his longevity.
Nice pick, I think Santana’s music resonates more with people during the summer days, he has that very lush, positive and tropical sound that almost no one has or can recreate. If I had to pick one it’d be Mark Knopfler, but that’s probably for a big part due to a culture difference because I’m Dutch. But still, Santana is great and I hope I can see him live when it’s possible.
Thinned sounding guitar simulators is not what this man does. Players that can play don't need gimmicks. 2:00 into this video he goes back to what's worked for his lifetime.
@@josevillarreal9920 Moonflower era was something else... Wish I could have lived to see it.. hell, I can't even see them now last time they were here was 2016, I'm 16 so yea. Wish they would come to Europe, maybe for the 60th anniversary
In another video somewhere, Santana explained he wrote The Healer as background (?) music for the movie La Bamba, where the main character visits a healer. John Lee Hooker wrote the lyrics in 1989, because Hooker (or the producers of the album) asked him to cooperate with several other artists (Like Bonnie Riatt). I also remember reading the booklet of the CD where they wrote that particular album track was done in one single take with the Santana band and Hooker on vocals. Magic. It remains probably my fav song of all times.
@@Cabbolet Thanks for the information. This was one of the first full songs I learned on guitar, of course no internet then, I almost wore the stylus out until I learned it by ear. After years of not playing , lockdown has given me the time and chance to buy a guitar and play this again :-)
@@peterandrewcaudwell6619 Nice !! Enjoy the playing :) Have a listen to Santana's Aqua Marina, you may enjoy it as well. And if you dig John Lee Hooker, be sure to listen to the live album "Live at cafe Au Gogo / Soledad prison". I love fusion of style (done right) and collaborations of great musicians, like this epic song here....
It seems to be in the wrong tempo, without the singer (John Lee Hooker) and with the wrong guitar. And all of the musicians seem to have lost the form of the song. Sounds good anyway.
I guess I'll be the party pooper here. I've been a HUGE fan of Santana since my parents gave me my first Santana album ( Moonflower ) for Christmas 46 years ago. I love Santana music so much that I finally decided to learn how to play guitar at the age of 50 and started my own Santana tribute band 5 years ago. I worked my ass off in order to be able to play all the epic solo's and sound as close as possible to Carlos. But this song The Healer I've always found horrible and so disappointing. Yeah yeah yeah I know Carlos started off as a Blues guitarist and initially had aspirations to be a blues band. And how he adores all the Blues legends and most likely felt honoured to record this song with John Lee Hooker. Good for him and of course he can do whatever he wants....but I can't help simply finding this song horrible and a major bummer. Granted at least in this video you dont hear the awful mumbling lyrics " sang " by John Lee Hooker, which makes it a tad less annoying to me. Ive seen Carlos jam with Blues bands and always think, dude you should stay away form that because it sounds awfuf. Just like i"ve heard a lot of Blues guitarists rape Santana songs. Clapton sounds just as awful playing Santana as Carlos does playing Clapton. But both are genius in their own territory. Just my humble opinion.

Beautiful, HAUNTING, i love it. Viva Santana.
One of the most beautiful musical-pieces I have ever heard. Just simply magical, I feel like I have died and went to Heaven or something.
Love the bass
Me encanta por que Santana dirige la música y todos le van respondiendo de buena manera.
First time hearing this version, nice. Very nice.
@Paul Blakey, look at 26-11-1989, Watsonville High School concert, The Healer, even better than this version, enjoy
The best guitarist ever

I remember this from the 1989 John Lee Hooker album. Were the lyrics added later? I always presumed that the song was written for that album.
