Depending on price having some of those chemical ones helps for a quick bit of heat. I thought they stopped making them thanks for the video I wanted a few hand wormers.
Those chemical pads are not bad. They work beautifully when instant warm is required. The main reason I prefer old school warmers is the longevity. I often find myself doing wood cutting, throwing up a tent, tying knots etc. different fine tasks that require taking off my mittens. Often they don't happen within 45 min. or so. I love a warmer that lasts a long time. Thanks for the comment!
actually zippo is not the best fluid for the pocket warmer (maybe it's the best for the lighter) imco and zorro (the golden bottle not the black bottle) do a better job in the pocket warmer
Hello! Pop, I bought a similar model to these, brand name Whitby, made in Taiwan. It was a little difficult to light at first, but once lit it ran for 12 hours. I filled it again the following night and it ran for 24 hours. Although the metal casing is too hot to hold when it is running, the effective heat drops considerably, once it is inserted into the little pouch that comes with it. Once in the pouch it feels like holding a warm mug of coffee in the hand, no warmer, in my opinion. Tomorrow I will try to leave it for a few minutes before putting it in the pouch, to see if that makes any appreciable difference. I enjoy your videos, good health and God bless. Steven
Very useful review, thank you! :D Would like to know what size of Peacock is it, perhaps the medium? Also, did you try it like, dunno, in your pocket or so? Does it produce fumes? or smell ? I see you did your test with the warmer on a bench, so perhaps inside a jacket's pocket or trousers would be warmer? thank you :D
It was a medium size Peacock. They, of course, give off fumes while burning, but they really don't smell. Oh, yes, inside a jacket's pocket (insulation) they would have been warmer.
Helsinkipop Thanks for that info. My dad had a couple from at least back in the '50s that were among the tools, etc., when I was a kid, but never tried them out. I know there are solid fuel versions out there, too. Fuel is a rectangular "stick."
depends on situation and oil you use, but full-loading can be messy and it's not a water can you really don't want...some fuel leak issue really. sometimes it leak, sometimes it doesnt. zippo, peacock, other copied ones.. I know that zippo oil is not 'that' dangerous but safety first. if you want long-lasting one, there is a peacock giant one(larger, so can hold more fuel), don't know zippo also had the larger model but buy that and don't overload the fuel. but the best way to do it from my point of view when I need to use that in long time, I don't fuel up at full capacity and just carry additional oil and fuel it up time to time. sergeant taught me.
the zippo I have has a burner more like the peacock. I have found the catalytic element needs to be dry & does not hurt for it to be warm. The naptha will flash off if you leave it unlit & filled for any length of time, like a zippo lighter. Once I figured out its bad to have the element flooded & try to light it I prefer to light it with a propane torch with the flame set very low. After doing that, I graduated to lighting it with a windproof lighter. The main thing is not to flood the element. Makes me wonder why they took the Coleman catalytic tent heaters off the market. My guess is out of court settlements between lawyers of stupid ppl. & Coleman.
I hear that zippo recently changed there element and that you need to replace them much more often (I looked on Amazon reviews and replacement part in Amazon) did peacock brand also go to a filament that burns out quicker so you are required to buy more...more often?
Just heard a BBC interview with your finance minister today .. good hard-headed guy ! He should replay news reels of the "Winter War" to remind Finns how tough they can be..
Helsinkipop Hey finny friend .. easy on that "descent" stuff I too am of swedish stock and NOTHING DESCENDING about me !! It's like KONE.. up or down (your choice) (pssst.. I was asking "Heurlin" if he was a swede)
Zippo lighters have been around since 1932. During World War II, the company stopped production for civilians and devoted the product solely to US soldiers. In 2002, they produced their 500,000,000 lighter. Zippo makes their lighters in Pennsylvania and near Niagara Falls. I don't know why the handwarmer would be made in China, unless its perhaps a knockoff and not a real Zippo. This is entirely possible. Ill certainly check into that and see what the story is. I would shudder to think Zippo went Chinese, as it is an American icon.
An American icon, that's true. The text on the packaging reminded of that American heritage, and then continued "manufactured to Zippo quality standards in China". I guess an American working man is too expensive...
Peacock from Hakkin, invented those heater in 1922 in japan. zippo is actually a fake copy of a Kawasaki hand warmer made in 1980.

Peacock is the leader!
Thank you for your excellent review.
Best wishes…
Use the heaters to warm feet and body while camping in winter! You can cope with a lot lower temps!
I'm sorry but I burst out laughing when you grabbed the burner. I've been using these since I was a child and knew what was going to happen.
I have some of the chemical heater pads they sell buy another name here in the states but they work pretty well for a reusable heat pack.

Zippo benzin is the leader in fluids. In the Peacock it ignites better than no-name fluids.
I agree, I've encountered pretty shitty fluids on the market.

Just looked at a Zippo hand warmer today, package says it was made in Taiwan.
Thank you from Germany. Well done. Like both the Whitby & the Peacock. The Zippo is way too cheesy.
Thanks for your review.

@@Helsinkipop thank you for your reply ^^
Nice comparison. How long will the Zippo and Peacock run on a full fuel load?
Would be interesting to test it. The Peacock instruction booklet promises 24hrs and Zippo 12hrs.

Sure! Don't light it with the element wet - it will torch up like a Carabinieri cockade!

Heh, probably yes
Ok thanks

+Helsinkipop If that's truly the case, that saddens me.
Zippo hand warmers at REI say made in China. The lighters are still USA made
Peacock handwarmers predate the zipoo ones, the zippos are knockoffs of the Peacock design which have been around since 1923.
Bonjour so which one is the best ?
Peacock is my favourite
Ok merci 👍
i think the zippo one is made in the usa

@@cuchanu Perhaps, but Zippo hand warmers are made in China/Taiwan.
